General Information Location: Prakith Builder: Darth Andeddu Height: 200 meters Usage Era(s): - Rise of the Empire era - Legacy era Affiliation: - Darth Andeddu - Malevolence - Darth Mortis History Andeddu's Keep was a fortress constructed on the Deep Core world of Prakith, designed to serve as the stronghold of Darth Andeddu, Dark Lord of the Sith. Far removed from any form of established civilization, Lord Andeddu used the Keep as his personal repository of Sith lore, and also as the location of his secret tomb. Prior to his death, Darth Andeddu fled the Sith homeworld of Korriban and returned to his fortress, in an attempt to elude capture by those who desired his knowledge for themselves. He entered the Keep's innermost chamber, and sealed himself—and his knowledge—within a sarcophagus. Followers of Darth Andeddu known as the Malevolence continued to reside within his fortress for millennia after the Dark Lord's passing, immersing themselves in the dark side of the Force while awaiting his return. By 63 ABY the Keep was in the midst of falling into disrepair, the cultists focusing only on keeping one or two rooms viable for habitation. The arrival of Layne Torell, an acolyte of the Sith Order, brought great change to the Keep. Defeating several cultists and plundering the various rooms of the Keep, Layne eventually came into conflict with the revived Darth Andeddu. Wounded and sorely tested, Layne came out triumphant by using the Dark Lord's arrogance, fears and lack of lightsaber prowess against him, stabbing Andeddu and turning his own lightning against him. Subjugating the cult into his service, Layne declared himself a Lord of the Sith and the keep as his own, to become his secret redoubt against the galaxy. Layout and Architecture Items in red are intended additions to the fortress. Located a great distance from any area of habitation on Prakith, what was formerly Andeddu's Keep is an isolated and feared place. An impressive structure that stretched at least two hundred meters into the air, the keep had the appearance of a foreboding place where few would want to tread. Erected at the peak of the Andeddu's power and paranoia, the keep sits nestled against a group of mountains and is accessed primarily by two ornate, heavy doors that are usually sealed to the outside world. A single large tower crowns the structure; smaller towers, little more than heightened rooms, are situated around the tower at a lower height. The shape of the edifice, coupled with the single large tower, is designed to symbolized the dominance one Sith over all else. Upon entering the Keep, visitors pass into an antechamber of considerable size; several paths diverge from this hallway, each leading to a different location within the fortress. The path on the left leads down to the closest series of living quarters, where those cultists who guard the ground levels of the keep reside. They are sparcely furnished; little more than uncomfortable beds and dim lighting. It should be noted, here and now, that lighting throughout the entire keep is dimmed and casts a red pallor across the walls and floors, keeping with the overall Sith colour scheme that has emerged throughout the millenia. It adds an eerie tone to the keep - already a desperately dark place - that would put any sane person on edge. The closest path on the right leads to a series of corridors that all lead to the same dead, where traps and fog released through ventilent shafts clouds one's mind and makes returning to the antechamber almost impossible. The next path on the left is a narrow, straight path with little in the way of decoration, but it drops suddenly into a steep set of stairs after some time. These stairs lead to a chamber on a lower floor where prisoners are kept in a series of cages, tortured occasionally either by cultists or by each other in fits of anger or insanity. Layne intends to add a series of computer systems which will permit an individual with the right access codes to use technology installed to torture individuals, such as poisonous fumes, electrical shock devices and so forth. This chamber is connected via an additional passageway to a room on the second floor, with said room being nothing but a chamber adjacent to the throne room. This passageway is secured by various traps such as swinging blades, spiked pits and sliding walls. Currently these traps are uncontrollable but Layne intends to have a computer system installed and connected to each device which will enable him to control their functions via entering a code. The second path on the left leads to the holding pens. Here Darth Andeddu once kept his most prized animals; Tuk'ata, Wraid, Hssiss, Shyrack. Rumour had it he also once controlled a terentatek. Layne has stolen a large variety of creatures from a hutt crime lord (now deceased) on Nal Hutta, including Garrals, Clawbirds, Kath Hounds, Stalker Lizards and even two Vornskr, kept securely caged at all times. This room is kept safe by two sets of large, obsidian-lined doors, one set barring entrance even if the first is breached. These doors are intended to keep the creatures in as much as they are to keep intruders out. The third path on the right leads to the study quarters, if that is the right term for them. Currently all but empty, the room has several large bookcases, tables and benches for use. Layne has stolen tomes and books to add to these shelves from Korriban which detail not only potential training regimes and talents but also Sith history and culture, and intends to add lighting, and a computer system for access to information stored on datacards, chips and so on. He also intends to knock the wall into the next empty chamber down, create a doorway between the two and place a simple podium there on which devices may be placed and connect to the computer systems to show holographic displays. The final path in the antechamber, with the exception of the central, is on the left. This path leads to the training area, a series of four rooms - one large, three small - where individuals can practice either their Force powers or their combat methods. Layne has stolen training droids and remote devices to assist in the training from Korriban - seven droids and a handful more remotes. The central path from the antechamber is quite long, taking roughly twelve minutes to traverse at an average walking pace. There are numerous small rooms leading off from this chamber, most of them nothing more than storage space for odds and ends that are accumalated over time. One of these rooms will serve as the main interrogation chamber for prisoners once the walls between three rooms have been knocked down, making it one large chamber. Here interrogation droids will be used to extract information from prisoners. Another chamber on the opposite side will be used for droid maintenance and repairs, once the correct equipment has been collected. At the end of the corridor is a junction. The path to the left leads to a large room, currently empty but eventually to be filled with medical equipment in case of wounds, injuries and so forth, and to ensure prisoners do not die from interrogation. The right path will take an individual to another empty room but will eventually lead to the hangar. The path ahead takes another minute or two to traverse, during which the traveller must pass by cultists standing guard and bas-reliefs. One bas-relief shows Darth Andeddu fighting off his enemies during his time in power, and the other shows unknown Jedi and Sith fighting during the Great Hyperspace War. Sith chalices burn brightly on either side, giving off a smell of incense and causing the unwary, or those not tuned to the Force, to become dazed. At the end of the corridor is the throne room, where the lord of the keep resides during 'official' meetings. This room is more brightly lit than the rest of the keep, with more Sith chalices and bas-reliefs on either side of the room. Two such chalices can be found beside the throne itself, a seat of obsidian on a raised dias, with four steps needed to reach it. Behind the throne hangs a black curtain, void of shape or movement even in the breeze. In the center of the room is a small podium on which a holoprojector and receive is integrated, allowing Layne to both see those who communicate with him and return their communications, or contact others if necessary. At the back of this room, behind and to the right of the throne, is the door to the tower. Only the lord of the keep and those permitted are afforded the right to use this door and Layne intends to put several locking mechanisms in place, including a Force activation device similar to those found in some lightsabers. The stairs to the tower wind upwards in a circular fashion, with very little lighting and nothing in the way or ornamentation. Where once the room at the top was empty it now serves as Layne's chambers, having moved everything from Andeddu's room to this one. It contains a large ornate bed, desks and places for study and, at the foot of the bed, a large chest, locked several times over. What lies in that chest remains a mystery thus far. The one room that absolutely no one is permitted access to is the crypt. Deep beneath the keep lies the final resting place of Andeddu, where Layne cast the Dark Lord aside and destroyed the sarcophagus. It is there, in that sealed room, that Layne practices his dark arts and continues his studies in isolation. The door to this room is protected by two cultists, the most trusted of the group, and sealed with Sith runes put in place with what very basic knowledge Layne has gleaned from Andeddu's scriptures thus far. His tomes, spellbooks and prized possessions rest within, carefully concealed in nooks and crevices. As was mentioned earlier, there is a corridor off from the main corridor that leads to an empty room. This room is next to a hollow space in the mountain, the result of various experiments of Andeddu's and possibly part of some plan that remained unfulfilled after his death. Once he has the resources and manpower Layne intends to knock through the wall and into the hollow space, securing it using durasteel and other strong metals and, in time, transform the hollow space into a hangar capable of holding shuttles and other ships, probably up to heavy freighter in size. |
