Background

Mmmm, whilst the kit comes titled as a generic U S Touring Bike, some may recognise more than a passing resemblance to a certain iconic US bike manufacturers Electra Glide and it does appear to be a re-release of a Revell USA 1970’s kit H-1224 without the companies name appearing on the fuel tank decal.

The Kit

Being 1:8 scale the 163 parts come in a sizable end opening box, the parts come on two large gates of grey styrene with two of chromed parts, two gates of clear parts plus vinyl tyres and cable to be cut to size for brake leads etc.

Given the age of some of the moulds (1967 originally as the 1970 release used parts from an earlier release) there is very little flash on both the parts and the tree, however there are some considerable ejector pin marks, whilst these are restricted to the inner surfaces some may interfere with the fit of the parts and may need attention.

The instructions recommend using Revell Contacta Special adhesive for the chrome parts, this is a type of contact adhesive that you apply to both surfaces, leave to cure for a few minutes than join them together. I have no experience of this glue but will try it out to see how it performs. My thoughts at the moment are to remove the chrome from mating surfaces and use Tamiya Extra Thin, The joins can be sanded and polished and then covered using a Molotow liquid chrome pen.

I know some would remove the chrome completely and then spay them using metallic lacquer paint, however these are not paints that I personally use but will most likely produce the best results.

The Plastic

The tyre inners will need careful removing and the cables cut to length as detailed in the instructions.

Decals

Although there are not that many decals, given the scale, the sheet is quite sizable with several number plates provided for various Countries and States, Colour saturation appears to be good and everything is perfectly aligned.

Instructions

The construction is detailed through the 62 build stages contained in the full colour instructions. Paint callouts are for Revell colours only however given the nature of the model I’m sure anything goes.

Conclusions

As you will see in the pictures above some of the parts will require a little clean up, but noting too demanding. This will be a sizable model measuring some 30.2cm when built. The either built as a pristine factory fresh example or costumed and weathered I’m sure it will stand out on your shelf.

Skill level is quoted as 5, although I think any modeller with modest experience would be able to producer a presentable model from what’s in the box. A kit I can recommend. Build review will follow.

Many thanks to Revell for the review sample.
