"Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak."
- Khorus -
Historical Information

Khorus' face is covered by the hood of his robes, and his robes are adorned with his ebony-make armor, including boots, gauntlets, shoulderplates, greaves, and a chestplate, which contains a single black soul gem in the center. His voice is incredibly raspy and light, and if it wasn't such a paradox, some would consider it a loud whisper. He seems to speak in a respectful tone, but he holds mortal life in very little regard.
Born in the years just before the First Empire of Man, Khorus, or rather the man who came before Khorus, began his life as one of the hundreds of slaves to the destructive Ayleids. The rumors were spreading of the wondrous Saint Alessia, the indomitable Pelinel Whitestrake, and the Imga priest Marukh. Khorus' Wild Elven masters strived to suppress the rebellion from ever reaching their city, and in order to reach such a goal, the sacrifices to the Princes grew in number, the ritualistic tortures and murders became increasingly gruesome and nightmarish, and the early Cyrods suffered. Khorus, along with the rest of his tribe, began to release their hatred, however, and stormed the city doors, rushed through each and every room, slaughtering every wild elf in sight. Khorus and his people quickly joined with the Alessian forces, and he personally participated in the storming of the Imperial City. In 1E 243, Saint Alessia was crowned queen, though her reign was short, ending in her death in 1E 366.
After the Queen's death, a religious sect known as the Alessian Order, began to gain a major foothold in the Empire. Their prime directive was to eliminate any elven influence in the Alessian Empire. This included alienation, explulsion, and outright attempts at eradication. However, Khorus, now a middle-aged man, was one of the high priest of one of the more extreme sects within the Order: The Marukhati Selective. The Selective was a rather fanatical sect of the Order, and was dedicated to the goal of disproving that Auri-El and Akatosh were the same deity. However, after several failed attempts, the Selective changed its goal to changing Akatosh to better suit their religious beliefs. Fervidius Tharn, along with High Priest Khorus and others, channeled the Aurbis itself to remove the essence of the Elvish Auriel from the Imperial Akatosh. Each Selective began initiating chants of proper-life to achieve a state of monothought until a staff/tower appeared in front of them that the secret master proceeded to dance upon until it withered, breaking into eight parts and spoke its protonymic. This action created the first Dragon Break, a time warp of monumental proportions. The Magickal pressure such an event released shattered Khorus' body, utterly dissolving it, and sent his soul to wander the void.
As all souls do when they wander the void with no anchor, Khorus was eventually claimed by the Soul Cairn, a pocket of Oblivion where souls commonly trapped by soul gems, end up. A land of Bonemen, Wrathmen, and other nightmarish creatures of Oblivion, the Souk Cairn was ruled over by the Ideal Masters, which by all accounts seem to be giant sentient crystals in the sky. There, Khorus wandered for what seemed to be an eternity, unaware of the happenings back on Nirn for ages. However, an eternity later, the Soul Cairn was visited by the Daedric Prince of Schemes and Domination, Molag Bal. He intended to barter with the Ideal Masters, who viewed souls as nothing more than currency, in order to fill his ranks among his Soulshriven, who lacked any real leadership outside of the Dremora, whom were now intended to make war upon the mortal realm in an event known as the Planemeld. Molag Bal needed powerful, willful souls, and cut a deal with the Ideal Masters, the negotiations of which are lost to time. However, as the Ideal Masters are known to do, each soul that was meant to be transferred was cut by a fraction, enough essence left to seem intact, but also enough essence to anchor down the souls, and force them to return to the Cairn. Of course, as is popular knowledge, one cannot out-scheme the God of Schemes. Molag Bal was aware of this deception, but if the Planemeld was successful, it was little consequence to him what happened to the mortal souls.
Thus, Khorus, among other willful souls, was sent to the Daedric Realm of Coldharbour, a cold, desolate, and hopeless plane of Oblivion, which completely mirrored Nirn, except with more death and decay. If souls were able to shed tears, Khorus would have cried at the sight of the White-Gold Tower. Khorus' soul was transferred into one of the Soul Shriven, and was trained by the Kyn in warfare: Magic, Swordsmanship, and other essential tools needed for a powerful warrior. However, his newfound purpose would never see light. The Planemeld was stopped by unknown forces, though all believed the traitor Mannimarco had something to do with it. Now, the Master had the King of Worms tortured endlessly, his screams of anguish never ceasing. So, Molag Bal waited, regaining his strength, and the strength of his armies. He decided that he needed a new general, someone strong enough to replace, perhaps even surpass, the Necromancer. Dremora were too risky, and the Fighter's Guild proved that even the battle-hardened Kyn have grave weaknesses, and their bodies need time to regrow, while their souls wander the waters of Oblivion. No, he needed something greater.
Thus, a tournament was held among his Soulshriven. A Tournament of Body, Mind, and Soul. For days, his chosen combatants fought in the arena, both against each other, and against the Kyn, the Mazken, and other creatures born of the darkness. After the trial of combat, the chosen were taken to the Halls of Torment, where they lingered for days, tortured in the most cruel, painful, and gruesome ways. The last one to survive without giving up was Khorus, bound by his pride, his will, and his inability to give up when he had come so far. His rage, not only for the Ayleids, whom he blamed for the shattering of his mortal body and the damnation of his soul, but also for the Ideal Masters, whom he despised the thought of having a shred of his soul, like they were the real masters over him. He wanted revenge, and to get that revenge, he needed power. Thus, he lived on, surviving.
Molag Bal had essentially chosen his champion, though the Trial of the Soul would be the final decider. Soulshriven bodies, Bal learned, were sturdy, yes, but they lacked the mobility and strength he desired for his champion. His thoughts went back to the Vestige, the champion of Akatosh whom had managed to land a blow on the Prince of Schemes. He remembered the Vestige himself being in the early stages of the Soul Shriven, which meant that a soul gem was also tied to the mortal, and that Mannimarco had seen the gem, studied it, and found a great deal of intrigue over the gem's constant self-reshaping. This tie to a gem, which ultimately led to the Vestige not carrying a mortal soul on the majority of his campaign, meant that the mortal was able to revive his body through the use of filled soul gems. He then thought back to the ancient Dwemer, whose constructs still filled their empty halls to this day. These constructs were powered with soul gems, giving them life, and motor function, with some semblance of sentience, knowing whom to attack and whom not. Thus, the final test was underway. The Trial of the Soul, the final trial of the Tournament, would be the transfer of the soul's placed in the Soulshriven bodies, into soul gems of significant strength, and then placed in armor of the wielder's choice. If successful, the soul gems would fill the lifeless armor, and give it full sentience, full motor function, and limitless capabilities. However, the drawback was if the soul gem was destroyed. With the shred of Soul left in the Soul Cairn, Molag Bal's efforts would be useless if his champion was defeated. Thus, he cut up more portions of his prospective champions' souls, and placed them in separate gems, eight in total, minus the one placed in the armor, for each prospect. Then, when everything was ready, the process began.
Twenty entered the process, and only Khorus remained intact. Molag Bal had done it. Khorus' armor design of choice was the superior craftsmanship of the Ayleids, whom even though he despised, he would respect their craft. Thus, his simple, yet sturdy, black cloak was added unto by various armor pieces, with the soul gem carrying the majority of Khorus' soul in the center of the chestplate. He also chose a sword of Ayleid ebony, and personally oversaw the creation of his magnificent blade.
However, by the time Molag Bal had regained his full strength, Martin Septim, the bastard child of the late Uriel Septim VII, sacrificed himself in a battle with the Prince's brother, Mehrunes Dagon, and permanently lit the Dragonfires through the powers of Chim-el Adabal. Thus, Khorus' training was extended, for how long, he is not certain. He was instructed in the art of Soul Magic, along with the schools of Destruction, Restoration Wards, and the conjuring of the fierce forces of Coldharbour. His training was endless, until one day, Molag Bal summoned him. The Dragonborn, a mighty warrior with the soul of a dragon, had slain the great dragon Alduin, the firstborn son of Akatosh, the Dragon God of Time. As such, a large portion of Akatosh's power was found in the mighty tyrant of a beast, and when he was slain in the Aetherial plane of Sovngard, Akatosh's power weakened, for a time. The Dragonfires waned, and would wane for some time. Now, now was the time to strike. Molag Bal instructed his champion to ready himself, and prepare the forces of Coldharbour. This would take some time, of course, because the forces of Coldharbour are not always easily commanded. On top of which, the God of Schemes wished to see if the other Princes would dare make a move. Three years came and went, and Molag Bal's patience finally faded away. The time had come.
