Why does this feel familiar?, Mina thought wryly as she settled in a corner seat, a glass of fruit juice in her hand. The Bartender had looked at her as if she was mad, but had obliged in fetching her the drink. Mina was by no means an alcoholic, nor a binge drinker but she had a healthy respect for a good drink and regularly indulged. Not normally on business though and this was kind of like business for her. She needed information, or she wanted it to be exact. If he showed then he showed, if he didn't then she had just wasted a journey to Telos. Veko Kay'lak would show though, she was sure of it. Her faith however was shaky, she was remembering the Veko from ten years or so ago, and recently the lesson had been driven home that some memories couldn't be trusted. Mere weeks had passed since the turned Jedi Knight Khorin Namahr, her ex-Master and lover had revealed his true colours, after a decade missing but believed dead. He had been the one to plunge the venom into the neck of her father. It had been on the whims of another Sith. One she loathed beyond anything, but was bound by a promise to track down for justice...not revenge. Mina could afford to pay the services of elite bounty hunters or mercenaries. Later when she lay awake with tears staining her cheeks, a pillow clutched her chest and sometimes face to muffle her sobs, she had considered doing just that. However, that was not her way. Mina had spent ten years, one third of her life training as a Jedi and although her skills were greatly dulled, she was still dangerous. Skills could be regained. That was exactly what she had being doing. Mina was retraining her body, it was hard and sometimes she found her memory faltering but having a close relationship with one of the most talented Jedi in several generations and Grandmaster had that as a perk. She doubted she was anymore than a distraction, a mild or moderate one to the Sith. Even when Mina had succumbed to the dark-side twice on one night, she had not been enough. That night gave her nightmares. Her long straight hair was down. It had reached past her shoulders a few days ago but Mina had cut it. The blue curtain of hair reached just to her shoulders and was noticeable thicker appearing. Forgoing cosmetics that she had planned to use (her childhood crush on Veko was gone, however, she did want to make a good impression) but decided not to despite the urge to show a good front. She looked fine without them, or at least she felt she did. Mina was ever aware of the slight shadows underneath long-lashed violet eyes that when she saw her reflection looked older than she did by far. She glanced around discreetly, noting any possible threats. The Sith had not seemed the type to give up and although her pride rebelled against admitting it Mina knew that without Rovnak she was not going to be much of challenge. Broaching the subject of finding Veko had garnered her help from Rovnak, although she knew he had been reluctant to do so. Rovnak hadn't been able to bring himself to refuse even if it certainly seemed he would rather she had forgotten this crusade. He hadn't wanted her to do this alone. But Rovnak had enough on his shoulders- admittedly broad and strong ones- for he was the Head of the Jedi Order. Things had been difficult for the man. Crossing her boot clad legs, her stubborn chin held high she took another drink from her glass. When she had first entered she had attracted looks, a Zeltron never failed to with their bright colouring. It was even worse if someone used pheromomes; she did have that ability but rarely actively used it. Men, or women fell under the sway so easily that Mina actually felt bad for not giving them a fighting chance. Although if it was a life or death situation she wouldn't hesitate. She was a woman with sensible priorities. Most of the time. “This better not be a waste of time.” Mina muttered as she glanced at the time, she couldn't spend long on Telos. Not when she had to meet up with Rovnak for the crime-fighting cruise of sorts she had agreed to join, things were never dull around him. |

Everything had been slow as of late, although the adventure on Kashyyyk had been an eye-opener, the assassin was determined to play things business as usual. The revelations he'd had were not ones to ignore for overlong, but with such circumstances as those that surrounded his position, well, one could imagine that to get away from it all was a worthy pursuit to clear one's already chaotic mind. The very reason he had come to this planet, this restored world and its rebuilt Citadel Stations was because he honestly had nothing better to do, but also because he desired a distraction, one that would wipe his insecurities and precariously perched positions in various situations from his mind. The fact that the meeting was to be staged in a bar was a relief to the assassin, and as he sensed the euphoria, the conglomerate of unbound emotions that emanated from behind the door he grinned. It all felt like a pulse to him, the emotions were the beating heart of the cantina, pumping the bar full of life and energy, fueling the music whose beat was linked to the heart of all things within. Vibrant, ecstatic energy coursed from behind the closed doors he looked upon, and the assassin reveled in it, drank it in like a desert-stranded man drinks in a river of water: greedily and without hesitation, without regard for anyone else's benefit but his own. Lust, passion, enjoyment, excitement, trepidation, hesitation, anger, depression, joy, euphoria, the chaotic emotions swelled within Veko as he breathed in the scent of the bar once the doors finally hissed apart. His own chaotic mind calmed under the sway of the world he had just unleashed and been unleashed upon, all things coming together and restoring him, it seemed, to the state he had been in before his visit to Ruusan so many years ago. Instantly he grasped at the presence he knew to be that of his companion, his counterpart, the woman that he had once fancied and that he wished to enjoy the company of. Veko had no doubt that this woman, this decadent morsel of the female gender, was here to ask him for information and not for a renewed friendship. He very much doubted that she was here and had contacted him merely for the sake of meeting an old friend, rare were the occasions that actually happened. But regardless of her intentions, the assassin drank in the moment as he ordered a drink which would help him come in tune with his surroundings. Always suspicious, Veko hid his presence in the force, whittled it down into nothingness so that she would not know of his approach or arrival. Careful and cautious to a fault, the Lord of the Midnight Militia suspected everyone of being able to form some trap, rudimentary or otherwise, and figured that given her associates as of late this might just be one. However, as he scoured the area for any unwanted visitor the only thing Veko found was a drink being placed before him and a perfect view of the voluptuous vixen's body shrouded in a cloud of blue light in the slight haze of the bar. desire stirred in him then, called to him like the power he indulged in begged for release, cried out to be used on this woman so that she might be his if only for a few hours on this night. A grin spread across his lips as he slid his hand around the ice-cold glass, thoughts of lechery and adultery overtaking his mind as he strode nearer to the origins of this adventure. As determined as he might be to enjoy Mina Devor, former Jedi Apprentice and current Information broker, he knew that he would have to play the game she excelled at, one of information and trickery. It would not be so bad, he longed for a capable opponent and Mina would hopefully prove to be enough for him to handle exquisitely instead being dealt with like a cheap twi'lek waitress who saw too much and left too little to the imagination. "My time is never wasted, Mina," caressed the voice of Veko Kay'lak with a seductive whisper in the zeltron's ear from behind. "Nor would I waste a chance to look on an old friend who once showed me great kindness, and a beauty that is not to be unappreciated." |

“Old friends we may be Veko but it doesn't change the fact we both know this is all for business. Too long has passed; so many experiences have shaped us both and made our past selves but spectres of who we both are now, “ Mina answered not even turning to look at him, a part of her longed to hug the man. She remembered him as the young man he had once been but as soon as his presence had been announced she had sensed the difference. Rovnak had been correct, this wasn't the man she had known, not completely. So her resolve although it wavered just slightly at the edges was still strong. It was a hurtful truth that she had indeed changed from the soft Padawan she had once been. The outside Galaxy wasn't gentle on naďvety, not in the slightest. It had occurred to her only later that she could have sought out her father, but at the time Mina had been twenty years old. She was no longer a child who needed a guardian, but a young woman who was sure of herself to take on the galaxy and win. She could feel his warmth breath brushing against her ear, but she didn't react although part of her was wishing to pull away. "I still have friends within the Jedi and one in particular mentioned of what became of you I had heard rumours but he comfirmed them You probably know about my dear Master Khorin Namahr a betrayer and lets not let me forget the puppet master behind him" The words were bitter, she doubted they could have been anything other than that. Not when the wounds of her ex-lovers betrayal were still so fresh. Mina smiled darkly. “I know the dark-side as well, my old friend. I've heard you are nearly as seductive as the dark side. It embraces you fully and with it comes the power surging through you, the invincibility and promises uttered in your ear, just like a lover in the midst of a bedding. I expect that you know that intimately .” Her words spilled from her mouth so easily, Mina felt a measure of normality, a return from the brink of despair that perhaps she had been standing on without fully realising just how much. She was playing the games, the ones she had spent years learning and perfecting. It was a true statement to how she had changed if the other participant was an old friend. “If you don't already know I'd be surprised. Senator Devor was murdered, my father was murdered before my eyes by my treacherous former lover. It wasn't enough to fake his death, the take my father as a lure for me to be trapped. He didn't even do it on his own. He was truly just an ignorant pawn. That night, I held his life in my hands, one little twitch of my fingers would have crushed his throat. It did kill his friend though. I spared him barely. My attentions were taken by a Sith. Red haired, petite and silver-tongued. Is she a friend of yours?” Mina asked bluntly, she expected an answer, even if it was hidden in the midst of riddles and half-truths. She had gone straight to the point, she had no patience for dancing around the subject. She wanted the information badly. Veko seemed the most likely holder of it. The force was telling her it was right of her to be here now. Mina took a drink from her glass, yet to turn to face Veko. It was probably foolish leaving herself blind, at least when it came to vision of a man who she knew could be dangerous. But something told her that she was fine, for now at least. |

So this was how it was to be was it? All business and no pleasantries, a style that veko had gotten all too used to in recent days. it seemed less and less people were willing to chat or make light in this day and age, and it seemed a bloody waste to him. There was always something pleasant about phonetic composition of words passing between one's lips, succulent, easy, and enjoyed at times just to hear the sound-sex of the language someone spoke. Veko wished Mina had been more ammmenable to the suggestion of lingual foreplay before business but it appeared that she had heard enough to keep things limited, much to his distaste. It was not unknown what he had done among the Jedi, nor what he had generally done since, but he had hoped she had not learned some specifics. However, it seemed while she was well informed she seemed not to know exactly how far he had come since then, or perhaps how far he had fallen. Then again, that was all a matter of perspective wasn't it? The misadventure on Kashyyyk where he'd learned much more than he would have liked about others, the ancients, and himself was enough to make him realize that perspective was what counted most in some cases. How far had Veko fallen? Part of him realized he had not treaded too far off the path he had once walked, but another told him he had been liberated and freed instead of shackled, and that part was the piece of him that yearned for pleasure, interaction, and the liberty to do what he wanted when he wanted. It was an invigorating feeling, being free, but it was his type of freedom that gave criminals and assassins a bad name, that perhaps gave the dark side a bad reputation as well. More and more Veko felt like a shadow on concrete rather than a midnight moonlight's specter cast upon the ground by a lowly piece of scum in a back alley having his way freely with an unwilling woman, but that distinction was hard to come by for the 'enlightened" and Veko had a feeling that such would not work on Mina. "Time breeds in all of us growth, and so the core of our being remains, our past adds to our complexity, and our hopes for the future have yet to be painted on the canvas of our reality and on the leaves of the trees that are our lives," responded Veko, his eyes keenly trained on the corner of Mina's own, waiting for the moment she would gaze upon him. It was a nasty habit, the desire to look someone dead in the eye, but his time in captivity on Ruusan at the hands of Mandalorians, rogue though they may have been, had given him new insight into the warrior culture and a few habits of it that he would have rather escaped not having. But, he realized, such an experience had done well for him in the past, and the constant eye-contact so heavily valued by that culture had won him more than enough victories in the past to be paid due heed. "My condolences about your father, Mina, he was a great man who sought the best for every last one of those that believed in him." Indeed, Mina saw through his usual facades and was able to bring forth information he had not initially expected her to have. The very fact that she was on to him, had heard of his persuasive abilities and his so-called "fall" to the dark side meant that she was not going to be so easy to deal with. It was not unexpected of course, she made a habit, or so he heard, of knowing information that she was not usually supposed to know. It was, however, of interest that she mentioned that one Jedi in particular had made mention of his past and his abilities, as well as one that had helped her in the past. Intrigued, Veko ran through a quick list of names and suspected that those that knew most intimately about his abilities were those that spent their times among criminals, investigators, masters, Knights and the like, but one name in particular appeared to him to be most fruitful, as that name had earned great note as of late in many reports that Veko had heard. "Master Torvalan is as perceptive as ever," Veko guessed, "if not entirely correct in his assumptions about me. As of late it seems my legend and the truth is stretched, and therefore what is true and what is false is unknown to nearly everyone but those involved." Veko eased himself across the gap, unwilling to sit with her gaze directed elsewhere and certain that proximity would do him many favors in this situation, such as even the odds she had so unbalanced in the first few moments of their conversation. "It is only with emotion that we truly get to experience who we are, I merely liberate those feelings in the people that desire to unleash themselves. I unlock the doors that cage who we can be, who we want to be at any given moment." Slowly Veko's hand slid along the knee of his counterpart, slow and seductive, enticing, the touch entertained ideas that would make women blush and even the most stout and stubborn of women waver. "It is not cloaks and daggers, shadows and darkness that allow me to feel the way I feel. It is emotion and life, unbridled vibrant energy that drives me. The flow of the force toward one current or another doesn't matter to me, only life and survival. Whether or not I use my own emotions to enjoy others is just another part of my life. "But how would you know, Mina," Veko continued as his hand gently grasped at her thigh, "what it is like to be with an old friend who merely wished to persuade you to release yourself of your worries and enjoy the myriad of emotions and feelings that await a few closed doors away?" A smile, an easy, seductive smile was planted on Veko's lips as he gazed into the eyes of the woman before him. Mina was indeed a beautiful woman, and the assassin was loathe to admit that losing such a sumptuous opportunity as being with her would wound him. He had rarely had trouble seducing a woman, all of them eventually fell into his palms and onto his lap, but Veko wondered, truly, whether or not he would be able to experience Mina the way he felt the Force had wanted her to be experienced. Her graceful, lithe, curvaceous form was a temptation in and of itself, and Veko knew all too well what enticement she could offer beyond that. Whether or not she would use the inherited traits of her people, the assassin didn't know, but he hoped this escape from the rest of the world and the indulging of information and conversation was to last. "Namahr was a fool to let you go, I knew this the moment he disappeared," sighed the assassin as he eased himself just an inch closer. "To hear he is a pawn is no surprise, but I am sorry for the world turning upside down for you as of late. It must be difficult, and I wish to help ease that burden on our shoulders if you'd let me... As far as his companion is concerned, it would be bad of me to say that I have not met her. My fascination with the past and its secrets is one you knew when we were younger, and the love of knowledge and understanding still persists. She has been useful in acquiring artifacts for me and nothing more, though of her other dealings I know only so much. She is not a friend, she is merely business. "You... Mina... are a friend my shadow-blinded eyes have longed to see for Many years." |

Pleasantries had been discarded and she regretted being so blunt and playing so many of her cards in the beginning. Veko had been a friend in the past. Who was to say but second-hand information that he was still not her friend? In her heart she knew that many things had changed, time had left her mark on both of them. But she could not repress the feelings that still bound her to him. They were tenuous, slender cords that had aged badly, but they were still there. He had featured so much in her memories as a Padawan learner, it was impossible to try and play cold when it came to him, even when shivers rattled up and down her spine, set the very fine hairs on the back of her neck on edge. Veko was dangerous, there was no doubt about that. Physically he had aged very well and retained the black hair that she remembered so well, the same eyes. It almost seem as no time had passed, her mind replacing the image of the thirty five year old man with the one of him in his early twenties. Age had left subtle marks, faint lines and a certain harshness to his eyes and movements. It didn't detract from his cultivated aura, whether actively or passively had he came by it. Don't be a fool, Mina reminded herself. If she gave an inch than Veko would probably end up with ten inches, she had heard the rumours and even if they turned out to be false or exaggerated it was better to be cautious. She couldn't afford to mess this up. Justice- who was she kidding? It was a dark justice flecked generously with vengeance. Mina could not deny it. The red haired Sith had taken the only family member that Mina was close to. She had acted against Mina by taking someone close to her. It was unforgiveable. Mina didn't forgive so easily, she certainly never would forget. Oh, she sounded like a avenger with how she was going. This was really not her style. Mina was bright and cheerful. Getting back on track was clearly going to be a job and a half. The corners of her lips quirked upwards. He really had a way with words. Mina sipped her drink, the tangy but sweet flavour dancing over her taste buds as she straightened her back a little more before answering Veko. “As poetic and eloquent as ever, or even moreso. Envy is all I can admit when it comes to your way with words, such a gift escapes me. Bluntness seems to work for me, a good thing.” She projected a calm exterior, although her interior wasn't quite so composed. Something was flapping its wings in her stomach, and she half expected to feel her heart rate speeding up. “He wasn't particularly much good as a father admittedly, but as a politician he was undoubtedly with few equals. He had a charisma, and he actually believed in bettering things in life. Something that until we reconciled was another thing to be cynical about when it came to politicians. His only crime was having me as a daughter,” the blue haired Zeltron donned a pained expression in her violet eyes as she replied to the condolences. It was true that he had been used to lure her out, he had been innocent of all but fathering her. She knew it was't her fault, but it didn't mean she didn't still feel guiltly about it. “Rovnak does rarely miss a trick. We have a mutually beneficial relationship, our reach over the Galaxy is fairly far reaching with our combined resources. Of course, my contemporaries of sorts don't appreciate me collaborating with Jedi, but most are much too scared to act against me. Those that do tend to back down quite quickly.” Mina knew fine well that Rovnak was alive and well. She definitely woudn't be sharing that and she looked suitably subdued as she sat. It wasn't her wrenching his hand off her thigh, she simply placed her smaller had over it and lifted it from her leg. ” Like I said, I've got a mutually beneficial relationship going on, old friend. I break the common mould amongst Zeltron in that I might end up settling down some day in the future. Have a few kids, get a pet and live in the country. Who knows.” Mina said nonchalantly. Perhaps a few years earlier his touch would have invoked something powerful within her, he was a very attractive man and well practiced in his charms, but as ridiculous as the concept might seem- she was curious into how whatever she and Rovnak Torvalan had between them would progress. Mina smiled indulgently as she remembered Veko and his quest for knowledge of the past. His thirst insatiable, impossible to quench. It seemed some things hadn't changed. The mention of her treacherous ex-lover brought a frown to her face. “I see him for what he is: a coward. I held his life in my hands and his eyes pleaded and were fearful. He was too pathetic for me to kill even in the thrall of the darkness of the force. He can go free, until we cross paths but for now my main concern is the Sith. I don't believe that business hasn't being crossed with pleasure. She is a comely woman, is she not? I'm sure you can provide a name, even some background. I don't forgive easily and I know she can be connected to other murders amongst the Senate, even if the proof or evidence is scant.” She clenched her small hands into fists. “I was going to look for you. But I was a foolish girl, wrapped in my own despair. I've felt guilty about that, knowing what I know now. Things have changed, I didn't come here to renew old friendships but Veko...you will always be my oldest and dearest friend. Even when our paths take different directions-- I care about you. We had many good times, no?” Mina fell silent as she reflected on the ten years previous, around the time when her friend had disappeared. She wished now that she had sought him instead of wasting so many years looking for Khorin. Nothing could be changed, she could only remember her mistake and learn from it. She finished the last of her fruit juice in a straight gulp, suddenly a little self-conscious of the fact she had bared herself so much. It was easy around Veko. He had been her best friend, in some ways he reminded her a little of Rovnak despite the fact they were very different men. Both shared a special place in her heart. |

Mutually beneficial relationship? Veko thought incredulously as he watched Mina closely. I sincerely doubt that it's just a friendship. She wouldn't have relieved her thigh of my touch otherwise. No, Rovnak and Mina must be bedding eachother, or close to anyways. And this idea of settling down? That is certainly not normal for her, her species, nor for Rovnak. Something has to be going on... but how can I use that? Veko pondered those thoughts as he tried to come up with a response to his old friend, a woman he had always regretted not showing a good time. He wished he had at this point, maybe then she might be more amenable to the suggestion of scenes behind closed doors, but he knew it was not to be. Eventually, perhaps, as he built up her trust in him he might be able to tweak her curiosity and desires to match his own, but for now he would have to deal with this devoted and somewhat vengeful Mina Devor. Yes, he sensed that urge for grand reprisal and infinite pain course through her, but he knew that it would need nursing if she was to go one way or the other, whether toward justice, like Rovnak's defeat of his master, or toward revenge, such as that which Veko had wreathed those that had tortured him in. It would be a long and strife-filled task, but it would be anjoyable, and the assassin felt he was surely up to the challenge. "I must admit, she and I have encountered eachother behind closed doors," Veko sighed, a hint of true regret in his voice as he deliberately placed his glass on the nearby table. "But the results were, shall we say, not as I had hoped. Information is hard enough to come by from some people and she was rather reluctant in some cases while providing revelations in others. So yes, I have been to bed with her, but the information she usually provides me with is not of the criminal nature, more the archeological and historic. Ariana Varro is a chronicler for the Sith, a gatherer of ancient knowledge that has few equal save for the Council of First Knowledge among the Jedi and myself." Veko let those thoughts stew for a moment, he wanted Mina to mull things over before he continued. He had divulged information on his relationship with Ariana Varro, not the entirety of it certainly, as the whole truth was one he regretted n some ways, and relished in others. Veko was to have a child by her it seemed, which was the cause of confusion for him, but as soon as that child was born he would attempt to cut her out of the picture, or cut himself out of it. The assassin wanted a legacy certainly, but if he had to choose who bore the heir to his eventual power and influence, it would be through Mina, or perhaps his apprentice if either was possible. It was difficult to say, Mina was taken with Rovnak now it seemed, and his apprentice was not a woman that would be so easily entertained or indulged. No, Veko would have to find some woman of note to embark on that adventure with, and if it ended up being varro, Veko prayed he could find a way to discover the resolve to deal with a Sith on such a level and not a Jedi turned Dark or Criminal. The moment Mina mentioned that she had hoped to seek him out all of those years ago brought Veko's thoughts to a halt, and instead sent him on a course of manipulation and seduction. So she had felt something for him but had been too caught up in puppy love and despair to search for him. it was an intriguing position, he thought, one that Veko could use to fuel further engagements with the sultry Zeltron he felt. She felt he was a friend, and while not one to renew old friendships, she felt they still continued, and veko was willing to believe and indulge in the same. There was a certain feel to this engagement, one that spirited Veko away on a roller-coaster of thoughts that never seemed to stop twisting and turning. veko wasn't sure what way the car would turn next, but Veko himself easily slid a little closer to his old friend and gently wrapped her hands in his own. Warmth, comfort, relief coursed through his touc as he gently grasped at her hands and held them with a light caress. "Not all who visit the darkness are wholly bad or evil, just on a path of life that cannot be described as wholly good. I have not forgotten you Mina, not once in all my years among the shadows of the galaxy. I found those good times to be a salvation for me at times when my mind would dwell on Ruusan and what happened there, and I find strength in it... Strength in you, Mina... Strength in the thought of us. I wish we could give eachother what we both want or wanted in the past, see how the world and galaxy would change around us. It would not be so bad, I think, if we found ourselves wrapped in eachothers arms engaged in the events the galaxy has yet to plunge us into." |

A baby, a pet and a house. Were those things something she actually wanted in life? Prior to dropping it casually a few minutes before she had never thought about it. Now it was different, by saying them she was now considering if she actually considered such a future for herself. It was scary, real scary. Scary in that she didn't even feel as if she had said something completely far-fetched. Mina put it down to getting older, she was turning thirty one in a short time, clearly her biological clock was ticking and it was screaming at her to take notice. Well I just did, Mina thought to herself. Now that she thought about it, she had never even held a baby before. Who was she kidding? Settling down, it wasn't for a woman like her. Zeltron didn't settle down, rarely anyway. Of course she had been raised amongst Jedi- her values were admittedly modified from what she had known as a child- the majority of Jedi were people who practised monogamy, or celibacy in some cases. She didn't hold a strong connection to the planet Zeltros or to her people. How could she when she had spent two thirds of her life elsewhere? Mina didn't even think that polygamy was anything she thought was fine, if it had she would probably have accepted Veko's invitation to bed. But although things with Rovnak were not official, nor were they exactly unofficial, there was something tangible there. Just waiting to be explored. Wow, she was thinking like a sap. Mina was putting too much thought into all of this. Settling down thoughts could wait. Or they'd pass. Blue hair fell forwards, only a couple of strands when she inclined her head to listen avidly to what he was saying. Violet eyes narrowed as she listened to what he had to share. “Ariana Varro.” Mina rolled the name off her tongue, sounding it out, she could picture the Sith in her mind clearer with a name. Intense dislike burned within her. The anger seemed greater now she had a name to put to the title 'Sith'. “If not for other obligations I feel as if I would seek her out immediately, to render my justice, nay, revenge. But as ever, I have responsibilities outwith my sought vengeance. My pride rebels against what my mind tells me, my Jedi training was over a decade ago, my skills have long began to stagnate. Even with my pride I can see that confronting her directly now is not a wise decision.” Mina mused aloud, her face growing pensive as she spoke. She believed what Veko said. Not because she was being a trusting fool, but because she had been careful as he spoke, searching for any sign of dishonesty clever veiled by charming words. Mina didn't feel as if that was all it was, she was sure that there was something more about the Varro to Veko. It screamed at her, there was something she was missing but she inwardly shrugged it away. Now wasn't the time to make assumptions. “To you I owe many thanks, without a name even my network would be unlikely to find much on her. With a name I can do much more. I will ask nothing else of you. But know that I am grateful, Veko.” Pulling away was one option she had considered but decided against. Instead she allowed herself to tense, grow rigid and not relaxing. A man like him would be able to gauge that she was not welcoming any advances by her body language. Not that his touch wasn't..not that it wasn't what a woman would desire. Her eyes shut as she felt a myriad of emotions that touched her deeply to her core. Oh, Veko, the former Jedi thought as she wondered just what he had endured, how it had reshaped him into someone harder. Someone recognisable as the man she had once called her best friend, but so different. When he spoke she longed to agree, one part of her longing to return things to how they had once been. To reclaim a piece of her past, relive her happier days. But she knew it could not be. She would never let it be. Veko walked a darker path. Not one she would ever wish to follow. What he felt wasn't what she wanted. It may not be the Zeltron way, but what Mina was beginning to realise was that she longed for was a home. It didn't have to be a house, or a particular place. Just somewhere, anywhere that she would not be alone, nor unwelcome. To know someone would be with her. Perhaps it would be Rovnak; perhaps it would not be. Maybe it would never happen for her; perhaps it would. All she knew for certain was that she'd like to give it a chance to unfold like that. It was then she knew that she had to pull away, it was a gentle movement, no wrenching her hands but a slight twist and pull. “You weave a powerful story. There is no denial that it appeals to a part of me, if you had asked me years ago- maybe my reply would be drastically different. But no matter how you weave pretty words, poetry spewing from your mouth, it doesn't change on where our paths are leading away from each other. They began to a long time ago. This much I see clearly. My heart can't take any more chances, I don't want fleeting romances. Short lived and definite to end. There is nothing that we can give each other, nothing healthy, nor non-detrimental to what friendship remains between us. So please, do not say more of that to me,old friend.” She raised her eyes to his as she uttered the last few words, pleading for him to stop. That was all she had to say. |

Good, giving Mina the name of Ariana Varro had proved advantageous to the Zeltron,, and in return it would prove advantageous ffor Veko as well. While he had some concern for Ariana, as she carried his progeny, he was unsure if he would care overmuch if the woman died. he might have to keep her alive until she gave birt, but afterwards he mightt easily deliver so-called "integral" information to Mina as to Ariana's location and let the two women fight it out. The idea appealed to Veko, but not as much as he would have originally thought. He damned the force for inflicting upon him this strange curse of concern and worry, but he accepted it and would own it for as long as it was his to bear. It would not be easy at times, but the assassin was sure he could milk his own emotions to get more from Ariana, he was sure of it. Those thoughts were interrupted, howeve,r when Mina parted their hands and proclaimed that they were not to have such a quick and decisive relationship, that she was not to follow in her race's footsteps, and that she had felt that way about him once long ago but no longer. Pride wounded and ego bruised, Veko hid his discomfort and irritation with a sigh of disappointment, one he knew was infinitely convincing to any that might witness it. So she truly did have some greater emotion and purpose in regards to her relationship with Rovnak Torvalan, truly a surprise. But then, as he examined the information he had garnered from her, his contacts, and the emotions mixed into their idle chatter, he had an idea as to what she felt. It would be hard to overcome that curiosity and heartfelt emotion, but Veko would have to attempt it. Now was certainly not a time that he could test his theories, but eventually he might be able to use them on either Rovnak, Mina, or both of his light-sided counterparts among the galaxy. Still Veko strove to find the upper-hand in this negotiation, this summit, this convergence of old friends. He did not want it to end so quickly as to not get anything out of it, but as much as he had garnered from this meeting so had she, or so he thought at first. An idea sprung in his mind, one twisted and born of a criminal's cunning, one that breathed the very ideals that Veko held to in any negotiation, one that came to him with sudden inspiration. it was a possibility, a risky one at that, but it would be worth it if it succeeded. The use he would get out of such a thing could be infinite if played correctly, but it could also be limited, and he would have to decide wisely what course of action he would take and what resource he could turn this idea into. "As you wish Mina, but should you ever find yourself alone and without love or emotion, know that I will supply what I may of anything you might need in such a time," whispered Veko as he slipped Mina into a gentle hug, one that allowed him to slip the tiniest of transmitters into a thick spot in her clothing that would not be detected anytime soon, or so he hoped. A sigh of contentment later and Veko withdrew, he gazed at Mina with a look of longing but understanding before he spoke again. "I do hate to impose, Mina, but in our line of work as criminals and information brokers, knowledge is power, and I just divulged a great deal to you. I would ask of you one favor of my choosing whenever I choose, if it is agreeable to you, and we will call it even upon completion of that task.... Do we have an accord old friend?" |

Mina knew it was not particularly good of her as a friend to be suspicious of his motives, but there was something despite the warmth she felt towards him niggling at the back of her mind. It was a warning not to give him her trust; not completely anyway. Mina couldn't hold him to the man she remembered, the lecher he had clearly become was enough to make her wary. Comfortable in her own appearance she had never taken any delight (for the most part) in being looked at as something delectable. Well, when she had been much younger she had. Now, at the age of almost thirty one she had by some miracle grew a bit more modest. The issue was that she had let herself make a novice mistake. How could she not iron out the price for information prior to receiving it? How could she not make sure she held the upperhand? She hadn't made such a mistake in a decade nearly. Yet she had made a mistake with a man who would be more than sharp to know and manipulate her-- not that she would allow it. She might've laughed bitterly at herself, only if she had been alone. She mustn't let her guard down to much, she could not let herself be naďve and place trust that would inevitably be shattered in her friend. Yes, she considered him a friend. In this world of secrets, sabotage and crime it was easy for friends and enemies to not be mutually inclusive. Deep within, the blue haired Zeltron was holding the awareness that Veko had his own motives. Just as she did. “Not to cast doubt on the sincerity of your offer, but we both know your meaning. You've changed so much, I'm surprised a little but I was been foolish clinging to naivety in that you would be just as I remembered. When I look at your face, the same face that age hasn't touched nearly as much as one would think by age...I am cast back to easier times—when things were all so black and white. So simple.” Her voice was lower, a half-hearted smile playing at the corners of her lips. Violet eyes flickered briefly with resigned sadness as she pulled away from the embrace. “We are at an accord. As you said, information is never free in our world. Information can make or break someone, and that means it is power. Even amongst friends it is not something to be passed along freely. I forgot myself in not striking an accord prior to your revelations. A novice mistake.” She took a breath as she stood from her seat, brushing off imaginary dust or lint from her thighs. “We part ways, old friend. May the force be with you.” With that the Zeltron turned and strode towards the door. Business was over and she was in no mood for socialising. A foreboding feeling had now taken a place within her mind. She just wished she knew what. |
