New Jedi Order
It was one of those days. It was a day off from Jedi training and it was sweltering outside. The pool used for underwater exercises had been opened up for casual use to help cool down. It was a nice treat for sure. Jasmine was dressed modestly in a swimsuit that was acceptable for her cultural standards. It was a full wet suit that only showed her hands, feet, and face (her head covered by a hooded part of the wet suit). Jasmine actually didn’t mind this suit, as the tight hood kept her hair from getting in her face.

After some playtime, the teachers decided to use this opportunity for a bit of exercise. Five lanes were created in the pool with lights that shown on the pool floor. Jasmine waited her turn as the other students swam two laps each. Finally it was her turn, diving into the pool headfirst, Jasmine paced herself carefully. She knew she had two laps to go, so she didn’t want to tire out on the first lap.

After all the students had gone a few times, the teachers were satisfied. As a reward, they allowed the students some more free time. The other students treated Jasmine like she was completely normal, not prying with questions about her culture. Surrounding the pool was an observation platform used to watch the lessons. It also provided a good overhead view of the pool for the underwater exercises. Jasmine had taken part in a few of those exercises, finding them a bit more challenging due to the weightless factor when underwater.

Soon, Jasmine was tired of the water. She pulled herself up out of the water and grabbed her towel off a close bench. Drying her face first, Jasmine then wrapped the towel around her body and headed towards the locker rooms. Once in one of the showers, Jasmine peeled off the swimsuit and placed it on a hook. She then washed her hair and body free of pool water.

A bit later she emerged from the locker rooms, dressed in her robes, a black head covering over her hair. It was time for her to meet one of the instructors for her combat lessons. She was learning different hand-to-hand combat techniques, ones that required a bit more flexibility on her part. She would need to concentrate during this lesson.

In a few days, she would be leaving for Tatooine to visit her parents. She hadn’t seen them in a while. Due to the secretive location of her parents’ home, Jasmine would be leaving very early in the morning and with only one other Jedi, preferably an instructor or her new Master. Jasmine was nervous about being chosen by a new Master, as she still grieved for her previous Master.

When she arrived however, there had been a change in plans. The time of her fighting exercise had been moved to later. Jasmine decided it would be a good time for a walk in the botanical gardens. The gardens had a mix of plants from different planets; some needed special attention while others barely needed water. It was always such a nice place to walk, and at a time like this, they were barely occupied.

As she walked down a path, the scent of the flowering trees and bushes filled the air. The fragrances mixed pleasantly, as that was the whole purpose of the layout. People wouldn’t enjoy plants that had conflicting scents. Jasmine hadn’t visited the gardens recently and had noticed a new maze had been added. Feeling rather adventurous, she decided to enter and see if she could find the center.

New Jedi Order
Myri had found the maze. Unfortunately she didn't know it was there until she had managed to get lost. She left her hand on the right wall and walked slowly through. She was tempted to scream for help but that would have been embarrasing, even for a blind girl. So she resolved to get out of it by herself. That was when she sensed a presence nearby.

Slowly but surely she worked her way in the direction of said presence. Hoping it was the way out. She spoke in her quiet voice, the voice of a young girl unsure of herself.

"Hello? Is someone there?

Jasmine hadn't made it even half way through the maze when she sensed another nearby. That didn't surprise her as there had to be other people to liked mazes besides her. She sensed something different about this close being however. Jasmine continued, making note of which turns she made so as not to get lost.

Soon she came upon the person she had sensed earlier, or rather the person heard her first as she asked if someone was there. Jasmine frowned a bit, she was infront of the girl, and yet she asked if someone was there. A bit confused at first, the realization suddenly hit Jasmine about what had been different about her feel in the Force. The girl had to be blind.

"I am here, my name is Jasmine Hassan. Who might you be?" Jasmine asked politely, planning not to ask if she was blind until the girl thought it proper to say so. It was really none of Jasmine's business and some people were more self conscious than she was about such things.

Jasmine wondered to herself how a blind girl could function as a Jedi, but then realized that you don't need to see to use the Force. The girl was probably much better with her other senses than Jasmine was, as when one sense is compromised, the others strength to compensate.

Myri nearly screamed in excitement at the prospect of getting out of the maze. She collected her thoughts first, she didn't want to speak five million words a minute though and have the other think she was some kind of freaky alien who couldn't speak basic but look human.

"I'm Myri. A initiate. I'm sorry to bother you, but do you think you could help me out of this maze? Its kind of hard to find your way out when you can't see any of the turns."

Myri forced a laugh at the last statement. It was a bad joke. A horrible joke even. She kept her face pointed towards Jasmine. People with sight were always so focused on keeping eye contact, it unnerved some when she spoke without bothering to look it who it was.

Jasmine smiled, even though the girl wouldn’t be able to see it. It was just habit to smile at a joke, even a bad one. The girl admitted that she was lost in the maze, having wandered in. She explained that it was difficult to find her way out when she wasn’t able to see the twists and turns.

Jasmine had to admit to herself that that was true. “Well, I will definitely help you find your way out. However, I find it a bit difficult myself.” Jasmine explained. She was about to add “and I can see” but she thought that would be in bad taste. She didn’t feel comfortable joking with someone she barely knew.

Jasmine kept eye contact with the girl, even though she was blind. It was a habit of Jasmine’s. She was allowed in her culture to hold eye contact with a woman, but it is forbidden to hold eye contact with a man who was not her father. She liked to look at someone in the eyes when she could.

Approaching the girl, Jasmine took a hold of her elbow out of respect. To hold hands with her wasn’t proper in Jasmine’s culture. Besides, she barely knew the girl and didn’t want this meeting to become awkward. Carefully Jasmine began to walk forward, starting their journey though the maze.

“So, if you don’t mind me asking…how is it that you are able to go through your training when you are unable to see?” Jasmine asked hesitantly, turning left and looking at a fork in the path of the maze. One of the paths was the correct one; the other led to a spiraled dead-end, but which one? She knew this was a rather bold question, especially when asked to a stranger. However, one of Jasmine’s vices was her curiosity. If this new person were a man, she would have never asked such a question, or even touched his elbow. Sometimes she couldn’t help her questions.

It was a near trained response for Myri. Plenty of people had asked her the question, most of the time it was younger people. Usually not the older people at the temple.

"Depends, with the force I do a bit okay. I have excellent hearing. With a lightsaber... not so much."

She rubbed her arm where she had received her latest bruise with the training saber.

"I manage though. I doubt I'll ever be any good with the lightsaber though. You know, if you're having trouble getting out of here with eyesight, I don't see much hope in getting out without my eyesight."

It was a tease question, not something Myri normally did. She felt awkward in this situation as it was, maybe the jokes would help lighten up the mood.

Jasmine didn't doubt that the girl had good hearing. She found it fascinating how the body worked when one sense was compromised. The body automatically adapted. Jasmine looked at the recent burns the girl had received from her lightsaber training.

That part had to be difficult, but Jasmine wouldn't say so. "You'll master it soon enough i bet. And then you'll be a force to be reckoned with." Jasmine replied with confidence. She herself had gotten a few burns from her double-bladed lightsaber. It was difficult to learn how to use that weapon properly.

Jasmine gave a laugh at the jest the girl told about her not knowing how well their chances were of getting out of the maze when Jasmine had a hard time doing so and she wasn't blind. "I guess we'll just need to use the Force...or hope that luck will be on our side." Jasmine said with a giggle.

They took a turn and came to a dead end. Jasmine found a bit and thought back. She then back tracked them both and took the second option, which led them deeper into the maze. Now they were about half way through, at least Jasmine hoped they were.

  • Myri was still happy that she was going to get out of this maze, but less confident in her rescuer. They had found a few dead ends and back tracked. She tried to keep up a conversation, hopefully it would distract her from the prospect of being trapped in a maze with another person for the rest of her life.

"I don't think I ever will. I think the lightsaber is for people who can see that they're about to hit themselves. Try taking a right here"

She didn't know why she had said that. Something had just sort of told her to say it. Her gut instinct. So she went with it, her teachers were already telling her to go with her gut instinct. She didn't tell them that most of the time her gut instinct wanted food or to get out of their class though.

Jasmine took a right when Myri had told her too. It led them to the middle of the maze. They were nearly through. Jasmine had to admit she was doing pretty well for her first time in this maze. She considered Myri's words before responding.

The girl had a point. It was easier to use a lightsaber when you could see. "Perhaps it is best to let the Force guide you to your target when lightsaber training. Everyone has a Force signature i suppose. Of course, i am just a Padawan myself." Jasmine said, offering some advice.

She knew how difficult it was to train with a lightsaber, and she could see. She couldn't imagine would it would be like to have to use one and not be able to see. "Maybe your Force sense will strengthen in time and compensate for yourl lack of visual sight." Jasmine offered.

By visual sight, she meant Myri's eyesight of course. But there was also a Force sight Jedi possessed. It was their talent of being able to sense things through the Force. Jasmine was getting better at this maze, using the Force to be able to tell which turns to take and which ones to avoid. She supposed it was meant to serve this purpose, as it seemed to be easier to get through with help from the Force.

Myri could feel the end of the maze coming up. She knew they would be at the center soon. Something in her gut just told her that it was close. She listened to Jasmine hand her advice about how to use the force to guide her. As if she didn't use it already to guide her hands. She wished that she could use the force as well as some of the older Jedi around. Sometimes she felt as if she didn't belong even if she could use the force. She couldn't see, she hit herself constantly with her training saber, and she was horrible at anything she tried no matter how hard she practiced. She kept her mouth shut as she brooded, avoiding her humor to cover up her insecurities.
