HC, i agree that at their best GP, Foden and Luther would make most teams, i also agree that they are not playing at their best but i dont think its all down to coaching. Luther just cant seem to see a gap and his hands have been less secure than at his best. He never seems to just run straight when needed (that could well be coaching) and his offloads are few and desperate when he should pass either earlier or take it to ground and secure the ball. George still keeps doing the right things but for some reason the understanding he used to have with Ken that made them such a good combo has gone. He throws so many bad passes to Ken that I feel sorry for the younger Pisi some times. Foden lost more speed after his last long injury. He has great technique and is a defensive rock and to be fair his kicking is improving but even when he does run it he cant get any penetration any more and that i am afraid is due to lack of speed. On the plus side, Ken Pisi seems to be developing his all round game and is looking better than ever, If only those inside him could give him more space (same for George North TBH). His kicking game is now excelent, his kicks ahead often give him a great chance to either gain territory or contest the ball, his defense is stronger than ever and his strength in the tackle is much improved. We need to sort out 12/13 and 15. Now that could be a combination of Luther at 13 (where he looks better for sure) Hutch and Harry at 12 (both need a lot more game time to fully develop and Collins at 15. But having 3 youngsters in those possitions will take time to bed in, and even then we wont know if they have what it takes to be top players until we try,. I just with that one of the 3 old heads were playing near their best. We can carry 2 players back to form or develop two young guys but 3 is just too much. Oh and on a side note, What are we going to do about JJ and Olver? If both want to play 10 and we keep Myler then how can we keep both happy? We really need a new backs/attack coach. |

I really do think it's coaching. Myler, as picked out by the pundits, is way too deep which gives them nothing to run on to. You can play deep if you're Australia and your backs can create something from nothing. Ours can't so they need to be attacking the gain line hard. Luther did it once against Falcons and it was great to watch. If we do that more, we will create more, which improves confidence and then all of a sardine the offloads work, the Pisi brothers are back on the same wavelength and the opposition are worried about all of our back line giving Air Ben more space to attack in. Speaking of Air Ben - do you think he'd benefit from some coaching from the lady who worked with Mike Brown and helped him improve his speed of feet and acceleration? Certainly worked for Brown. I agree, KP is looking very good these days. I'd argue he could walk into most prem teams as well. Re JJ and Olver, I think it's hard. We must have signed JJ as our Myler replacement so he needs to be given a run at 10. I understand him at 12 at the moment but once Harry is back we need to give JJ some game time. Olver is young and on the evidence we've seen so far is not quite there. He may develop but if not he needs to decide, does he drop down a level to get game time and see if he does improve or does he take his lot in life as third choice at Saints? |

Some sense being talked on the forum nearly, gave up reading it,is an attack coach going to make that much difference to the older players it was actualy catching and passing that was the problem.Thought the scrum went reasonable against there reserve props.Nutters missed a lot of tacklers for an open side we are deceiving ourselves about how good the not so young reserves are if your not pushing at 22,23 then you are not good enough.Need new players and only the best of the reserves keeping.Forwards not to bad just need tweeking and dead wood going. |

I'm afraid that this season the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off as it is not going to be needed. |

Good players and leaders would sort this mess out, ala the England squad at the 2007 WC. If we havent got leaders out on the pitch how do the coaches expect anyone to carry out their instructions or adapt when plan A doesnt work. Poor recruitment/selection. |

I think we do have leaders in the squad it's just that they're all either away on international or injured. Hartley, Day, Wood, Clark, Picamoles, Dickson and Foden are all leaders I would say. Although jury still out for me on Foden given recent performances. |

5 leaders in the forwards and 1 1/2 in the backs says it all. We need another strong leader at least in the backs. A world class Center would do the trick. We have said that for a while though... |

very frustrating at the minute. I personally believe we have world class centre in the making, who was one of our best players last year. but unfortunately he is currently injured. he is not yet perfect but he does offer us more then we currently have. plus JJ coming in off a long lay off was never going to be the instant answer, it may take him a while to get back to match sharpness. I dont think that player recruitment solves our issues for me its a performance issue not a personnel issue. I do not believe that an attack coach is needed to improve the skill levels of the players, the attack coach is required to install a pattern/structure of play in our attacking line. much like what we had during the winning year. we have an element of experience in the back line, u only have to watch us play for 5 mins to know that smyler is pulling the strings verbally. i dont think leadership is an issue, (other then the major issue that we have lost a significant factor in our success when hartley stepped down as captain) for me the issue is the structure of our attack or lack of structure to be more accurate. |

Think I'd agree with all of that Mac. I wouldn't object to a world class player or two though if they came along... |

I guess my concern is that we dont have an Attack coach and we dont seem to have a skills, backs or defense coach either. Now i dont think those all have to be separate people but who is dealing with all those aspects? I know Dickins and Digger are covering and I am sure they will be great coaches in the future but my point is (if i have one) that we will have to find one or more people to cover all these roles. Perhaps we need 2 coaches. |

Dickins is our official defence coach i believe and was last season, we have one of the best defences in the league so i'd say hes doing quite well. digger in his own words i believe is an academy coach, skills coach, helps the back three and generally picks up cones. I think hopley does alot of lineout work. we need an out and out attack coach no doubt, but also someone who has the character to take control of the attack and not simply imput what has been our attack for years |

What Mac says! We are definitely singing from the same hymn sheet today Mac! Dickens is our defence coach and doing a fine job of it. He's standing in for attack coach while we look for a new one... |

Good to know, thanks for the information. So we still need attack/backs/skills ? Sounds like a job for one very talented coach. I have to say our Defense is very good and to know the mastermind of that is still here makes me feel more comfortable. It must however conflict to some degree with his stand in roll of attack coach, it must be hard to juggle the needs of a team to open up in attack but stay tight in defense. |
