Name: Tyrall Vand
Homeworld: Corellia
Nickname/Alias:
Date of Birth: 6 ABY

Faction: Galactic Federation of Free Alliances
Rank: Fleet Admiral?; Chief of Naval Operations?

Species: Human
Height: 1.8 Meters
Weight: 10st 4lbs (note: need to increase weight)
Hair Color: Gray (previously brown)
Skin Color: Pale
Eye Color: Brown

Appearance: At this point in life, Tyrall's body has began to lose its once great shape. He is, or his body is at least, a mere shadow of it's former self with muscle being replaced with skin and a small amount of fat. The Corellian sports the same facial hair he had done since he first took command of a vessel which comes in the form of a thick gray (but increasingly white) handlebar mustache. His eyebrows match his lip beard perfectly as does his hair which is a little thinner but none the less flows naturally behind him. Tyrall's face is wrinkled and worn as one would expect from a man who's served as long and as hard as himself.

The Admiral chooses not to wear the given uniform instead he wears a dark, sleeveless tunic over a black long sleeved shirt. On his right shoulder he bears the blue of Corellia in the form of a shoulder pad adorned with a golden trimming to show his status. Down his left leg is the yellow piping of his first class bloodstripe earned near the very beginning of his military career. An award he wears with great pride and values above all his other various medals which hang in plain sight along his chest.

Personality: Tyrral, like most Corellians, was once fiery natured and an avid risk taking but with the coming of age and experience he has become less brash, taking time to think before diving into a conflict and such. However he still managed to retain his natural Corellian intrepidity along with a strong sense of pride and compassion for his home world. Time in the military has molded the Corellian into a cold hearted machine making displays of emotion rare on his part although he often feels compassion for others. This is not all bad however as his service to the Federation as an Admiral has given him an extensive knowledge of naval combat, often out maneuvering an enemy with ease.

<--Hoping to expand on personality - political beliefs would be helpful-->

Strengths:

  • Dependable: Tyrall is fiercely loyal to Corellia, the Federation and his long term friends and allies. He trusts only those he deems worthy, but he always always lives up to his end of a deal.
  • Strong Speaker: His many years of experience allows Tyrral to be confident when speaking, sometimes coming across as forceful, even commanding. His skill with words is commendable giving him the ability to rally crowds to his cause or persuade even those with opposite morals to an agreement.

Weaknesses:

  • Stubborn: Tyrall, in his growing age, has become very stubborn and proud often showing itself as more of a hindrance then a help on the political scene. Despite this he has managed to make many allies within the senate through his sheer determination and passion for what he does.
  • Quick to Anger: On the battlefield, he is passionate and loud, barking orders to those under him and expressing every event in an extremely open manner.
  • Overly Commanding/Controlling: When making decisions Tyrral can sometimes come across as impossible and stubborn often not giving others a say especially when lives are involved. This is not because he is selfish or controlling but because he trusts nobody but himself with the lives of others. In his opinion, there is no excuse for the needless loss of lives so prefers that there is only himself to blame if a mistake is made.
  • Very Little Political Knowledge

Education & Training:

Uni & flight school: At age sixteen, Tyrral started at a ROTC program at Corellia University, participating in military drills and classes to give him a minor in military science. Interested in starfighters, he majored in starship engineering, where he learned about astrodynamics, aerospace physiology, and engine design. During the summer, he attended midshipman cruises on a PB-950 patrol boat.

After graduation, he tried out for flight school, undergoing introductory flight screening with an airspeeder. After completing twenty-five hours of instruction of several solo cross-country flights and passing a hands-on exam, he was sent to aerospace pre-indoctrination. There, he learned to operate a military starfighter's weapons, shields, and how to eject in the event of an emergency.

Finally he was sent through primary flight training, where he split more than a hundred hours aloft in a LAF-250, an old starfighter regulated to the proving grounds, and in flight simulators. During this time, he learned to execute simple squadron maneuvers, such as flying in formation, along with some individual techniques for shaking off enemies.

Finally, he went through the advanced strike pipeline, where he received instruction in space combat maneuvering, navigation (including tunnel running down tight obstacle courses), and launching/landing from/on carriers.

Equipment:

HSB-200 Hold-Out Blaster
Comm-Link (handheld, cybernetic, headset, ear-bound?)

Force Powers: N/A

History: Tyrral was born into an average Corellian family in Tyrena. His father was a skilled pilot who served in the Old Republic and later in the Rebel Alliance. During the age of the New Republic, he retired from military service and ran his own private wing of mercenary pilots. His mother stayed at home and devoted her life to her children in which Tyrral was one of two.

He looked up to his father despite his absences and was always overjoyed when he returned home. As a boy, Tyrral gained many of his personality traits from his dad who he saw as his role model and hero. At the age of fourteen his world was crushed when news reached home that his father had died in action in an ambush somewhere in the Deep Core, during the New Republic's attacks on the Imperial holdout of Prakith. It was whispered that he took down countless Imperial TIEs before being simply overwhelmed, biding time for the rest of his squad to flee with their lives. This was how the young boy was to remember his father. A hero always.

The Education system was tough on Tyrral as he struggled to come to terms with the death of his father as well as continuing with his academic studies. Turning almost hermit like, he would go to school without talking to anyone and on this return home march straight into his room where he would remain until he had to leave for school the next day. Surprisingly the teenager graduated successfully with average scores and grades. Tyrral, in his mind, was sure of what he wanted to do next.

Following in his father's heroic footsteps, Tyrral joined the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances where he would quickly learn the ropes and become a proficient pilot. His early military career was spent as an ensign in which he flew with, and eventually became a veteran of the Corellian Red Wings, but never actually got the opportunity to lead the squad which was famed for their daring and highly astrobatic techniques, as his career took an unexpected turn. Sub-Lieutenant Vand would earn a second-class Corellian Bloodstripe for taking on an entire Vong fighter squadron while the rest of his own squadron repaired a stranded medical frigate containing live patients.

After this skirmish, Lieutenant Vand was offered a posting in command of a Vanguard-class gunship, which would involve him leaving the cockpit and entering the bridge. Nonetheless, achieving command of a starship was the pride of any naval officer's career. The Vanguard-class gunship Heroic Intervention, as Tyrral dubbed it, treated him and the rest of his crew kindly in only a handful of battles after the formal cessation of hostilities with rogue Vong, in which Tyrral's superior piloting experience allowed his vessel to out-maneuver his enemies while unleashing their arsenal upon them. His skills as a commander were quickly recognised and after only three minor engagements, Tyrral was awarded the position of Lieutenant Commander and command over a increasingly larger gunship, a DP20 frigate. Conflicts came and went, such as the Swarm War, with Tyrral dealing with smugglers and pirates as he became the rising bright star of the Corellian Navy.

Tyrral was a Commander of the Federation for a little under two months before the Second Galactic Civil War burst into existence. The Corellian fought alongside his fellow brothers at Operation Roundabout, in which he led instigated a mutiny abroad his ship and used the position as executive-officer aboard a squadron command ship to lead a large portion of Corellia's navy to defect to the Fire Worlds. His actions during the battle showed his true allegiance to his planet and, after leaving the Federation, Tyrall joined the Confederation as one of the Captains of the Line representing Corellia.

It was a hard fought war, during which Tyrall would participate in many battles including, and arguably most famously, the battle of Centerpoint Station at the head of a CC-9600. Corellian High Command members oversaw the battle from a bunker on Corellia, and when the ranking Admiral's Strident was destroyed, Captain Vand assumed field command of almost half of the defensive fleet as the unofficial Commodore. It was a crushing defeat for the Corellian with his forces being overwhelmed by the Galactic Federation Second Fleet. During the battle, he noticed a power build-up in the Centerpoint Station. Being at the edge of the battlefield, he manged to escape along with his flagship and only a handful of minor ships, moments before Jedi sabotage resulted in the destruction the station along with a large amount of vessels from each faction.

Hastily promoted to Rear-Admiral in light of the casualties, Tyrall became weary of war, and was relieved when the Confederation finally surrendered ending the Second Galactic Civil War. The Corellian now had two years of uneasy peace to live through during which he transferred to the reserves, forcing Captain Vand to resign his assignment to Admiralty so he could spend more time with his wife and children.

During the Unification Summit, what was left of the Confederation rejoined the Alliance and the Imperial Remnant to once again form the Galactic Federation of Free Alliance. With Corellia rejoining the Confederation, it was mere weeks before Tyrral was offered his old commission back. The Admiralty Board refused to honor his flag commission in the Corellian Defense Fleet, but they agreed not to court-martial him for treason due to the circumstances involved. He took it reluctantly, as bad blood still lingered after the Federation's campaign against his homeworld. Meanwhile, his wife took a position on the Advisory Council as a mediator between the former Confederate worlds and the Federation.

In the years that followed, Tyrral opened up to serving in the centralized Federation Navy as opposed to the sectoral Corellian Defense Fleet. He served in a Fleet Replacement Squadron to refresh his pilot training so he could once again command from the cockpit. Afterward, he took an off-flight tour as a flight instructor at the Galactic City Naval Base on Coruscant, since it was relatively close to home.

Eventually being promoted out of the naval starfighter units once again, he went to serving as an command officer abroad carriers. He served as an executive and commanding officer on both a Defender-class and an Endurance-class, working his way up to command a carrier battlegroup.

<--Still pending the rest of his post-war career-->
