If you are joining a RPG read all of the story if possible. I know, reading 80 pages is not fun so it might be better to ask one or so of the players in that RPG for a summary of what has happened thus far.

When creating a RPG, it is best to make a sign up/OOC thread separate from the actual RPG so as to decrease clutter in the thread.

Try to keep OOC remarks to a minimum in the RPG thread, unless there is nowhere else to post it.

If someone or a group of people who are in charge of the story line posts a specific character sheet then that is what you use.

If you don't like a RPG don't join it! No one on here is going to make you do it.

In most cases, the GM's (game master or person(s) in charge of RPG) word is final.

If the GM(s) say that you cannot use a character in their RPG, you can't. Likewise with weapons, magic, etc.

Try to be as realistic and true to the RPG's reality as you possibly can. Example: You have a rifle in 1123 England in a Medieval RPG. They didn't have those back then and you shouldn't unless the RPG involves something like time travel where it is possible for the character to have futuristic weapons.

If you have anything to add, feel free to post it here.
Also if there is a problem feel free to PM or email me about it.

Roleplay Basics

Roleplay (RP), or In Character (IC) activities are a wonderful part of the plaza, where you take on the role of someone living in Middle-earth. You can live out adventures and everyday life just like the characters in LOTR! The key to this "let's pretend" game is to imagine as vividly as possible what it's like to be in Middle-earth, and then write it as if you were there.

To roleplay, you

1. Read the top post of a roleplay thread to learn what it's about and what the rules are
2. read the posts of other members, which describe what they're doing and tell you what's "happening"
3. write a post in which your character reacts to, and adds to, the scene.

It's best if you include both actions (what your character is doing) and words (what your character says). For example:

Tarnil yanked the thorn from her foot with a curse. "All right, all right, I was just leaving!" she growled, glaring accusingly into the nearest trees.

The more details you include, the more others can build on your post and make the scene come alive.

Useful Things To Know

* RPGs, roleplay threads with stories, usually have GMs -- Game Masters -- to move the plot forward and referee the action. Pay attention to GM instructions and be sure to react/respond to GM posts describing the scene, action, or unexpected events!

* Some RPGs will specify in the top post that OOC (out-of-character) comments are forbidden or limited, or ask you to white them out. Do this by selecting "white" from the font color menu. This is to help maintain the feel and flow of the story. Other RPGs may have a link in the top post to an OOC thread where players may ask questions or plan actions together.

* Most players write character names in bold to help others see when they've been addressed. Some players write action in italics and speech in regular type, or vice versa. These are habits rather than rules!

* "Don't Godmode" -- you'll see this in many threads. To "Godmode" means to make your character better than everyone else, miraculously escaping injuries in combat (which is unfair), or having an unrealistic or "extra-special" background, abilities, or possessions. Inexperienced members often show off magic swords, boast of being related to Legolas/Arwen/Aragorn, or use other gimmicks hoping to look "cool", but you'll actually have better luck finding friends by being friendly!

* Say it, don't just think it: if you only describe your character's thoughts, no one will be able to respond. Similarly, remember that characters cannot read minds!

* The more you know about your character, Tolkien's world, Elves (if you're playing one), and the story or scene you're playing in, the more vivid you'll be able to make your roleplay.

THE GOLDEN RULE OF ROLEPLAY:
Interact with others as you want them to interact with you.

That means: read, pay attention to, and respond to other people's posts; talk to people! If you're feeling shy, don't worry; this is common. Just look for other shy characters who seem to be hoping someone will talk to them. They'll be thrilled if you notice them! Or just join in a conversation -- our members don't bite!

0_0 I thought making your character better then everyone else was PowerPlaying and that GodModing was controlling other peoples characters- like you're God... *brain short-circuits*

Power Playing, or PPing, is controlling another person's charrie.

Like, if Azra had a charrie named Bob and I had a charrie named Joe and we were RPing, an example of if I was PPing would be-

*My post*
Joe picked up Bob and threw him off of a cliff.

Azra wouldn't have a chance to have Bob save himself before poor Bob got thrown off of the cliff.

*my post*
"Hello Bob!" Joe greeted. "Hello Joe!" Bob replied

In this post, I am blatantly controlling Azra's charrie (Bob), so it's PPing.

Edit: Is this a little more clear, Azra?
