OKIE DOKIE . . . 1) So what are the latest developments on your side of the game? 2) What do you think is going to be your biggest obstacle here? 3) Do you consider yourself "locked in" to one style of playing, or are you just taking it as it comes and adjusting your strategy whenever needed? |

1) So what are the latest developments on your side of the game? Well, seeing the entire Old Katorga go all Anti-Mike was actually a good thing for me. Was glad to see that Ace came to me saying everything that had been floated around by Mike, and that none of his old tribe was on board with it. And...was awfully surprised that James was considering voting me out. What happened to ALWAYS LOYAL? I voted against Colby because I thought it was a forgone conclusion that he was gone...so voted with the majority. James was considering throwing in with Mike...MIKE...to vote me out (even when the numbers WEREN'T there) because he was told by someone (I'm trying to discover who) that I said he was an idiot and I no longer had his back. Either way...this bodes not well for my relationship with James. 2) What do you think is going to be your biggest obstacle here? I think Old Katorga would vote out James before me...so the next biggest obstacle is making it further than Frank and Coach. Even if I aligned with them...AND pulled in James...that would still make us 4-4 against most of Old Katorga. So...need to just hope in my private messages to them that I'm coming off as more rational than Frank is. Also, need to make sure I have a good impression on the Mountain in case of a merge or shuffle. And to kind of pull these two thoughts together, may start to chat with Ace, Dave, Hunter and Jamie about shuffle strategies and who we want to pull in from the women's side. 3) Do you consider yourself "locked in" to one style of playing, or are you just taking it as it comes and adjusting your strategy whenever needed? Definitely the latter. On Old Baikal, felt kind of puppetmastery. Now...very much realize my continued existence in this game relies on the mercy of Old Katorga. So I'm playing nice (and I do like them). I even managed (I think) to win over Dave, who I felt was going to be my biggest opponent (because our old tribe wrote his name down). Maybe it's "cheating" a little, but the moment he said he saw and liked the new Harry Potter movie, I took the opportunity to cease gameplay chatter and focus on that. Kind of like making myself seem human to my captors, if this was a kidnapping.

An Analysis of Mike's Final Words, by Shane "Not Austin" Powers "First of all, thank you to Brobst for the time you put into this game. I cannot imagine hosting one half as big as this." A more than fair statement. Very gracious to thank the host. As for "hosting one half as big as this," I guess that would mean a normal game of Survivor? But very thankful. Grade: A"I am just a bit upset at the way I played..." Nice to hear him say that. He was never mean to my face, though he seemed quite vitriolic toward Ace. So is he talking about the scrambling? The throwing people under the bus? The lack of presence? Hard to tell...but his fingers are pointing inwardly, which is where they should be, in my opinion. Unless specifics were edited out by Brobst. Grade: B "...and I may have put some at risk, so I am sorry if I did. I am also sorry if my actions hurt the chances of anyone winning this game." Very intriguing and very vague. Who and what is he referencing? James, for trying to get him to vote along with him? Me, for trying to throw me under the bus? Frank...? Very hard to interpret, but seems well-meaning. Grade: B- "I know I take these games too personal, it's a fault of mine." Same here...but when I start to take it personally, I reach out to the network of people that I've connected with in the game. I got no sense he was taking anything personally. Or taking anything anyway. But you weren't the only person taking things personally and reacting in such a manner. Seems that was a hallmark of the clusterfuck that was Old Baikal. Grade: C+ "I tried my best to do the best I could, but after the game started, I ended up with commitments every week on Tues and Sunday that were at the exact time of the challenges and I sacrificed those commitments as much as I could." Understood. But others did a good job of communicating their outside commitments to folks in the game, while maintaining anonymity. And Mike communicated this at the start...but stopped doing so, so nobody knew what was up with him. I considered him a close ally at the beginning, but had no idea where he stood after a week or two. Grade: B- "I honestly do not care who wins this game at this point..." Grade: F "...since at the end of my run I was alone." From what I understand, Mike brought this upon himself. None of Old Katorga wanted to work with him, because he was "acting like a douche" and he stopped communicating with the Old Baikal tribe, except to throw me under the bus. I legitimately thought he voted for Frank, but after Thursday night, expressed this solely as an opinion, and one I wasn't 100% convinced of. I even expressed this to Mike, that I wasn't 100% convinced that he was guilty of it (in fact, I'm about 99% certain it was Colby), but following that he cut ties with me. The three messages I received where he blasted me for ignoring his PMs (all of which I received while trying to formulate a response to Dave, so I didn't know I was receiving any of them) didn't help matters. Grade: D+ "Good luck to all of you who read this far into my final words, and thank you again to Brett for the commitment you have for this and other games." Back to being gracious. I guess that's a good thing. Grade: B God Bless, "Mike" Interesting choice of sign-off. Should I have proposed an alliance based on religious ideals? Probably not, I'm guessing. Grade: B+ Overall assessment: Not nearly as bitter/angry as I had expected, and much more resigned than I had anticipated. But not realizing he brought a lot of this upon himself by not communicating openly or frequently. I know some of this is due to real world issues, but to a veteran of the game (and Mike acted like he had played before), you have to know that this is a major component going in. Final Grade: B- |
