regardless of whether hes got a 13 or a 12 on his back id expect him to hit some hard angles, especially in that centre partnership, he also spent alot of the game in the inside centre slot. |

Just picking up on what you said re Luther it seemed to me he spent a not inconsiderable amount of time int the 12 channel on Friday. Not sure if this was because he was trying to cover for Hutch or for some other reason. |

We have had one obvious failing this season. We cant score trys. Our attack is just awful. I cant talk about Friday as i have not seen it but lets deal with trends rather than one offs. Our best players this season have been Groom, Harry, Picamoles and Wood (IMO). Getting the ball in the hands of the backs has not been our main issue. We have had plenty of ball accross most of the matches but what we do with it has been close to nothing. Its not even like we have had bad hands. We just run out of ideas after we chuck it to the end of the line. We know these players can score. We have seen it (once upon a time) but we cant find any space and if we do none seems to be backing them up as its so unexpected. We need a decent backs coach. Thats not our only problem thats for sure, our scrum and Maul are not what we need them to be. Obviously you have to make a decision between being a mobile pack and a strong one but you can find a balance where you win your own ball well, keep the oppo honest and build a platform, Thats what Saracens do. We seem to have gone too far away from what wins matches. We are mediocre in the scrum, poor in the maul and our forwards dont do much carrying. We have a good lineout but thats about it. That is all down to West. We hve one guy in charge of all aspects of forwards play. I think we need another forwards coach to look at maul/scrum someone with more recent knowledge who can add something. I have said it a lot of times but we have a lot of dead wood at saints. players who have been here a while and who are being paid a rate based on past glories (all guess work but pretty likely to be true) People who were internationals who also won the league with us who were some of the best player 2/3 years ago who are likely to be taking up a lot of cap. The question will be who do we hang on to and who to let go. We will find out at the end of season i think, that could make a big difference. Most of our back are not as good as they once were. Now you can sometimes trade speed for experience and still be a top player but not a whole set of backs. Except north we have an aged first XV and those below them have had so little game time they are just not ready. The youngsters need to be given time to get better, you cant get 50 caps worth of experience without playing 50 times ;-) . Granted w eshould hav edone this sooner and thats Jims fault. But to defend him a bit our young players seem to just about break through and then get injured time and again. Still. he should not keep buying in poor journeymen when we do have backup available in the academy. Jim needed to be braver years ago and remember that Young English players built his coaching career. Sticking with that formula might have avoided us getting to this point. Our internationals are still class. Picamoles, North, Wood, T, Dickson, Courts... those are 6 very good players. You would hope that they could help put things right but unfortunately only one is a back. I know we have the Samoans to return and i love them dearly but they are not the same class and i dont think they can win us matches any more. Thats all i have for now. I will probably not get to the Saints for a few weeks as i have so much on. The lure of FG is not there at the moment but perhaps a good away performance might change my mind. |

I think we all agree we need an attack coach. Once that happens, give Jim the rest of the season to turn things around... If things don't improve, then, two seasons out of the play-offs is not acceptable. |

I agree Happy, but where can we find a good attack coach at this time of the year, and how soon can they make a difference? |

Eddie's difference with England as almost immediate. Yes he hasn't done anything major with attach yet but his overall impact was almost immediate. I'd expect the same from a good attack coach. Coaches can be bought out of contract, same as players. There is also a whole SH who are now out of season. There must be someone, somewhere. We are an established club with great facilities and fans, we'd be attractive to coaches. |

Ssssh Flanker! Don't mention that name... In fairness though, he did a decent job at Edinburgh. In other news... Does anyone know why we haven't heard anything about Brookes ban? Edited by happyclapper, Nov 29 2016, 06:39 PM.

Two weeks: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/38152471 Green got a week for retaliation which seems just about fair in my book. |

Thanks Dan! And as much as I don't think either deserved a ban, I'm glad he got one too as it really annoyed me on the day that he hadn't! Good job we have Hill to cover. |

I know Mac will disagree but I prefer Hill to Brookes. Brookes may technically be a better prop but I think Hill offers far more and doesn't look nakered after 20 minutes. |

My guess is this will be another one of these rules that will be ignored by the time the 6nations comes round. Then we will all feel hard done to. I can unserstand the change from a safety viewpoint but it will make clearing out a bit tougher |

I'll go with you Elmer. I am on the Hill side as opposed to Brookes. Brookes looks like the old fashioned prop who would get up from one scrum and walk to the next one |

Brookes may look like that but last season he put in couple of MOTM performances. His play around the park, when fit, is like an extra back row. And his running with ball is exceptional. Unfortunately, he just looks a bit off the pace. I'd take Brookes over Hill when both playing to their potential. I've not really seen enough of Hill to form a full opinion, but good enough for Eddie is good enough for me. |

Sorry HC. Dhould have added "on current form" to my preference. Brookes just looks off the pace and unfit so far this season. Too much timber maybe? |
