Pat Lam: Bristol appoint Connacht boss from next season on three-year contract - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/38207754.

Good luck to him in Bristol. Wonder if he'll be able to work the same magic as he did for Connacht.

I imagine so. I think Robinson is a great coach but not a DoR. He is a dour man and the first thing the interim chap said he wanted to do was put the fun back into training and get a smile back on the players faces. I think this has shown in the improvements in performance even though they're still not getting a win.

From what I saw of the feature at Connacht on Rugby Tonight, Pat has formed a great club culture, the players enjoy it and work hard for the team. They're a team, there are no superstars. I think it's a great signing for Bristol and if they do go down, it's a blessing in disguise as it gives him the opportunity to get rid of expensive, old, dead-weight and get in the players he wants, playing the style he wants without the pressure of survival in the premiership.

The facilities at Ashton Gate are very good and the money Lansdowne has is huge. He wants to build a sporting hub in Bristol that includes football (mens and womens), rugby (mens and womens), basketball and others, can't remember them all.

Great move for Pat and great signing for Bristol.

For us, I still think Jim deserves the opportunity to turn it around this season. As long as we're top 6 and recruitment is good for next year, give him one more season. Outside top 6 or lack of ambition in the summer for transfers and Jim needs to go. All this is dependent on getting an excellent attack coach in and marked improvement in performance this season.

According to Irish press Lam was in talks with us prior to this being announced. Not sure for what sort of position, but nice to see we're a less appealing prospect than the club who are most likely going to be relegated ;)

Well there is no vacancy here at the moment for DoR.
So it would have been a choice of attack coach here or DoR at Bristol. I know what I would take...
And I'm sure Bristol have deeper pockets than we do for coaching staff.
