Anya
Historical Information

Anya, stands at an even five-foot six inches high, a slender figured woman with dark brown hair and chilly grey eyes. Though about as stealthy as a mammoth in an apothecary, given a disguise, Anya can blend into most any situation. Part Breton, part Nord, Anya's skin is rather pale, testament to much of her life being spent in the cold Northlands. Anya is quite logical and level-headed, with a sharp eye and good aim. She has a somewhat fiery temper when angered though, perhaps a byproduct of her Destruction training. Her greatest hatred is reserved for the Thalmor.

Born to a Nord blacksmith and a Breton sailor, Anya spent her childhood on a ship with her family, flitting from seaside to seaside between Skyrim, High Rock and Hammerfell, trading goods and teaching young warriors the ways of sword and shield. Until her eighteenth winter, Anya's father taught her what he could about magick and alchemy. The winter after her eighteenth nameday, Anya elected to travel to Skyrim, in order to study the magickal arts at the College of Winterhold.
Most of Anya's skill with weapons came from her mother, a former shieldmaiden who gave up her life of adventure after she suffered a crippling leg wound. From an early age, Anya often snuck out of lessons to watch her mother at the forge. She trained with daggers, sword and shield, though her favoured physical weapon is the bow.

Having a high aptitude for Destruction magick, Anya focused on the skills necessary to incinerate, disintigrate, and freeze unwary opponents during her studies at Winterhold. Though many of her peers dismissed Anya's interest in healing (why would one who could destroy, need to heal?) she kept her study of the Restorative arts to herself, one that would later prove to be instrumental in saving her life.

One evening, returning from the Arcaneum, Anya was accosted by a Thalmor agent present at the College at the time. The Elf insisted she submit to his superiority and 'assume her proper position under Elven supremecy', He supposedly found her less repulsive than the other females at the College, and chose to claim her, a rather delicate way of saying Anya had no say in the matter. Anya took offense to this. When the Thalmor agent attempted to force himself upon her, Anya chose a very effective method of resisting rape. Half of the Hall of Attainment was later found charred and burned, several rooms and countless tomes destroyed. The Thalmor rapist was found among the rubble. With no witnesses present, Anya was turned out of the College and forced to move south.

Angered and burning with shame, Anya stopped once she reached Windhelm. She could not go home after being expelled, nor did she want to try and re-earn the College's trust. Anya stayed in the Grey Quarter for a few weeks, befriending a family of Dunmer who took her under their roof. They listened to her story, and vowed the Thalmor would never find her there. Word of Anya's story began to spread through the Grey Quarter, earning her the moniker "Anya the Unbroken". In return, Anya began to learn about and despise the Dark Elves treatment in the city. As payment for her lodgings, Anya did whatever she could to make life in Windhelm less miserable for the Dunmer. Around the same time, wounded soldiers began to return from patrols across Skyrim. The local's typical Nordic distrust of magick, combined with the fact there was but one alchemist in the city, meant more of the men were dying from ordinarily simple causes. Desperately needing more purpose to fill the void her studies and family had left, Anya threw herself headlong into healing the wounded soldiers who came into Windhelm. Within a month her talent for Restoration had elevated her status in the city, affording her respect, gold, and a house far too big for one person alone, so it was with great gnashing of teeth that the city allowed Anya to turn her new maison into a lodging for her Dunmer surrogates. The guards of the city might make racist remarks toward her, but all agree the city would likely be full of corpses were it not for Anya's skill.
