So, last season (I believe) the IRB sent down a directive that the feed must be straight and hookers must hook.
We've now had 2 games out of 3 (yet to watch Montpelier) where the opposition have made no attempt to hook. None!
I thought the point of this was to get the ball to the back of the scrum and back in play quickly again.
With a by-product of speeding up the game as once the ball is at the 8's feat the ref can call "Use it".

Despite the TMO pointing out the feeding today, Tigs still never put the ball in straight and Thacker did not strike once.
Hooking the ball is a skill and one that takes practice.

My point of this is, are we being naive in following the letter of the law, as our hookers always hook, and should we revert to an 8 man push until the laws are enforced. Or do we continue to take the morale high-ground knowing will have an advantage if the laws are applied.

Personally, I want to see us continue to hook and hope the refs start to apply the laws correctly.

If I could change one thing in our beloved game, it would be this!!!
As Mrs Clapper will attest, it gets me screaming mad every week!

Its almost as annoying as lazy runners and the constant holding of players off the ball.

Tried to like your post 3 times hc but it doesn't work maybe I should create 2 new logins :)

I though one of the main reasons for the changes to the engagemental calls was to enable a stable scrum and allow a straight put in.

Both teams yesterday not just Tigs, were feeding however leicester were basically putting it into their 2nd row.

It's not a hard law to enforce so just bloody do it!

Wibble we are one of the worst for holding players back imo.

I am not so one eyed as to disagree Elma... some rules i just think should be enforced even if we suffer.

Be nice to have 2 extra refs to watch for offsides too... perhaps let them run allong the side of the pitch with flags. Surely then this would get policed properly? Maybe call them linesmen.....

Lazy runners and pulling off the ball don't annoy me so much, but I agree they are annoying.
Back when I played, if the scrum-half fed the ball, my opposite hooker got a proper smack on his shins. It's the reason I always wore shin pads, so they couldn't retaliate.

I agree Elms, it really is one of the easiest laws to enforce! Was it straight down the middle? Yes/No. Not hard is it?!?!!?

Wibble, I think you'll find they're call touch judges!!! ;) ;) ;) ;)
But yes, they should be helping more!!

Whatever we call them, perhaps if they got involved once in a while we might see a better game :-)

Apart from when it's Barnes of the chap who got involved at Welford a few seasons back, Goodlife?
They can just let us know the ball is out.

Ideally, each match would have 3 Nigel Owens on the pitch and one in the truck.
I'd take a JP as well.
