Their skin runs pale while ruined and destroyed with a leathery, decaying touch—almost as if mummified. While they walk like decaying husks of flesh and bone they utilize their limbs for the use of mobility. Their arms being about the length of their bodies while walking on their knuckles; their hing legs are shorter and more robust to allow momentum to be carried through thick muscles within the thighs. Their “hands” are deformed, almost skeletal like, thin and barely hold any functionality/dexterity when expanded or opened. The reason behind their names comes from the source of “weeping” sound they produce when alone, among others of their kind, trapped, or content and sometimes even out of fear. A soft harmonic tone carries through the gallows and empty halls of abandoned buildings, dead lands, and desolate cities. Their cries and pleads shrieking of horrific terror send chills racing down the spine once enraged or threatened, causing instantaneous anger once approached. They’re presumed deadly when encountered and volatile due to their dormant like states when walking or moving about. They’re also referred to as Ghosts because of their apparition-like appearance and their presence normally indicates death (or a death omen). With Daem crippled to its core some of its blossoming and garnished cities are now what they call ghost towns with ash falling from the gray skies, clouded with mist and a cold, icy touch. They’re known to walk among the dead as if they were dead themselves considering they’re entirely dead on the inside yet living as well. Their faces carve a more enlightening and terrifying touch to their features, giving away the gruesome tales each Ghost has. A skull hangs like a decoration from their head, obscuring the grotesque face behind the mask. Skin peeled from the bone, leaving exposed muscle and bone underneath their heads are composed of a reddened mess of gore and blood. Their jaws hang loosely from their maw and skull, almost hanging at a slant while a dressage of loose muscle, flesh, and sanguine-enriched blood drip from the bone and jaw. Their teeth serrated and somewhat “human-like”, their completely akin to their ghastly features. Piercing gray, crimson, black, or pulsing white eyes illuminate from the soles of their skulls, each color representing/symbolizing a form of fate from their past. It’s said that the Ghosts were known to be the ancient leaders of the Revenants taking on the monsters they were, almost as if they had been taken over by their inner demons while being mutilated physically and taking on a demented, corrupt, and disfigured shape. They become the monsters they once were, and the virus ravaging Daem seems to work in vast, mysterious ways. While there are many tales about them, it was never sure on where they can from or their origin. Tales say they were once soldiers or mighty guardians of Democritus or even the corrupt lost souls of the Vallec twisted in ways they couldn’t explain. Either or, the Ghosts are a lot more than just walking corpses with a dreadful past—they’re also demented souls ripped away from their bodies whom spent years within the Hallows, bringing back the broken and dismantled pieces with them. "This is what you become when you lose your soul… When they rip you to pieces and mutilate you to little or no recognition. You become this sloppy mess while slowly losing your mind. You don’t recognize yourself, you don’t feel and you don’t breathe. You’re just a wandering corpse with a demented shame tethered to you. You can’t hide from you because this—this is what you’re gonna become.” Notable Necromae Ryyo’vyn Vectes Basic Information Origin There are various tales as to how the Soulless came to be, one of the most infamous stating they’re the lost souls from Lethe—tattered, torn, warped, dysfunctional, disfigured, and demented. Often times they speak of them as corrupted souls from those whom fought on Democritus’ soil and lost their lives within battle, or even the tainted souls that once was the Vallec. However one goes it seems that each tale points to one direct source: Lethe. The Necromae or the Soulless happen to be almost all of the above. They’re wandering corrupt souls torn from their bodies and sent to their own hell (Lethe) while being forgotten and put through years of unexplained torture while living in their own obscured hell. Whilst sources cannot be proven it is said their origin is presumed to be constructed from Lethe itself and spat out from the realm—as if they weren’t needed or lacked the space for their souls. There are two types of Ghosts: Necromae and Soulless. Necromae are fairly different from the Soulless in various aspects and forms. Necromae are easy to point out considering they do in fact have souls, but they were jammed back into their bodies and caused a rapid mutation within their bodies due to the tainted soul being mangled and mutilated for so many years. They slowly become the monster they were molded into down in Lethe while surrendering to their inner demon, mocking its shape and monstrosity closely. They’re also known to be seen feeding on the dead or presumed to “guard” cities that reek of death. It is spoken that either Necromae or the Soulless taint their living and presence by hanging around cities composed of death or where slaughter, murder, or any form of fate had occurred, almost being a form of Death Omen perhaps. Considerably, if a Necromae or Soulless is spotted within the area (kinda of like vultures) there are one or two reasons as to why: Death is about to happen or has happened. The Soulless range to being almost like ghosts or apparitions, but taking on their shapes while appearing to be almost tangible. The Soulless are morbid forms of tainted husks that wander aimlessly without single evidence of a soul being within their bodies, and they’re considered to be the more volatile, malicious, and grotesque of the two. No emotion or thought/mind functionality, no source of empathy or sympathy, and not even signs showing the slightest amount of dignity or fear. When abruptly taken by surprise, disturbed or touched they turn into a beast mortified by their unwilling capability to kill anything on sight. Unstable and ruled to be lethal, dangerous and savage, most denizens take extra precautions when dealing with the Soulless if spotted within the area. They may be deemed without a soul, but that doesn’t mean they have been restricted of any source of power and cannot kill the living or dead. And that’s what makes them deadly and ll of fear: they seem almost invulnerable and untouchable. Eye Color Eye color depicts the source of their agony, which can run along the lines of betrayal to murder. Their origin also remains cryptic and mind-bending, making them almost “alien” to Daem’s vast secrecy among its species and inhabitants. For the most part eye color is what most denizens or wanderers look out for, and some have told about mysterious visions or illusions coming from the soulless beasts such as vivid and tangible images or scenes played out like a movie through their conscience. While they still adopted the name The Weeping or Weeping Hollows they’re never more volatile and malicious than what their name stands for. Eye color is important and a key feature to look out for, especially when in colors. They may speak with high pitched screams or a series of weeping tones, but their eye color speaks a different language and their fate. Below is a list of colors with their meanings and a few Soulless to help distinguish their fates and reasoning behind their eye color.
The Weeping + Sounds Another form of difference between the two are the sounds each one produces and creates, to help alleviate confusion between either or. Necromae produce a soft toned cry when wandering any form of dead-land (i.e. such as Decessus) that has been consumed by death and reeks of it. With soft willows and echoes coming from their mangled bodies, they can be easily spotted once the tones grow louder. Seemingly they make it almost nearly impossible to find them due to their resonating weeping echoing throughout the entire area, proving for it to be difficult to find their exact location. The Soulless produce higher echoes and conclude to perform “clicking” sounds whilst mocking the same weeping echo Necromae’s produce, which seemingly is the common factor that nearly has been proven difficult to distinguish between the two. However, the Soulless also produce a high frequency like scream or shriek when startled or go into a chaotic like insanity/dementia. It’s also used to help pin point their location to other lurking Soulless within their proximity, and can also be used as a lure. Unlike Necromae the Soulless feed off the living and consume souls and/or flesh, another trait in which make them dangerous and deadly to any newcomer or wanderer(s). Soulless also tend to have a ghostly mist-like appearance while appealing to a white ethereal emitting from their bodies like a gas whilst Necromae look almost solid, mortal and a grueling mess of flesh. There are various infamous characters that have bloomed themselves a reputation, some of them being old famous characters that have died and became these forms of mangled, disfigured monsters of the dark and nightmares. One of them being the righteous and presumed father of Aly’vyn: Ryyo’vyn. Rumor has it that after he had slaughtered his family (with the exception of Aly’vyn), he was held bent on his burden and died shortly after by a Reveille and deemed imprisoned within Lethe and spat out into the monstrosity he once was. No source of evidence declared it true, but some sources presume of seeing a figure resembling him while becoming one with his inner demon and fate, whilst his eyes a grueling mass of sanguine and enriched hues of red. Death Echoes Lure used in Necromae to reel in unsuspecting victims. Usually consisting of screams from those close to the victim. Black Goo or Golden Liquid It has been told that some Necromae have been seen hacking up a black, tar like goo from their maw, which could be parts of their mangled souls turning into a oozing slush due to be forced down their gullets while thriving off of a decomposing matter of flesh, and after years spent in Lethe their souls can no longer be supported within their bodies, which has been characterized to being a lot similar to a parasite resembling the one seen throughout Daem. Likewise, as Necromae purge their guts out and move on they’re unaware to their damaged and tainted souls melting within their bodies, becoming a gooey slop while excavating through their own husk. Most stories say this is how Soulless can be created as well besides being torn and ripped away from their own corpse or spat from Lethe, but usually it’s unknown as to their main origin exactly. Soulless are sometimes found to have a golden or white gold like liquid run through their bodies, tracing vein-like striations within their misty appearance.
