New Jedi Order
  • She had committed his physical description, his name and his current whereabouts to memory. They had a name now, they did not exactly need one for things to work out, but a name was good because a name opened up several avenues of opportunities to gain and maintain the upper hand in this game of predator and prey. Referring to her investigation, it was quite obvious that she was the calculative; unrelenting predator who would lay however many traps it took before she could sink her teeth and claws into her victim…but as she stood there, staring at Kay’lak; ever present of the look on his face and the suggestion in his words…she was beginning to feel like she was the prey…and she knew he wanted to feast on her in every conceivable manner. She could feel such desire radiating off of him and it was still as disconcerting as before, probably more so now that she was in his place. The idea of leaving without so much as a thank you or a goodbye still resided in the forefront of her brain, but there still lay the wonder of if he would allow her to leave of her own accord, and if she did manage to escape – and she could, mind you – would he be foolish in the attempt to come after her and subdue her just so that he could have his way with her? Why not? He seemed monstrously conniving enough to do such a thing. Being the criminal he was and the unprosecuted murderer that he chose to become…she was unsure if he had any limits to his madness.

Arms held behind her back, her eyes fixed on him while being mindful of the young woman on the floor who was still very much under Veko’s control. She thought on the best way to put things…and then she began to wonder why she was even attempting to sugar-coat things for him…he was not the man she once knew. The Veko Kay’lak she once knew was an honourable, loyal and kind man who served loyally as a Knight…the Veko she knew was kind enough not to ask her to indulge in any actions that would go against the tenets of the Code that she took seriously and modelled her way of being after. She liked the Veko she once knew because he was a good man and a good friend to her…but the man who stood before her, the taller, more muscular man with an increased shadow in his eyes and growth of facial hair…she did not know this man and she wished not to know him, nor to share anything with him…so she had no qualms about popping his bubble of hope, she felt no desire to stop and think about leaving without giving him what he wanted. Quite frankly, she was not some girl he could go and pick up and shag for a couple days and nights before being tossed out in the nude. Though, the way he looked at her as he said those annoying things, more or less, showed that he did not perceive her as such…she was a memory for him, a memory turned into fantasy and he wished to live it out while he had the chance; while he was under the belief that he had her.

    But it did not.

“No.” She said with words empty of emotion and eyes empty of any sort of pity or empathy. “We cannot indulge…nor even once, so yes, that will be all I require of you.” She spoke as if she was dealing with a perfect stranger, someone who meant nothing more than the bit of business they shared for that one, brief moment in time. Beyond that, nothing more will happen and she was adamant on making sure that nothing else would come of it. But the least she could do was say thank you for his help. Her indifference toward him was one thing, but she was not so barbaric as to lose her manners completely, especially when she was trying to be the better person in all of this. She was not the same young woman she used to be, after all. There had been a time where she would not have even conceptualized a thought upon receiving the information that she needed for her mission…but she had grown, so had he…but they grew onto different paths and his was one she had no thought about following. “I will like to thank you for the help you have provided to my investigation. It has greatly aided me and my team…unfortunately, there will be not be any sort of reward for your services and I will not hesitate to inform the High Council of your whereabouts…and I do hope they show you no leniency.” Her gaze hardened for a moment as she struggled not to add on, but she found the strength to and fell silent.

Course, she would not even think to influence the other Council members, that would be beneath her and to do so would be unnecessary because the trial would be presided over by the Council of Reconciliation and their word was final. She just hoped that there would be a trail to begin with…she wanted him to be brought to justice, she wanted him to be offered the opportunity to atone and redeem…she wanted him to be reverted back to the man he was and ought to be. Her friend. “Excuse me.” She said as she turned to make her leave.

The stoic response that Veko got in return was, sadly, what he had expected from her. There were few times he could remember when Jedi in the past had been this forgiving with him, especially since he had left the order after killing one of their beloved Masters. He blamed himself for that, his insanity, his confusion, had drawn him to commit such an act. It was not easy to admit, even to himself, but it was because of those moments, those doubts, that he had left the order. Over the years he had questioned his methods, progressively they had gotten darker, more sinister, but all for the benefit of his Militia, for him. Only through power could one create change, and while the time for change was now, he nor the Midnight Militia were ready to facilitate such a change in the galaxy.

So as she offered him a stiff goodbye, the assassin wondered what he should do about her. The woman unconscious nearby was no longer an issue, if more information could be gathere,d then he had nnot found it the first time. Instead, he wondered how he might persuade Mivaal to stay, perhaps rekindle what she thought lost that decade ago in the past. Was it possible that he might persuade her? Maybe, but he knew that without the force, or rather with her strong will, he could not persuade her, erode her will, as easily as those that had come to call before her. It was a difficult situation, but as she left the assassin thought of one thing that might help redeem him in her eyes, one thing that, in a way, would bring her closer to him, to be under his influence. it was a long shot, but perhaps it was worth it.

"I still have Master Tarvas Kay'lak's lightsaber," Veko called after her as he followed her from the room and down the hall. "I will have it sent to the Jedi Temple to be preserved, along with the sabers of those other Jedi that sought to stop me all of those years ago. I need them not, as they only remind me of my own madness and confusion in the days that followed the end of my imprisonment."

"Believe me when I say, however," the assassin continued, his voice darkening somewhat as he loked upon the woman. "That I will not be found if I do not want to be. I mean the Jedi no harm, nor any ill will towards them... and especially not toward you... But I will defend myself, and will not be swayed from my path to create change. It has to happen at some time, Mivvy, and if the Jedi cannot make a difference, then I will. If there is one thing you can trust about with me, then trust in that."
