http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/38519739 Good honest view from Day, Rugby is changing massively and not imo for the better. I'm not sure the game functions if an accidental knock to the head decides the game. |

I agree with Daisy's concerns re bringing it in mid-season. I agree it should be thought about and players educated if they are to bring it in. Personally, I am not sure what the solution is. When I was taught to tackle it was all round the thighs, roll backwards, now it's all man and ball, choke tackle etc. If you're coaching that, you'll get accidents. So I agree that making anything above a certain line is a penalty and enforcing it more. Not yellow cards are the way forwards. |

for me the simply issue is they are talking as if the game is played in a vacuum or in theory with no other influences its absurd. its just not possible to go 80 mins without someone have some form of contact to the head if world rugby want to stop that completely then lets call it quits. I understand World rugby want to make all the noise they can so they are not a target for a serious lawsuit like the NFL, its a very easy defence. you cant sue us for concussion cause contact with the head is outside the laws of the game. but u cant have it that an accidental knock to the head decides the game, renders the game pointless. I mean your just as likely to cop one of the head when tackling, you have two men running at each other neither knowing what the other is going to do, accidents will happen. how often do u see a played going in low for a tackle only for the attacking player to side step and catch the tacklers head with his knee (ala Luther v sarries this year). Is side stepping before your tackled going to be banned to prevent accidental contact with the head? the people making these rules have no idea. the sport has become more and more pathetic over the last few years and at times a laughing stock. half the time the attacking player is wanting to get quick ball and will therefore being going to ground before they are even tackled, no one runs in to contact bolt upright. so someones running at u full tilt, you prepare to tackle them, last second they lower their body and your tackle which is aimed at the torso seconds before now catches their head (a common occurrence), youre off the pitch and your team has virtually lost the game...........like i said if thats the case lets call it a day as the sport is bust. its impossible to prepare your body to tackle a 20 stone man then at the last second have to adjust to go lower etc The game is decided by men in suits who haven't played the game or if they have they haven't in the current climate, the likes of day should be involved in the laws of the game as clearly the men who are haven't got a clue. Its just like the likes of Stuart Barnes commentating, he still thinks the game is the same as when he played, has no understanding that the players are now athletes, some weigh 25 stone and some run 100m in 10s, and some run it in 11s but weigh 20 stone!. the game cannot be governed in a board room they are asking players to do things that are simply not possible. I have no problem with punishing deliberate contact with the head in a tougher way, but accidental? How do you know whos fault it was? Some players will spend half the match rolling on the floor grabbing there head. And making changes mid season? Thats just silly. You need to do the education before you bring in the punishment. |

"And making changes mid season? " Change being applied worldwide so that the laws are the same in all countries. I guess this time of year has been selected as being prior to the start of the season in the Southern hemisphere. |

I'm sure it has Sarge. But... Surely you pass the law to start at the beginning of each new season? Unless they have one eye on The Lions tour and want it consistent by then.... |

The only possible excuse for not waiting for the start of the new NH season to introduce the changes here is to keep it simple for the internationals especially the lions. To me it is logical to play the new rules at the start of each hemispheres season and let them fall into line naturally. So introduce them in the SH this year and the NH next year. Any internationals played between SH and NH are played under the new laws otherwise internationals between teams from the same Hemisphere played under the current seasons laws. I would rxprct any teams in the NH to be adapting the play style this season anyway knowing the laws are changing in the next season reduce the sanctuin to a pen for the remainder of the season if necessary at least it would avoid the game ruining stream of cards.
