Incomprehensible, the wisest would never be able to grasp the true reach of the force, because its reach had no boundaries. Within her, the force manifested as sheer power, finesse reserved for others, the sheer brute displays of use of the force, coupled with the mastery of lightsaber combat made the Barabel Master, a warrior. Sholla Mae, represented the warrior element of the Jedi, just as her former Master represented the strategist, and of course the young Khess who brought each element together, to represent the ideal that all Jedi should strive to be alike. Often in her tenure as Battlemaster, she had trained those who were not to inclined to the battle arts. It frustrated her: Jedi underestimating the necessity of being able to defend and if the situation called for it, attack. In these years of the Jedi, it was ever more vital. The Sith crawling out, just as the Jedi believed them gone, to carry out their duty, a Jedi had to have the combat training that she as the instructor would provide. She had once told a young Padawan this : "Some enemies will not to desire to bandy words, Padawan. It is the reality that some negotiations can only be concluded in combat. A Jedi must be prepared and allow for all eventualities, or you will fail, and others will suffer," she had been harsh but made her point clear. It was her vocation as a teacher, to send her students out into the Galaxy aware of the true reality of what awaited them. Idealism, it was all well and good. But survival in the big bad galaxy called for realism. Survival was the root of all that she sought to impart, on the future of the Jedi Order. She was a withering root, her students the strong young boughs spreading out, they were the future. She would be the clouds that rained down on them, leaving to them to soak up the knowledge she imparted. Then they also would pass on her teachings to a new generation of Jedi. It was a cycle, the passing down of a torch, of ideals and of belief. The solace that after a long life, she would rest but know that her life's work did not come to mean nothing. Ambivalent about the Padawan she would be taking under her teaching, she stood in quiet contemplation. She knew that her new student already specialised, and not in the art of combat. But she knew not to judge beforehand unwisely. The elderly Master had never been of that sort, preferring to judge on proven merits; rather than to judge on assumptions. Not a muscle moving unnecessarily , perfectly at ease, immaculate cream robes, over a burgundy tunic, she was the image of respectable Jedi Council member, despite her fierce red reptilian eyes, or tough keratin scales that gave her an intimidating appearance. Not entirely a misconception, for she was intimidating due to her blunt nature, so she was matched in nature with her appearance. And so she waited, the passive serenity of experience, keeping her in its embrace of patience. |

Perhaps one of the things that perplexed Kash the most about sentient beings, something he had spent many hours meditating on, was their constant need for conflict and violence. To the Imperial it seemed that, despite all the technology used on a daily basis, people still reverted back to their basic instinct on a far too regular basis to engage in, often avoidable, combat. As a diplomat of the order, Kash had rarely branded his sabre other than the odd occasion when it was an absolute necessity for him to do so in order to survive. And even in those few isolated incidents he showed a great reluctance to do so. So it was no surprise that he was far from over enthusiastic when he discovered he was to report to the current Battlemaster for training. Not wanting to displease anyone on the council however he accepted this opportunity to do something he adored. Learn. And learn from one of the most specialised and experienced teachers in the order. Kash’s usual wander had been replaced with a brisk stride as he made his way towards the training room he had been directed to. Instead of his usual apparel he sported a more appropriate spread of clothing including his dark tunic and a pair of thick, black boots. He made quick work of the journey from his chamber to the training room focused solely on the next few hours. As a diplomat, Kash regarded himself as a well-spoken, persuasive individual, one who could come across as arrogant in retrospect. He knew that if he were to speak much during this session his words would surely find their way back to his true opinions. A possibility he dreaded the outcome of. Instead he would follow the often favoured path of appeasement, attempting to be the model warrior in this case, though his skill with a sabre could well give that away. The sound of chaffing rubber was the first thing to great the Barabel Master as her student made his entrance. Next was the intrigued glare pointed her way by said padawan. This was the first time Kash had seen a bBrabel in person and his expression broadcasted that. His eyes panned down towards the armoured tail of Sholla Mae then up to her cold, beady eyes. He shook his head, remembering where he was for a second. “It is an Honour to train under you Master” Kash ended his sentence with a respectful bow. Fastened firmly to his belt was his pristine light sabre which was almost in perfect condition. He wondered if his weapon would remain in its current state after the naturally armoured Jedi Master found out he was about as much use in a brawl as banther fodder and proceeded to beat his imperial ass all over the flawless marble floor. His lightsaber was the first indication that he was no fighter, if she had not already been aware. It was in near perfect condition, no slight dents or signs of battle damage that provided cosmetic damage and as such meant there was no need to replace the weapon. His entire stance bellowed out to her that his posture was adjusted to pouring over files, rather than straight backed for battle. He wasn't slouching, not in the slightest, his respectful bow had been an elegant gesture. Yet, she knew from years of observation that this she would have a lot of work to do with this Padawan. "There are two kinds of diplomacy, Padawan Bardak, the first kind is diplomacy with words and that is the primary response to resolving troubles," the Barabel paused, red reptilian eyes boring into the green of the young human. "Then in combat may a situation be resolved, however, as you know, a Jedi strives for the first outcome always, but it is nor always possible. In which case those of ilk of this old Barabel resolve in the clashing dance of combat." Sholla Mae was well aware that the Padawan intellectually knew this, but what she hoped to do was make him burn these words into his mind and heart. Sissing softly in amusement. "Bide your tongue you need not, Padawan. To learn a Jedi must ask, insult this one you shall not, for an inquisitive mind - not a crime it is to possess." The low rumble in which she communicated with was fairly kind. For Sholla that was. "But your proficiency with a lightsaber may well be," she teased with a light twitch of her tail appendage. "Nevertheless, you seek not to fight and in which case, I shall teach you to defend, you are aware of Soresu?" She enquired. Sholla although proficient in the forms and practical application of the style recovered through holocrons, did not rely much on the defensive style, but perhaps this Padawan would find his niche in the further training of it. If not, one way or another, he would be competent. |

Kash listened carefully to Sholla speak. His previous face of concern quickly morphed into a light smile. She was clearly wise and experienced, all the attributes a good Master should posses. He was surprised when she began to speak of his attitude towards battle but he should of known that it was going to come up. He carried with him so many hints and signs that he was not a warrior and, for one such as Sholla, spotting his weaknesses would be all too easy. His eyes lit up when the mention of Soresu arrived in the conversation. "I am aware of Soresu Master. The Way of the Mynock, The Resilience Form" Form III was always the form that, if forced into combat, Kash would employ. However he was far from skilled with it showing only a basic understanding of its stances and Maneuvers. Soresu had real synergy with the imperials personality, allowing him to defend himself in combat effectively when the time and need arose. His lack of skill in combat was not due to his lack of knowledge, for the Padawan often read datapads depicting epic duels and techniques where Soresu was successfully used. It was down to his unwillingness to practice and wield his light saber at all cost. Hopefully with the encouragement of the Order's Battlemaster, Kash would gain the confidence needed to stand toe to toe with his enemies if the situation required it. "Where would you like to begin Master?" Kash glanced around the room for a second time, tightening his wrist guard and bracer as he did so. His pristine light saber still hung harmlessly from his belt, waiting for it's chance to emit the dull song it longed to sing. He made the most of these few minuets of calm and chatter as he knew there was to be a long period of frantic battle which could erupt at any second. Edited by Ark, Apr 29 2012, 06:56:27 AM.

As a teacher, there was little achievement in instructing a talented and eager student, not when compared to a reluctant student. As a teacher she would train this Padawan in a style that was relevant to his belief as a Jedi, if he had no desire to raise his weapon against another, then she would teach him to defend. It was the lesser of the two evils of combat. However, Soresu by itself was irresponsible, due to it being solely a defensive form, not an offensive form, and that it relied on tight and energy efficient movements- if fighting an opponent of greater or equal stamina, the outcome would not be beneficial. There in the great fault of a style which when employed by a Master of it was considered invincible - as an experienced and acknowledged Mistress of the Battle arts, Sholla knew otherwise - Soresu was a well rounded form, but for its true effectiveness, the practioner needed to be well versed in a more offensive form. Which was why actually training in the style would wait. She would begin with conditioning training first. All Jedi were physically at a peak, but speed, stamina and mindset neaded for Mastery of Soresu meant that it wasn't mastering the practical forms that posed the most trouble. Reflexes. Although augmented by the force, the reflexes of all Jedi were beyond most species, but Soresu needed even greater honing of reflexes. That made intensive training for the style. So her answer was chosen. "Today we will condition your body, then we shall go out to Coruscant and use the terrain to train you in the tight movements of Soresu, and we shall cover Form I: The Determination Form once more. Soresu even in the hands of the Master is not infalliable. Ataru is the natural answer or Makashi, however, I sense that such styles would be lost on you, young Padawan." Honest words escaped the Barabel, critical eyes analysing what she had been given, who she had been given. "Today you will learn to dodge," Sholla Mae concluded as she prepared to program missile launchers, they would provide if came into contact with, a small harmless shock, "without your lightsaber." She finished. |
