Silly Boy

Very disappointing that he let himself down haven't seen the incident but from all I've heard he hasn't got anything to complain about. I'm sure he feels dissapointed with himsel and just given all the self righteous supporter of other clubs to bring out the "Told you he's a thug" comments again.

It's covered in the ITV highlights. Flats said he was lucky to still be on the pitch as the ref missed it.
Personally... I don't think he made contact but I could be wrong. Although it probably was intentional, it could be argued he just fell and tucked his arm underneath him as he went down.
I can see it going either way.
If he is found guilty then he only has himself to blame by putting himself in that position regardless of intent.
Had a quick nose of Tigs and Wuss forums yesterday and the predicted vitriol is in evidence.
I'm still on the fence on this one.
Maybe I am one-eyed and rose-tinted.
I think we should expect a ban though...

Nah, I've just seen the incident. For me there is definately intent. Very lucky it didn't connect. I expect a ban and wouldn't be suprised if it was a lengthy one. I'm afraid Mr Clark has let himself and the club down. Real pity.

I was very willing to give CC the benefit of the doubt with the Hawkins incident I honestly didn't see any intent there and I thought Woody fell on Calum which caused the incident. Almost certainly could be accused of wearing tinted specs myself. However in this case I just can't see anyway that it wasn't premeditated.

OK, just watched the BT highlights and they had a few different angles which do seem to imply it was intentional.
Still don't think it was as dangerous as being made out elsewhere (shattered eye-socket etc.) as it's more of a push than a swinging elbow.
Not sure if the fact he missed matters.

Expecting mid-range ban now.

3 weeks off. Could have been worse.

Agree, it could have been a lot worse.
Interesting verdict in that it was not premeditated but was deliberate - i.e. heat of the moment type thing, I assume?

So head down Calum, take the three weeks to get your body healed ready for tough second half of the season.
And when he comes back, needs to be whiter than white.

led with an elbow..........meh hardly that bad, supposed to be an aggressive game, though he should not have done that. If he'd thrown a punch would he have got three weeks? not sure.

probably fair. biggest issue is not whether hes going to be able to control himself, issue is we havent got a first choice 7 for falcons and Leicester!!

He's been pretty decent when he has played not outstanding but he definitely has the passion I like to see and he isn't afraid to put his head in the wrong place. Not sure how good an 8 he is though.

Yeah, really not sure about him at 8, much rather have Gibson there.
Nutter had a couple of really good games last season but then wasn't given a chance again.
He's now got three weeks to really put a stake in the ground.

In case anyone hasn't seen it: http://www.rugbydump.com/2016/11/5471/calum-clark-banned-for-3-weeks-for-elbow-on-donncha-ocallaghan

Absolutely no defending this. Contact is minimal but looks blatantly intentional from what I can see. The only possible mitigating factor is if it were in retaliation to an earlier incident, but considering it was judged as not pre-meditated I'm not sure that's the case. Disappointed tbh, thought he'd managed to shake off his reputation.

If a player lin possession of the ball fends off a tackler with a forearm is that treated the same with three weeks off?
Apparantly its different.
Any of you remember the days when rugby refs would have lectured Clark and sent off the other guy.on the basis that the other guy would have done something to prompt retalliation.
So Calum must be careful now as opposition teams will now try to convince refs that misdemeanors have happened

I see your point, but in my eyes there's a difference between fending off an oncoming tackler (though I do think the straight arm-open hand rule should be enforced more), and dropping an elbow on a prone, unsuspecting opponent. I understand rugby is supposed to be an aggressive game but I'm not a big fan of the romanticised view of the good old days when you could get away with assaulting the opposition - I'm just not sure that is relevant or necessary in the modern game.

The simple fact is that its needless foul play. Loosing a player or conceding a penalty can loose a game. You pick your battles and this was just unneeded.
