I'm guessing he wanted assurances over appearances and the club couldn't give it.
He's effectively third choice behind Alex and Campese and he probably wants more game time.

Speaking of Campese, where is he?

fairly sure Campese has been injured,

I think Ethan is a better player anyway, for me this is terrible news!! letting local lad who's an academy product who is more then capable of playing in the prem go to a rival is not good.

Its all starting to unravel a bit.

I would do a lot to keep him. But he might put game time ahead of money.

Maybe this clarifies my wishlist for players HC

rumours of this have been about for a while but I don't like to post heresay and rumours. I'd heard this a little while ago hence my requirement of a Loosehead for recruitment.

I share BM's disappointment at this I always thought he has the potential to be better than his brother, but he isn't getting the game time he needs so I understand why he would want to move.

Unfortunately I don't think this is the last loss we will see before the end of the season.

I'm disappointed as rumour had it he had the potential to be better than Alex.
Unfortunately, he's never had the game time and therefore hasn't kicked on.
You can't blame him for wanting to move on.

If more players are potentially off, does this hint at a bigger issue?
Not just fans being annoyed at players they like leaving, but players wanting to leave due to culture etc.

For now, I can understand why both players have gone. So I suppose it depends on who else is off...

You always loose a few you want to keep. The hope is to recruit most you think are good enough.

I think Ethan is the best we have after Alex. The coaches disagreed so he was 3rd choice.
He will come back to bite us...

It this not a fundamental issue we have that players below 1st choice are not be given an opportunity! there is enough games in a season to rotate the squad and develop players.

The likes of Harrison would not have developed into what he is now had it not been for injury, had he not had the chance no doubt he'd have been off to. The talent is there!! back it!!!!

I know jim's philosophy is go with what he thinks is the best team every week and see where we end up at the end of the season. Ok that's all well and good but the modern game is a squad sport and we need to spread it about. give others a chance to develop and show their capabilities.

We are losing a very promising local academy product cause hes not getting enough game time!!!!!

Im going to go and find that dark room mentioned by onward in another post "in jim we trust, in jim we trust, in jim we trust, in jim we trust"

I think I agree with you Mac.
Not too sure it applies to Ethan but let's look at Campese. Other than when Alex has been injured, how many starts has he had?
How can he improve etc. if he's not getting game time?
I am still convinced he was bought as a replacement for Corbs but he's never been given the opportunity.
I hope Estelles gets a run or at least an even spread of games as he's showing real improvement.

Campese was taken off injured in 1 of the autumn internationals, looked like a bad shoulder injury.

Not sure when his contract is up, but he would have been my choice to leave and for us to keep Ethan.

Asked in my other post, if this was an indication of a bigger issue.

Hopefully a refreshed squad will be the start of a re-building programme and 10 more years of success.

Not sure you can necessarily read into it. If he's not getting regular rugby good luck to him if he makes the Wuss first team.

Shame to loose Ethan.
The next Wanderers game is in April so how do you keep these guys interested and fired up
if they have no hope of being named in the 1st team match day squad?
Hope Jamie Gibson doesnt leave now...

Gibson Still in contract for another season.

Good for him!! Go to wuss to get some game time.
Come back in two years a better player and fight your brother for that starting birth.

In the mean time we can go get the probs we need.

Welcome to the darkened room Mac. Least I presume it is you as of course we dont let light in for fear of seeing the future!
Seriously I would hope and expect that Jim (who will be here next season as he is too expensive to say goodbye to) and Westie (is his coaching stuck in the past?) have already sussed out who wants to fight for the shirt and is worth retaining for next season.
In a change of routine Jim needs to get out there and sign a revitalised squad. I hope he doesnt wait until the start of next season before announcing any replacements not only because of the impact on season ticket sales but to rekindle a feeling in the club that it is moving forward again.
Other clubs now more successful than us are already announcing signings creating interest and excitement for their fans. With a couple of notable exceptions Jim's recruitment policy seems to be sign them and give them a couple of years away from the first team. If they are not good enough to quickly fit in then you have signed the wrong person.
A side bet: Tigs will find a DOR before we get round to finding an attack coach even though we have had months start.
By the way Mac I think I heard Jim across the room so lets encourage him to get out there and sign some quality who are not injury prone. Lets start with the front five. We constantly bleat on about monster packs (especially French) demolishing our plucky lads. What is stopping us beefing up our own pack with a bit of grizzled experience from South Africa or Argentina. Then with a decent No 9 we get the ball out to a revitaised back line who are inspired by our new attack coach. GN gets the ball in space on the wing, scores a record number of tries. Entertaining for fans winning rugby. Simple game really.(just have to sign a few players who dont have to qualify for England).
By the way Mac there is a small door from this room into a further room. Dimly lit it may be but it is called the optimist room.
We are on the way to recovery.
The door out of this room goes into full light where everyone is singing and dancing and happy again.
Other clubs will follow this model....... but by then we will have moved on.
Have to go now as I am being asked to go into another room where the walls are soft

Funny, I noted the only scrum we won against the head (pretty much the only scrum we won all match) on Saturday was when Ethen came on to replace Alex.

Yeah Elma, that told you!!! (what happened to friendly????)

But I agree, I thought our second front row was much better than theirs. The scrums were stable on their put in, when it was 8 v 8, and we even managed to get a shove once or twice as well as the one against the head. It was less stable on our ball when it was 7 v 8.

Unfriendly HC? I was just pointing out that imo Chesty assertion that Hill and Waller Jnr always go backwards isn't the case. Maybe it did come across rude, sorry.

Anyway Chesty, their replacement front row were not exactly a weak outfit and had already shoved our 1st choice around a few times so I don't believe that my reply was a poor one. For me when Ethan has come on for Alex he has done a fine job of replacing him in the scrum although I agree that Hill has struggled. Finding a good young loosehead to replace beef will be tough and imo you are wrong in your belief that he isn't good enough.

Sorry Elms, I was referring to Chesty comment to you being unfriendly!
No replies are good or poor in my opinion as they are all just opinion!
So i meant Chesty was being unfriendly!

I agree with everything you've said Elms! :-)

Sadly i think so. But perhaps he will be back one day.

The lad needs lots of game time. I just hope for him Worcester dont go down as he is too good for the championship. I hope he has a clause in his contract.

I'm not sure it does.
Yes he's rumoured to be better than Alex but he's never shown that it games.
He's third choice behind Alex and Campese.
He's 24.
I'd say he wants to play regularly and he has decided to move on.
I wouldn't call this wasted, he's not quite good enough to get a game at Saints.

now is definitely the time for him to start getting more game time, props take longer to develop, they need the years on the paddock, in the gym and at the diner table to develop. (playing Hill at 21 is absurd when hes clearly not got the build to play tight head) this should have been his year to really get some more game time.
