QUESTIONNAIRE II Question #1: Where would the stem cells for research come from? Answer #1: The stem cells would come from the umbilical cord if we are talking about embryonic stem cells. Though if we are talking about adult stem cells, they could come from the blood, bone, skin, or nerve cells if able to be reached by scientist. Question #2: What is in vitro fertilization? Answer #2: The things that are in vitro fertilization are eggs in which that are fertilized by sperm outside of the womb, in vitro. Question #3: What happens to the left over embryos after a couple has successfully had children? Answer #3: The left over embryos are kept within liquid nitrogen in fertility labs. Question #4: What are the other sources of stem cells? Answer #4: Stem cells can be found in other sources like bone marrow, skin, blood, and organs. Question #5: Why do scientist prefer the embryonic stem cells? Answer #5: They prefer it because it can cure present day diseases and injuries, that have yet to be cured. They feel that embryonic stem cells can cure these injuries & diseases. Question #6: Why should United States use federal funding for scientific research? Answer #6: They should fund scientific research because it will need to be funded in order to be able to find curses to diseases known to be incurable. To add, to help fix injuries that have yet to be fixed in this world. This could change the world, if funded. Question #7: What ethical questions did President Bush have to consider before making his decision? Answer #7: Questions that he had to consider when making his decision is if it was constitutional. Another question that he had to consider is if killing a unborn human is a crime or not, and unjust. Question #8: What is the connection between stem cell research & cloning? Answer #8: The connection between stem cell research & cloning is that, the scientist would take out the nucleus of the donor egg, then they would take out the nucleus of the patients egg, and place it into the embryo, thus cloning. This is called Therapeutic Cloning. Question #9: According to President Bush, how many stem cell lines exist? Answer #9: According to President Bush, he claims that there are more then 60 genetically diverse stem cell lines that already exist. Question #10: What was Bush's final decision about funding stem cell research? Answer #10: Bush's final decision was to limit stem cell research and to stop embryonic stem cell research federal funding. |
