There's 2 issues here. Firstly, the player taking North out in the air. The rules are bonkers - the punishment should not be based on the outcome, but the initial act. Probably not the best analogy - but armed robbers dont get let off if they dont get the cash.

The 2nd issue is North's welfare.

BT Sport say the medic had all the angles, plus the incident was on the big screen. Saints say they didnt have the angles.

Someone is not telling the whole truth and I sincerely hope its not Saints. Any wrongdoing on our part could/should have massive implications.

I want to see North out on the playing field, no question, but I dont want to see him stumbling around trying to remember his name in 10 years. Whilst I dont want a game where players are wrapped in cotton wool, player welfare takes priority over everything else.

I kind of agree Bedford!
However, I think regardless of outcome, it was the correct result. It was a clumsy challenge more than anything else, certainly not malicious. The problem is, judging on intent is subjective whereas judging on outcome is objective. The outcome way may get it wrong occasionally but at least you can judge it based on measurable criteria!!
I've finally caught up with ITV4 highlights and I think Flats gets it spot on. If you haven't seen it, go to ITV Hub and watch. Perfect analysis and refers to own experience of people thinking he was sparko when he was just lying still fearful of neck damage.

set to return on Friday

Would suggest no concussion issues. I hope that's the case. Also mentions that the report on the investigation will be made public tomorrow.

I'll reserve judgement until I read the report.

I agree HC, but it was a very quick return should he have been concussed.

Not hopeful of a good result tomorrow. Just hope the sanctions aren't too bad

Judging on outcome also has its floors. You might have to wait 10 minutes to know the full extent of an injury before taking any action against the offender?
Intentional or not the Leicester player took North out when North was high in the air. Any player who has not yet understood that you cannot do that is a bit thick, added to which he made no attempt to guide North safely to the ground as is required.

I do wonder if players are targeting North because of his ease at getting knocked out.. I hope it's not true though

Strange how a "dangerous" tackle that caused a player to fall on his neck risking potential paralysis is not as harshly treated as accidentally catching a mans head risking concussion is a six week ban..............makes sense.............

Couldn't agree more on the word 'accidentally' not many people agreed with me post match when I said that..

The rules are just all based around outcome and not the action itself. Which may I add is ridiculous. In my opinion taking a player out in the air is one of the worst fouls you see in rugby and yet is not policed correctly accept when it's England Apparantly..
Also the verdict is out. Saints have no sanction for the north incident. Got to say very relieved and slightly surprised..

And no sanction for fielding and under strength team. So two bits of good news there.

With regards the various bans, and I am in no way justifying them here, just putting across the counter views. Dylan went in with a swinging arm. Regardless of where he meant to hit, if he didn't swing the arm, damage would not have been done.
The Tiggers winger turned round as the ball bounced over his head to see a fully in-flight Welsh winger in his face. He did the only natural thing and grabbed him.
I think the main difference between the two is intent.

I am not defending it, just putting across how it may have been viewed by the powers that be.

Very happy and releaved on both counts. Didn't really see how ERC would be able to say much about a understrength team but I was concerned what the outcome on North would be.

Does this mean he didn't have a concussion? I haven't seen any report saying that he did.

The report basically said Northampton did everything right and with the evidence given by George that he laid still due to worrying about his neck that all HIA protocols were followed. However, they also said that given his history he should not have been sent back out to play. They have made several recommendations on how HIA should be conducted going forwards.
