SFG - A Divided Lylat; In a time of civil war, who will you choose to fight for?

Several years have passed since the Apparoids layed waste to the Lylat System. Many of the settlements established on the different planets were decimated. After the Apparoids were defeated by the combined efforts of Star Fox and Star Wolf, a reconstruction effort was started, and has been mostly successful these past years. Although, the problem isn't rebuilding the galaxy, but maintaining order.

Due to the weakened state the Cornerian government was forced into from the Apparoid attacks, several rebel factions emerge to challenge Corneria's unified rule of the galaxy. The Lylat System is pushed into a time of civil unrest, the threat of war looming over the galaxy like an ominous shadow. This time, there is no threat of ultimate destruction by one single entity. This time, Lylat's sworn enemy is itself.

An organized group of rebels rose up, attempting to separate the planets of Lylat from one unified rule, and make them all independant. This group, known as the Tyrfang Liberation Force (or TLF) mainly occupy the jungles of Sauria; the harsh, desert ruins of Katina; and the arid, seemingly unlivable landscape of Titania. They've also got insurgents in place among the other planets, just waiting for the proper time to strike. Their most prominent weapons resemble that of Russian design.

The Cornerian Restoration Coalition (or CRC) was formed as a response to the planets breaking away from Corneria's rule. During these years of rebuilding the galaxy, they have managed to secure Corneria, Papetoon, and Fichina. Their forces are mostly made of military veterans, and use weaponry that resemble American design.

Seeing that now would be the best time to act, the Skorvald Family of nobles finally made themselves known to Lylat. They seemed to effortlessly take control over the planets Venom, Macbeth, and Eladard. They challenge the rule of Corneria, and criticize the ideals of the TLF, believing that Lylat should be unified under their family crest. They are a highly industrialized and technologically advanced group, and were able to create clean living societies on planets thought unable to sustain life. They accomplished this by doing things such as filtering Venom and Eladard's atmosphere, making the planets livable and clearing up the previous toxic haze. Their forces use weapons that resemble German, Austrian, and Italian design.

Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf currently remain unaffiliated with these super-powers, and resume to work as mercenaries for hire, preferring to not be involved in struggles over power. However, they do not hesitate to rise when they are called to battle, and still carry their historical rivalry with each other.

The Lylat system is currently in a time of civil war, and no one side of the conflict seems to have the upper hand. Will you choose to join with the CRC, and restore Corneria's democratic rule of Lylat? Will you fight alongside the TLF, and work for a galaxy whose planets are independent from eachother? Will you work under the crest of the Skorvald Family, and bring Lylat to order under one banner? Or will you fight for your own goals? No matter your decision, the time is now for this story to unfold.

Not too far from the orbit of Katina, Tenko's space fighter, the Frostblight, was lazily cruising the vast inky void of space.

Having known about the state of the galaxy as of recent, he decided that it was best that he simply chose to stay out of everyone's affairs, doing small little here and there missions to earn some pocket change. Hey, a fox had to live somehow.

As of now, he was simply roaming around, having no apparent goal or mission. He was, truthfully, incredibly bored, but for his own safety's sake, perhaps this was a good thing. Things appeared quiet around here, perhaps too quiet...

"I'm back..."
Shory treaded through the rubble of a building that used to be his childhood home. The former 2-story house was once part of a city that used to be one of Katina's few thriving settlements. He sifted through the dust and debris, seeming to be searching for something as a light desert breeze picked up, carrying small amounts of sand and dust with it. Unable to find a certain item he was looking for, he sighed to himself, before clearing away a small bit of debris to sit on the ground.

"When's dinner, mom," he said to himself as he closes his eyes. A memory of his childhood played through his mind as if it was being broadcast on a television screen. He had just come inside from his usual wanderings around the city, and the inviting smell of his mother's cooking wafted into his nostrils. The scent would cause him to smile, and he would rush into the kitchen. Just as he was about to leap into his mother's arms, he woke up from his daydream, once again realizing the harsh reality of it all.

Sure, his parents were still alive, and were living very well on Corneria. It wasn't exactly the thought of his parents alone that caused his blank face to fade into a frown. Nostalgia's bitter feelings strangled any happiness he had at that moment, and only caused him to further reminisce about his childhood.

After a half an hour of rememberance, he finally stood up. He brushed the dust off of his pants and walked through the threshold that used to be part of the front door, kicking up sand as he made his way towards The Outrunner. The space craft's smooth hull reflected Lylat's (The sun of the Lylat system) light off of the edges as if it were a sharpened sword. He sat on the nose of his ship, looking into the sky as Lylat set over a dusty horizon.

Tenko leaned back in his pilot seat and folded his arms behind his head, reflecting his recent past.

He happened to be on Corneria when the attacks first started. At first, the people were confused, as to why the Lylat union would suddenly turn on its capital. Most viewed it as a mistake, until the more damaging strikes happened.

Blocks and blocks of the city were destroyed, burned to the ground. Families died out, became lost, separated, or worse. Roads and transportation were wrecked. The skies were dark with the towering clouds of black smoke from the destroyed buildings.

It was only then did the planet decide to start evacuation efforts. Several shuttles and warships took to the skies. It was too late for most of the shuttles, as they would be quickly shot down by interceptors if they so much as try to leave the planet's orbit. Some got lucky and slipped past them, but as for most of them, they never made it out.

Tenko happened to sneak aboard one of the warships. One of the carriers in fact. He holed up in one of its cargo decks until he knew he was well away from the planet's surface. Once he waited long enough, he slipped out into the main decks, passing off as some of the evacuees. They weren't many, since most of the capacity is compromised of essential crew (warships weren't designed to hold mass amounts of evacuees after all), but he was able to blend in.

He mainly wandered the ships halls, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible until he happened upon the hangar bays. There he slipped by some of the crew who opened the door to launch interceptors themselves to repel any incoming attacks. He remained hidden until all the crew inside were either taken off or off of the decks.

He found himself a good looking ship and hopped inside. Knowing nothing about controlling a space craft, he simply read the instruments, fiddled with switches and hoping for the best. He pressed the large "START ENGINE" button and pulled the throttle forward. Boosting the main thrusters, he shot out into the open void of space, ripping away the foundation that kept the fighter in place. Praying to the gods that he wouldn't get caught, he sped on forward, with no planned direction.

Eventually he wound up here around Katina. He pondered going to the planet's surface, to see if there was anything to do.

Todd was shooting pool in the bar...he watched the news, and saw the current crises throughout the Lylat System unfold...He was about to order a beer at the bar, when Lola contacted him "Todd, I'm finished with my audition. I need you to pick me up, and we gotta get home. I'll explain later as to why!" said Lola. "Okay babe, thanks." Todd said. He cancelled his order, and then picked up Lola. She and Todd exchanged a kiss, and they headed to their home, McCloud Hall.

"Things are getting bad....the whole Lylat System.." said Todd. "That's why my audition was, apparently 'cancelled'...they decided not to have the performance, due to the circumstances." said Lola. "I'm sorry. That sucks." said Todd. "I wish they could have called us before they decided on this, and not made us wait fifteen minutes after coming down there to the theatre." said Lola. "Expect the unexpected." Todd teased. "Aw, shaddup!" said Lola, giggling.

"So, what was it you were gonna explain to me later?" asked Todd. "That was it. But I bet your cousin will call us to action soon." said Lola. "I'm sure." said Todd. "So...do you support things the way they were, or do you support the TLF policies? Or do you think we should be under the Skorvald Family?" asked Lola. "Well, we shouldn't be under the Skovald Family. I don't trust them." said Todd. "Me neither." said Lola. "The whole idea of every planet being independently governed is inefficient. It sounds appealing, but it may lead to one of those 'go nowhere fast' situations when there's a galaxy wide situation. But Sauria is independently governed, they can do okay on their own, for the most part...I dunno. I could support the TLF or the old Lylat Federation. Whichever pays more, or whichever Fox wants." said Todd. "Good point about Sauria." said Lola.

"Maybe...we should aid the Lylat Federation. No having to exchange currency rates, no 'patchwork' regarding different planets...it's better if the old Lylat federation Rules the Galaxy, they're not that bad." said Lola. "I'm game. I'll bet the rest of the Star Fox team would agree with you." said Todd. "What if they don't, hypothetically?" asked Lola. "We would still support the Old Lylat Federation, to hell with my cousin and his team, hypothetically." said Todd.

He slowly climbs into the open cockpit of The Outrunner, taking a hesitant seat inside the star-fighter. He enters the ignition code into the console, and watches as the hatch slowly comes down, locking into place around him. He takes one last look at the ruined city infront of him through the tinted visor, strapping the saftey harness around himself as the ship starts to ascend. Once it reaches a height of 10ft above the ground, he gently pushes the throttle forward, slightly pulling back on the joystick as the thrusters roar to life, propelling him forward as the wings' vanes angle to pitch him upward. As he exits the atmosphere, and gravity starts to lose its grip on the ship, he reaches for a small lever on the panel. He turns it down two settings, a smooth whir sounds through the cockpit as the wings fold back.

He relaxes his grip on the joystick as he scans his left paw over the navigational screen towards the left side of the panel. After typing something into the keyboard that appears on the touchscreen, a flightpath appears, the destination being the Cornerian capital. "Speaking of mom and dad, let's pay them a visit..."

-Plot Post-
One of the mounted televisions in the bar suddenly cuts from its normal broadcasting. A Beagle reporter stands in the middle of the screen, a news flash beaming behind her as she delivers this next announcement:

"Just recently, we received word that a group of Skorvald Operatives had liberated the hostages being held by a small gang of criminals in a research facility located on a larger asteroid of the Meteo System. The men and women who were held hostage have been safely returned to their families. When we attempted to ask the Skorvald Soldiers for an interview, they avoided the spotlight, saying that it 'was their sworn duty to the Lylat system to protect the innocent'. After those words, they quickly boarded their transport cruiser and disappeared into hyperspace."

The television returned to its normal broadcasting, and the bar again returned to its normal hustle and bustle.

Tenko opened his eyes just in time to see a small ship rise from the planet's surface and speed off into the void of space.

Curious, (as this is the only sign of life he has encountered in a while), he decided to follow it, keeping back just far enough to see the very tips of its exhaust, as to not let himself be seen.

Todd and Lola arrived at home, McCloud Hall. "What do we do now?" asked Todd. "You set the security system, lock this lace down, WE bide our time, wait for your cousin to call..." said Lola. Todd did just that, then they sat together on the couch, holding hands as they watched the ocean from their living room..

Shory decides to not engage the hyper-boosters, and sets the ship up for autopilot towards Corneria. Since Corneria and Katina are relatively close, he decides to not engage hyperdrive. He keeps himself entertained by slowly rolling the ship every now and then, checking the radar to make sure he's alone. Nothing appears to be within range, so he relaxes just a bit. Ever since Lylat split into three factions, space travel had always been a bit more dangerous. That wasn't excactly something he minded, though. He somewhat wanted something to happen, as was per his reckless nature.

As the time passed by, he would turn his head to look at the star that the Lylat System got it's name from. The star burned a bright, strong blue color, and accompanied the star Solar in warming up both Katina and Corneria. Despite Fichina's relative closeness to Solar, the magnetic fields generated by the nebulas Sector Y and Sector X absorbed and reflected most of Solar's warming light, which keeps Fichina in its frozen state.

Tenko still kept on the ship's tail, daring not to get within range.

Suddenly his arm knocked a switch, that happened to send his ship rocketing toward the other ship.

He managed to switch it back off, but he hoped to dear god that it didn't bring him into range.

He levels the ship out as a small blip pings on his radar once, then disappears. He quickly turns his head back, looking through the rear of the visor for any signs of followers. Nothing seemed to be there, just stars and space. However, one of the stars seemed to be... following him?

At first, he merely dismissed it as a figment of imagination, and more cautiously continued on towards Corneria. Although, as he would constantly look back to view his "stalker star", he began to consider the fact that it might not be a star at all. Not to mention, the radar wouldn't pick up a star's signal. He eases off on the thrusters just a bit, slowing down just to see if he can get his radar in range of the object that seems to be following him...

Tenko was sure that he wasn't spotted until he noticed that he could see the other ship again. It got closer and closer until he was almost up against it. Trying to be casual, he simply maneuvered his ship around the other one, and keeping on moving forward. He wondered if it was armed, or worse a pirate ship.

(bah, I'm sorry for these piss-poor responses)

He tilts his head at the passing ship, then pushed the throttle forward. He catches up to the other vessel, flying side-by-side with it for a moment before leap-frog passing it, purposely trying to get the attention of the pilot. It had been a while since he was able to have any harmless fun, and what would alittle drag-race on the way to Corneria do? The only problem was provoking the other pilot into action.

He again slowed down, almost causing the other ship to rear-end his, before pulling towards the right and again flying side-by-side. A slight smirk parts the right side of his muzzle as he rolls the ship towards the left, then flies overtop the other vessle. The two ships's cockpit visors amost brush against each other as he tries to look through the tinted material to see the other pilot.

Tenko nearly sent his ship out of control when he realized the other ship was messing with him. He nearly hit it on multiple occasions and when it was upside down over him he looked up at it with a quizzical look.
