Catalysts and Cysts

Catalyst
Basic Information

Catalyst Properties
With the properties pertaining to the Catalyst itself, each one is unique and has its own Core scheme. Meaning, each Catalyst Core has a different color—they’re all different, never the same. Aly’vyn's happens to be a lambent turquoise-blue due to the merging of her parents’ Catalysts (her father having a deep indigo, whilst her mother’s was a soft turquoise). There are two layers to a Catalyst: the inner and outer layer. The inner layer is an intricate banding of metal that resides around the inner Core of the Catalyst itself, providing support and sufficient power cells and ducts to which the Core uses to supply energy throughout the body. The outer layer is a thick laced metal made out of material that is unknown to humans, but is called Vinyl among the Revenants. Vinyl is the supporting metal in which holds and seals the Core in its center cavity, keeping it guarded and well secured, acting similar to a cell membrane. In the center of the outer layer is a thin window-like glass that allows the Catalyst to bleed through, holding the ability for others to see their Catalyst Core when its either exposed or bled through their chest on command (usually during the main ceremony to honor Revenant). A Catalyst core, however, doesn't necessarily always have to be one color, it can also ascertain multiple colors in one, just like an iris of an eye.

The Catalyst Core runs diligently, optimizing and working to keep the body mobile, secured, and ongoing, never to cease even after death. A Catalyst is always working no matter what, which is why the Core is alive when in the hands of others, but it does use a safe security system when around foreign others, so they must be handled with care. Unless a Revenant or the demon host itself hasn't applied a friendly list to their Catalyst (basically syncing their memories to their Catalyst, along with those whom they trust), avoiding all contact with those whom deem a threat to them, especially humans. Cysts, however, always remain black, sometimes you can find one being either indigo or amethyst. But they’re always black due to the corruption of the virus ravaging their bodies, becoming ravenous and a complete pandemic. The charred, hallow Cyst is more vulnerable and weak, but still performs effectively with some or more flaws than a Catalyst itself.

Catalysts: What are they?

A Catalyst is merely similar to an arc reactor, in ways it becomes fathomable. It runs on energy and an element (more likely to be electricity or some powerful combustible element like Plutonium), holding the functionality that becomes operative at full capacity, making it enabled to perform at best in the body of a Revenant and Vulkan (Vulkuren as well). The performance rates within the Catalyst run more than 30 joules per second, making it last longer than 100 lifetimes. As it works and operates to move, construct, enable, empower, and engage the demons its hosted in, the Catalyst alters and renders as well, even its host: which is the demon (more so Revenants and Vulkan than Vulkuren). A stable energy has to be sufficient in order to function and work the Catalyst itself alone, making it a focused objective if energy and/or power is depleting/depleted. Energy is hard to harvest, let alone provide when not enough elements or energy had be sustained in the beginning. As it works to provide, support, and recover, the Catalyst’s main function is to separate flesh from mechanics, run DNA sequences, transfer fluids and information to the brain, provide bodily support, optimize performance, eradicate any foreign substances from the blood (that includes viruses or other harmful objects), and inquire a healthy procession of energy and strength throughout the body and itself. The Catalyst doesn’t have one job, it has multiple, and those are just a short few that it does to the Revenant, Vulkan, and Vulkuren body. A Catalyst is required to have within their bodies, or they will not function properly without the usage being the main control center of their system; amongst thousands of Vulkan, Vulkuren, and Revenants, only one has been known to been born without a Catalyst, and her name runs by Aly’vyn Vectes.

Uncanny to the nature, she was birthed without a heart, having nothing in her chest cavity besides the basic organs and bones behind the layers of muscle and flesh. How she managed to live, it was unknown: even the most intelligent of the species couldn’t determine an answer for such a rare occasion. For years she’s been hooked up to an artificial heart that replaced where her Catalyst should’ve been, seeing as years after her birth she still hadn’t developed one. They figured it was premature and hadn’t developed yet, but even then after: she never gained one in all her life, until she met Mencen. While in the likes of growing weak throughout her years, she never ascertained the power she was likely to have when adorning a Catalyst within her body, but she was still highly powerful and deadly all the same. The Walking Dead is what she was named for a short time, seeing as she was dead but yet alive. Mencen worked with mechanics his entire life, mostly alone and secluded from everyone and everything. Aly’vyn was reported to kill the man on spot because he was presumed to be supplying or aiding the humans in their escort throughout Daem, but of course the rumor became a threat at a rapid pace, making it aware and clear to the Revenant society. Aly’vyn was a prized possession, seeing as her rapid growth in power began to spread and weaken her slowly, her mechanical heart killing her from the inside out, and she was unaware of the situation. Mencen previously encountered the beast years ago in his younger days, when he was more of a amateur than he is now; figuring the beast had something cryptic about her, he figured it out later once the two met for a second time, only this time with the intent to kill. Aly’vyn’s fragile, yet temporary, heart soon gave out, causing abrupt collapse and her system to shut down in defense. Unable to provide support like a Catalyst would, her heart crashed, broke and collapsed on her, not being able to sustain the energy and power needed to maintain her body at full performance.

Mencen took note of her dying heart, the realization that she was running on a battery powered mechanism that was slowly killing her. Working for hours on end he managed to create a Catalyst replica that would fit and work properly within Aly’vyn’s body, no shortage or disruption being able to cause the Catalyst to malfunction and die on her. As precious cargo goes, Aly’vyn holds a fairly unique one compared to those whom obtain a Catalyst in their chest (or a Cyst if they’re a Reveille or plagued species). Cysts, however, are corrupted, unstable, and overpowered Catalysts that are adorned in the chests of the infected Revenants called Reveilles or Formers. Infected Vulkuren and Vulkan run in the same genre of the categorized Reveilles, but they’re to be named as Ra’vii and Dy’lycts. Reveilles are more common than infected Vulkuren and Vulkan, seeing as Vulkans tend to die due to increased infection being in their bodies for being so small compared to Revenants and Vulkuren, their Catalysts unable to take the strain and alterations modified to their bodies (internally and externally). Flesh is never to fully engulf a Catalyst: like an infection, flesh within a Revenant’s body will condemn and corrupt the mechanic running their body, slowly making altercations and rendering a whole new, different figure. Reveilles adorn Cysts because their Catalysts are submersed in flesh and bone, the metal being eaten away and replaced with living tissue. The power is generated in the same way a Catalyst would function, but there are delays picked up in their body when it comes to power, strength, and performance. The Catalyst center piece is harvested in the center, veins and tendrils protruding outwards from the circular orb, the infection being contained inside whilst spreading throughout their bodies.

Cysts
Basic Information

Cysts are known for their names, seeing as it is a sac-like infection within their bodies—”a spore-like cell with a resistant, protective wall”, “a cell or cavity enclosing reproductive bodies”, “a sac, usually spherical, surrounding an animal that has passed into a dormant condition.” The Cyst isn’t a formed fluid-filled sac that is found in some animals, but seeing as it acts as a leading infection or cavity within the body, it found nature to its name when falling into corruption and condemned apart from its natural state of being a Catalyst. Like the bodies of the host, the Catalyst can mutate, alter, render, and become reconstructed as well, just like flesh and bone itself. But, however, seeing as the Catalyst is made out of a metal like material that is stronger than diamonds (or any other powerful metallic source known), it holds as a protective barrier that encases the Catalyst center piece, which is obtained energy from an element that can be supported by the Catalyst’s walls and main bordering piece, which is much resembled like an arc reactor (as previously stated). Taking on its own unique features, the Catalyst alone is designed to hold the orb inside the middle, using its energy to pulse throughout the body, managing orders and taking commands from and through the body. A Cyst, in most cases, takes all command and demands the need to feed, to change, alter and mutate as the host grows in the viral infection plaguing its body. The infected Catalyst then produces a poisonous infection that is lead throughout the bodies, knowingly manufacturing an unknown virus that is held in the center cavity of the Catalyst’s core. The Core is the cavity of the Catalyst, seeing as it’s a spherical orb rested in the center with unknown power, besides the power being generated to and from the body. Aly’vyn harvest more power known than any Revenant on Daem, along with Daem’s core. As one believes, Aly’vyn’s Catalyst Core is the core centered at Daem’s heart: which is the center of the planet.

As it is believed in its own mutations, the Cyst becomes an engaged parasite within the demon hosts’s body, making the infection grow more volatile and rapid through the saliva glands and blood stream, making Reveilles and Formers more deadly than what they used to be before the purge of rivalry started, and the infection. The infection or spreading of the virus was nothing new to them, to the accords of when it first began years ago when a foreign Revenant wandered about the Revenant society, grueling with a golden liquid after losing its Vulkan against a ravaged Ry’uuk. The Revenants were unsure about the condition of the contagious Revenant, seeing as they were unaware of what was happening to it, until it went feral and savage, killing and infecting some of the Revenants within the small community. Beyond the outskirts of Necropolis, the small slaughter went off in such short notice, it was happening without aware of other standing communities that lied around the city, which was the formerly known Dardanelles—now the city lies in ruin with plagued Reveilles and Formers taking it as their property. Soon after the mass corruption and carnage, the Revenants stepped in, condemning their own onslaught against the ravaged, infected Formers. Some managed to escaped, leading their own trails of infection elsewhere out of Necropolis bounds, scavenging their home in the dead-lands of Decessus (named after Decessus himself). Cysts are nowhere near compatible when it comes to living tissue, seeing as it is morphed itself around the decaying flesh and bone, hence why Reveilles seemingly look decayed and walking corpses with rotting flesh than being alive.
