Further to Facebook posts it has become apparent that the forthcoming Haunebu II will be cancelled due to objections from within the German establishment. From my own point of view I've only ever regarded this particular project as Sci-Fi/fantasy. To conflate it with Nazi achievement is (in my opinion) utter balderdash, asinine and beyond political correctness, but your mileage may vary.

Newslink

I'm not the sort that would normally stir foment and revolution, but you could always go out and buy the Squadron or Pegasus kits and turn them into best sellers.

It is possible that extolling and being seen to exaggerate the achievements of the National Socialists may be viewed with some trepidation in Germany. Whilst I like the new instructions, the absence the history blurb is something I thought was backward step.

I'm pretty certain other Luft '46 kits I've made had earlier instructions which did detail the speculative nature of the subjects.

I get that, what I don't get is that there's nothing on the box art that would suggest such a thing. Is the film Iron sky banned in Germany? All that Revell have done is market a product that ties in with a film (that was actually black comedy).

No, it's typical German.

The summer hole and some people look around for "news".
The kit was annouced from 1th of January and was shown at the Toy Fair, nothings happen.
Now all buyers got a treasure.

I've noticed that the various box art for this kit does not display a swastika...just the German barred cross...the swastika being banned in Europe... :hmm:

This kit would seem to fit into the speculative "Luft '46" genre....

As far as I am aware the swastica is only banned in Germany,it is against the law to give a nazi salute.

There are several countries where displaying a swastika/hakenkreuz is banned, this Wiki article sheds some light on it.

Nigel, This is an interesting topic. if you look at model boxart over the past 30+ years, German subjects are often displayed w/o the swastika. It may or may not be included in the decal sheet. Some kits have a dismembered swastika that can be reconstituted by the modeler. Others provide a diamond shape,, :hmm: IMO the 'art' of scale modeling is better served with historical accuracy...I'm understanding that certain markets ban the crooked cross being depicted while others allow it. In any event, decals areavailable on the after market.

Cheers,

ggc

From what I understand the main problem is with the blurb on the side of the box which contains information making it sound like the Haunebu actually existed. If Revell had made it clear that is only fantasy like their other Luft '46 kits there may not have been so much trouble.

Incidentally, having read the wiki article I did find it ironic that it is legal to display Nazi symbols in Israel.

Those allied bombers look like B-36's on the Haunebu II's box art.....looks like they were depicting a "LUFT" 46" scenario....

Now some UFO fans have speculated that this craft WAS ALSO some sort of time machine so the world may be still waiting for its reappearance.....

Get a Grip Cheers,

I've got ne on my watch list, currently bidding is at 142.00 with four hours to go before the auction ends. It should go comfortably over the 200.00 mark.
