Through time the Arkanians have been known for their genetic experiments and self improvements, through the art of cybernetic enhancements. It was how the Yaka’s came to be, along with the Arkanian Offshots and many other experiments, deemed horrific and cruel to the species or individuals experimented on. Arkan Parayal descended from a long line of wealthy and ingenious Arkanian scientists, devoted practitioners of the common Arkanian belief of continually improving their condition and their lives. Arkan himself had been a lead researcher at Arkanian Microtechnologies. Arkan himself had been consumed by his desire to engineer the perfect son, it was to him his legacy. A man gifted with great intelligence, who was far from contempt at conceiving a child through normal means. As far as he was concerned, his descendents had to be the pinnacle of evolution as he thought himself to be. Nothing could be left to chance, and therefore in the last thirty years of his life, all of his attention was directed to that goal. Through his contacts, and his deep pocket he was even able to contract help from a well reputed Kaminoan geneticist and cloner. Despite all of the hardships and difficulties found along the way, Arkan never wavered from his goal, never faltered. That was one of the characteristics that had set their species apart from most others, their determination and dedication to their work. Parayal, the senior had been toiling with the concept for far too long, he had spent too much to make it happen. Many trials were undertaken, often the results being discarded as nothing more than commodities. Most people in the galaxy at large would have been repulsed at the mere thought. Abducted individuals from several species, sometimes slaves were often dissected to better understand what made them different. Every time a child was conceived using the altered DNA strands using cloning technology, something went terribly wrong. What emerged from the cloning vats was something out of a nightmare, too foul and twisted to ever be considered Arkan’s progeny. Simply put, no matter how much the Arkanian tried, he simply was not succeeding. Despite all of the technological and scientific breakthroughs that had been made by his kind, his goal was far from his reach. Regardless of that notion, he persevered, Parayal wouldn’t give up on his desires simply because no real advances were being made. With every failure, new realizations and discoveries emerged from his mistakes. With patience and unending dedication, Arkan, continued his research, often disregarding the pain and misery he was unleashing as a necessity. Individuals from species such as the Dashade, the Shistavanen and even Force Sensitives were studied on, although the wide majority was too impractical to even attempt. The man even used industrial espionage to manage to get his hands on sensitive Kaminoan researches, such as the Dark Apprentice and others. Still, regardless of everything he learned, by himself or through other people’s research, his desire was unfulfilled. Even after learning through the study of DNA genomes of other species what gave them certain abilities, he still couldn’t merge them with his own. On the last years of his attempt at creating his son, most of his attention was now directed at altering and micro engineering his own DNA. All of the previous knowledge was now being put to use in this alteration, very few test subjects being used for study. By now, Arkan had figured that the common cloning procedures were inconsistent with what he was trying to achieve. That was something that greatly enraged the Arkanian, mainly because the company he had worked on had done similar work. Even then, he would have to go beyond what had been done in the past. Parayal would have to conceive through “normal” means after all. An Arkanian female of great interest to him was kidnapped and placed under stasis, her eggs being harvested for use. The scientist would stop at nothing in his endeavours, even if that meant experimenting on his own kind. Using his knowledge he impregnated the female with a fertilized egg, that contained the altered strand of his own DNA. If successful, Parayal imagined that his progeny would share his high level of intellect, as well as possessing notable physical attributes that would set him apart from even the most notable Arkanians. The woman remained in captivity throughout the entire pregnancy period, although she was unconscious most of the time. Even at an early stage, Arkan realized that the fetus was not everything he imagined. Unexpected mutations had occurred in the gestation period, but the unborn child still seemed normal in Arkanian standards. For that reason alone it was allowed to survive until birth. Finally at 40 ABY Odun Parayal was born in Arkania, under the watchful eye of his father. The child was deemed worthy of Arkan’s heritage, and thus the experiment was terminated, for the time being anyway. The female was killed as it was to be expected from the inhumane older Parayal. From that point on, Odun’s father raised his progeny with all the help that his vast wealth could offer. Many tests were conducted throughout Odun’s life by his father, to ascertain the success of his attempt at raising the bar of evolution for the Arkanians. Even at a young age, the child seemed to possess a keen intellect, along with higher physical capabilities not customarily seen in beings so young. Odun grew to be an improvement over his father, as it was noted by Arkan himself. Not that the progeny of Arkan was more intelligent than him, at best it could rival him. What set him apart were the physical aspects that far exceeded that of a normal Arkanian, without the usage of cybernetic enhancements that is. But what truly astounded Arkan was the high midi-chlorian counts within his blood. The best education that credits could buy was provided to the child from a young age, into adulthood. Much to Arkan’s displeasure however, Odun, showed great interest in physical matters over those of the mind. The younger Parayal showed little interest in becoming a scientist just like his father, even though he had the required traits for such a thing. Despite that, Arkan still held his son in high regard, and hoped to sway Odun’s mind. A deal was struck between them, the young Parayal could purse his other interests, if he continued his education under his father’s watch. Throughout his teenage years, Odun, kept indulging his father’s wishes, although at that time he began to wonder how he had come to be. When he realized the true nature of his existence, Odun, was anything but shocked or appalled. Truth of the matter, he had taken the Arkanian’s mindset to heart. Still, he was asked not to reveal to anyone else how he had come to be, in fear of repercussion for the actions undertaken in the past. It was a tad harder to keep it a secret than first imagined, since Odun believed himself to be the next step in Arkanian evolution and therefore it was something to be praised. Regardless, the young Parayal did his best not to. |
