Me too! Just looking at the signings already, and other rumours, I'm not sure we have enough room in the cap for a decent 10. |

I tend to agree, having grayson involved at 18 or whatever he is seems too soon. I expect we will sign someone, if rumour is true they went after Biggar then i'd definitely expect someone. |

18 is fine if he's good enough. Wilkinson, Farrell, Ford all played at 18 for their respective clubs and Wilko even played for England. If he's good enough, he's old enough. |

If the reports are true we tried to sign Biggar and the WRU blocked it, so it seems we are after a world class 10, with Myler as back up. Unless Grayson is as good as Ford/Farrell/Harry were at 19 then we need to recruit big in a few positions. Off loading fringe players deemed not good enough gives us more scope to do this. Quality not quantity, a half empty stadium is not going to pay anyones wages |

as much as I agree, I just think we haven't seen anywhere near enough of him to be considering him 2nd choice out and out ten, with arry also covering. If this was the case he should have been given time in the lv etc. hes not even played much wands rugby. We've also constantly said and gone well this lad is coming though and then the club have not given them the time etc and gone and signed someone else. I think if the Biggar rumour is true then we can expect someone, maybe Slade makes sense if they are looking at that calibre of player. |

Not convinced by the Myler / Grayson proposal I would like to see a quality experienced 10 signed with Myler coming on in situations similar to the way that Sarries used Hodgson. Grayson will not be ready yet. It would be a real shame now we are assembling some more quality in the backs to waste it by not having an inspirational 10 to set it alight. Inspirational 10 to Harry to Horne to North. Now you are talking and how much could Hrry learn in that sandwich? Mac, Rugby Rumours suggests that Adam Ashley Cooper is finishing in France and looking for a dollar, maybe Japan. Reckon he could do a job for us on the right or has he slowed a bit. So if we had Biggar, Harry, Horne, AAC and North, wow! That would ensure season ticket sales Edited by Onward, Feb 8 2017, 10:44 AM.

Onward - it's not a proposal, just saying I wouldn't be surprised if that was the direction we went in. Personally I think Myler is to young to put out to pasture like Hodgson just yet but probably not too far off it, maybe one more full season left in him. We know that someone with potential as competition doesn't work, which means the only option is a massive pay check for an established international. As we've just got Horne, who I am guessing is one of our marquee signings. Let's assume either Louis or George is the other, then we have used both marquees and therefore not sure how we'd afford a top class 10. Hence why I would not be surprised if we stuck with what we have now. Having said all of that, we were rumoured to be £400k under the cap, so maybe there is money spend. And with some players off, maybe even more. £400k would get us a Horne or a top class 10. I like the idea of Colin Slade. But it was mentioned the Slade we're after was Henry. I like Henry a lot, but he's definitely a 12 who can cover 10 in my opinion. Not sure what that would do to the squad with Harry being everyone's preference at 12... |

AAC is/was a class player. I dont think pace would be the issue at all from what ive seen of him at Bordeaux, would definitely be a good option to cover the back three, but for me his best rugby was played at 13, defensively hes one of the best there, but we've just signed horne, i dont see us even looking at him, think its confirmed hes off to japan anyway. I'd definitely take Henry Slade as a 10, with smyler combo, for me he would definitely be able to develop there and he sometimes lacks the defensive ability to be in the centres. hes played a fair bit at 13 as well however we dont need a creative centre we need a strike runner like horne to balance it out with mallinder. for me that sounds a tidy back line for the next fews in mind years, Reinach slade north arry horne pisi foden (though maybe foden could rejuvenate his game on the wing and we bring in a top 15) having slade and harry both on the pivot would be a great thing to see, my only concern is who would kick, kickers win games. re the money, remember the cap goes up by a fair bit at the end of this season. i definitely think we were short of the cap cause we went for someone such as jake ball and missed out rather then money issues, (we've just signed horne, cant be too strapped for cash) |

If rumours about Hartley heading off come to fruition then we'll have considerably more room in the cap, though I highly doubt we could replace him with another hooker of his quality. I would be very surprised to see him go though considering he is still clearly first choice for Eddie Jones and I think he's rubbed enough people up the wrong way in the AP to have to head abroad.

No idea where those rumours are coming from but I just can't see it. As you said, I can't see him going anywhere in AP. And if he goes abroad he loses his England spot. Only reason I can see him going is as follows: 1) He's been assured he'll be an exception and he'll maintain captaincy. 2) He's been told after this season he's no longer captain and that they'll be building for 2019 with a new captain and new hooker. No idea why option 2 would happen though when he will only be 33 at the next world cup and no where near past his best. And I must be one of the few people in England who struggles to see why you'd pick George over Dylan... |

Can't see him going anywhere. (Apart from the fact that he seldom plays for the Saints that is. ). George does seem the overall better player now in my opinion. |

I'm with Happy here. Dont see George as a better player. He's a very good impact player and as the game opens up he gets the plaudits. The last few times I've seen him play he has been good, but not exceptional. Dylan is now much fitter now and is much more involved around the park. Cant see Dylan going anywhere, I think the rumours came about after Dallaglio said he looked like he wasnt interested after the sending off - and of course nobody could be as good an England captain as me. In fairness I added the last bit, but I do think Dallaglio has an axe to grind. |

Dallaglio probably wants Launchbury or Brand Haskell as captain. He is so Wasps biased... I do like him though, he speaks his mind! |

Rumours about Dylan started before the red about Dylan and Nobby not being on good terms. Similar issues to the Matfield ones but it's all heresay. We will find out in time I guess. As for George, well to be honest I don't know enough about 2's to have any sort of useful input but he looks good enough to be Dyls replacement to me. On Saturday Dylan was incredibly rusty looking and his major strength in the line out was not evident. I know that's probably thanks to his ban resulting in lack of game time but I don't think he will stay captain much longer after the 6 nations. When/if England lose their 1st game people will call for his head but while we are winning he'll stay captain. Edited by ElmaFudd, Feb 9 2017, 02:06 PM.

I think he'll still be England captain at the next world cup and he's not going anywhere from saints. George is ok, bit more mobile. Personally I see Taylor going past him before too long he's a very good prospect. Re money in salary cap, several players are leaving and its going up by a considerable amount. Loads of room |

I cant see Dylan going anywhere. He owes the club too much. He will stay England captain as long as he is fit and ban free. That will change only when England have a poor series of results. He is young enough to get another world cup shot. If England win this 6nations he may well Captain the Lions ... assuming Gatland has the balls. |

I agree with Wibble and Mac. As a former Hooker, what George brings is impact around the park. He carries really well and breaks the gain line regularly. His lineout is not as good as Dylan's and he is no where near as good in the scrum, that comes with age and experience. And also an ability it actually hook. Dylan strikes the ball really well, George is probably a bit too big to ever be a great striker of the ball. Dylan also puts in a shift around the park, a bit like Woody, always at the bottom of rucks, doing the dirty work. Will never win plaudits but teams need those players as well big carriers. So Dylan better at first phase and the dirty work, George better at carrying would be my summary. It's also about balance - while we have The Vunipolas, Itoje and Brand Haskell do we need another ball carrier or someone to do the dirty work. And it's about leaders. As much as people praise Farrells leadership, Wilko also had leadership but could he "lead" a side. Not really. Captains need a certain mentality. No one in world rugby thought John Smit was better than Bismark Du Plesis but Smith has over 100 caps as he was a great leader. |

Good points. Well if they did manage to get Biggar, with all his shuffling and twitching when taking the kicks, there'd be plenty of time to get down to the gents and back when Horne scores all those tries! Edited by flanker, Feb 9 2017, 01:43 PM.

This was said about Clark though Wibble. Let's be honest the only thing any player owes his club is the do his best on the field and try to represent himself as a good role model for the club. Dylan has definitely done the former and despite popular belief from non Saints supporters in general he has done the latter. If Dylan moves on then thanks and good luck to him if he stays then great (I hope he does). But club loyalty only goes so far. If (and it is a big if) he'said no longer happy here he should go in the long term it would be best for both parties. |

I agree to a certain extent. However difference between Clark and Dylan is Dylan is first choice. Clark was having to fight for his place. Dylan is on top whack, Clark probably isn't. So Clark may have been incentivised by more money and a starting place. |

The two are comparable but not Equal. Dylan has been backed by the club time and time again, backed to be first choice after every spell off and given the chance to prove to the world that not only is he a great player but also a great leader. I would not expect him to take a massive pay cut or be happy sitting on the bench but as long as our offer is competitive you would expect him to want to carry on the job of getting the club out of the poo. It is however a job and he might not feel the same. |
