I think we all know that Confessionals are my favorite part of the game. But they are also VERY CRUCIAL to the success of every season. Allow me to explain why those who wait until all the way late in the round to write in them is a huge pet peeve of mine. It makes my job around here sooooooooooo much harder. Basically every second of every day that I'm not either asleep (which is not often), or at work or a rehearsal....... I'm online here reading PMs, reading Confessionals, writing my own Confessional, working on "Notables & Quotables," and a myriad of other tasks that take hours upon hours upon hours to maintain so that this whole experience runs smoothly. Here's a peek into the "editing" process. Your Confessionals are basically your TV experience. That is you sneaking off privately to the "camera crew" to explain what is going down from your perspective or what you're working on or whatever you want to express. Some of you keep up with your Confessionals very regularly. And some of you wait until the last possible second to post in there. Here's why it makes my job a thousand times harder: I'm in charge of telling the "story" of every season. And just like on the real show, LOTS of things can happen that just don't end up being part of the storyline because it may be a sub-plot that doesn't really go anywhere. Just like how editors for TV have to go through hours upon hours upon hours of footage to figure out what tells "the story"........ my job around here is actually very similar. Ever wonder why certain characters on the real show get like zero screen time and right about the time they're soon to be voted out........ the majority of the audience doesn't even know that character's name? Yeah, they just weren't part of the story. They couldn't be fit into the narrative. I have that same issue here from season to season if certain characters just don't fit into the story. If there's little info to go on in their Confessional........ they can stay very much in the background of the "edit." And the "episode" is basically over like in the hour or so leading up to a challenge. I simply don't have time to rework things and rewrite things when suddenly a first time entry in that round's Confessional pops up the day of the challenge. That's why I encourage each of you to get thoughts down as the round is playing out. It's not like you have to live in your Confessional. But at least get thoughts down fairly early in the round. And then if other things develop later in the round........ add to it. But if your first post for that round isn't appearing until the day of the challenge........ there's not much I can do to fit this into our "story." I post highlighted "soundbytes" from each character on every round in "Notables & Quotables." But when the majority of the cast are talking about thoughts early in the round....... it just doesn't make sense when I then have to add other people's thoughts that don't even match up with what was being discussed because most are talking about what's going on on Day X........ and then others chime in two days later with what's happening on Day Z. ~ So, that's a brief look into my process and why I always harp on how vital Confessionals are. ~ They are YOUR STORY. So, what will your storyline be? ![]() P.S. I don't need people to post here with whether they've been doing this or not. You all know how active you've been there. ![]() |
