He was nervous. Jaymes felt that strange for a moment as he walked up the steps to the Palace of Dromund Kaas, the Emperor's palace. He had been there a few times with his father when he was younger, but never had he been here by himself. He also knew this was strange. He was an acolyte within the SIth Order and, while he had completed a Junior ROTC program in his younger years, he was still nothing. He was beneath the Emperor's notice, and yet earlier in the day he had received a summons from the Emperor. Then he had received a message from his father to be seen in his finest robes. Something was up, and Jaymes didn't like it.

He supposed he had reason to be nervous.

Jaymes was at the end of his acolyte training, he could sense this. A plateau had been reached and he was certain the only way he could better himself would be under the guidance of a Master. But the favor of a Master had been hard to come by for the Human acolyte, the Trueborn Sith looking down on the man for not being red skinned and ugly. This was many years before humans would be active within the Sith of the Hidden Empire, and Jaymes was promised to be among the first. And yet, still it was hard at times. Jaymes was the one of the few of his kind, a Force Sensitive human being living under the thumb of this lost Empire and life was lonely. But he knew that he must grin and bear it, shrug off the insults, both overt and covert, and continue on this path towards becoming a Sith, if not for him or his people, then at the very least for the honor of his father. That did not make this any easier.

Jaymes stepped into the Palace then, after treading the stairs that seemed to go on forever that walked towards the main entrance of the obelisk. He felt cold as he passed under the archway of the palace doors, receiving only a dead stare from the guards as they allowed him entrance. He found that curious, almost as curious as he found this whole affair. Once again he wondered why he had been summoned here. He was stopped in the main hallway as he neared the throne room, searched and then told to wait as his presence was announced. The normally confident young man swallowed a lump in his throat as he entered the throne room.

Sitting on the throne was the Emperor, a man known to all and yet to no one, a timeless thing that seemed to live forever. This was the power of the Dark Side, Jaymes knew, and yet to attain that level of mastery had to take something even more then just a thorough study of the Force. To look at the man, one would assume the now one hundred year old Emperor was just a boy only a few years older than the eighteen year old Jaymes Antrus. Jaymes still could not guess for what purpose he had been called into the Emperor's throne room, as he approached the throne and then knelt down deeply in front of it, his eyes fixed to the floor away from the Emperor's.

"My lord. You have summoned and I have answered. What is thy bidding, your majesty?" Jaymes said, slipping easily into the subservient political tone that his father had always taught him to speak as when in the presence of someone who was your better. He thought he had opened well until he heard a laugh coming from the Emperor. It wasn't a frightening laugh, as he would have expected it to be, something booming and cruel. It was light and actually seemed to contain a hint of amusement. Jaymes prickled a bit at the sound, and said, "Have I done something your grace finds amusing?"

That seemed to make the Emperor even more amused. But he at least spoke to Jaymes to waylay his anger.

"Nothing so simple, young man, you simply remind me of your father. He has taught you all the manners that befit one who seeks favor with the Emperor." The Emperor of the Sith was saying to Jaymes, taking some of the sting from the perceived insult. "But I do not have a need for more bootlickers and court officials, I have need of Sith. I have heard word that you have the makings of a Sith, young one.
