(Open to two other characters.)

The last thing he thought he would see is the flash of steel as it curved down, ready to take his life.

There was indeed a flash, but not from the setting sun reflecting off the blade of his enemy. No, this flash of light consumed his form, along with that of his companion. As reflex, he covers his eyes with his forearms, trying to fight off this sudden intrusion of brightness.

However, the light quickly fades, and the man uncovers his eyes, revealing bright, clear skies. His nose is filled with the scents of the ocean. One of his hands drop down to the earth, feeling the soft, yet gritty texture of sand.

"What?" Pushing himself into a sitting position, the man gazes at the vista that lay before him. This wasn't the battlefield that he was just on. What had transpired?

The Golden Ronin stands, disoriented. Kogane Kensei was lost.

Other than Twilight Town, Destiny Islands was another world that Sorin had wanted to visit. It was just a nice world and looked like a great place to go and relax and he decided to do just that after all the training he did back in Deep Jungle. He managed to learn about what Magigiri could do but it really brought up Sorin's biggest weakness. As a swordsman, Sorin was still extremely lacking. Against a skilled magic user, Sorin wasn't fast enough to use Magigiri to protect himself. Unfortunately there was only so much Sorin could do with his self training. He needed at least some guidance to improve.

Sorin sighed as he kept walking but stopped when he spotted someone on the beach. Someone in samurai armor. Sorin's eyes widened for a second as he walked over to him. "Are you alright?" Sorin asked as he kept his hands visible. At the moment there was no way Sorin could take on a trained samurai.

(Takes place after "Deep Silent Complete")

Another was on the island that day, away from the swordsman and the samurai. Instead, she was in the Secret Place (though not so secret anymore, considering she was there), training herself a little more. This time, she was practicing more with the rapier half of her weapon, the Dreamweaver.

Audrey Crowe was a lot more confident in her abilities than she had been before. Before she came to this island, she and Haru had taken down a Storm Rider of all things, with her delivering the final shot. Even now, she still couldn't believe it, couldn't believe she could take down a dragon, of all things. But, either way, that was enough motivation for her to keep improving herself, to prove that she could take care of herself.

"You can't do it, Audrey."

No, Ignazio. I
can do this.

Though training with the rapier half of her bowsword was somewhat different, she had fared better than she did when trying out a normal sword. The rapier was different, as it was light and thin, the tip being where it drew its strength. For her, however, the sides were still sharp, allowing for effective slices as well as stabs. She tried holding it against her shoulder, overhead, and to her side before settling for the latter. Though she was more effective with slashes, when she tried for a stab, she stumbled, almost falling over before getting her balance back. That was something she needed to work on.

After a while, she decided to take a break and relax. Being from one of the inner states back home, she rarely ever visited an actual beach, not counting the makeshift one by the lake she used to go to. To be on an actual beach, feeling the salty air and hearing the ocean pull in and out, was practically a new experience for her. She wished she had a swimsuit to go out in, but relaxing by the surf wasn't so bad, either.

So, Audrey made her way out of the Secret Place, unaware of the new arrival and a familiar visitor already on the beach.

Hearing words being spoken in another tongue, a Western tongue, Kensei turns around to find another there. This one was younger than he, he guessed, and his garb was something he had not really seen much of. Perhaps it was some new style of Western clothing?

"Where am I?" Grabbing a hold of the young man's arm with the hand that held his Oni Gauntlet, Kensei speaks in his native tongue. Coughing, he steps back clutching his dou, or chest armor. His prior battle's injuries were beginning to be felt. Stumbling, he drops back down to the sand, trying to catch his breath.

Well this was going to be more difficult than Sorin originally thought. This was the first time he's had to deal with someone speaking a different language and it made Sorin think that everyone was going to speak English due to the Convergence. Of course it turns out not to be true. Still it looked like the samurai was injured so Sorin got out some of his first aid supplied.

He had Potions but also normal things like bandages and such for when he ran out of Potions or when they weren't necessary. "Here. Let me help you." Sorin said as he showed the samurai the bandages and things. It was probably going to be easier to use the Potion directly on the wound rather than trying to get him to actually drink it.

As soon as Audrey stepped out onto the beach, she caught sight of the two figures not too far away. One of them was in armor, like that of a samurai's, seeming to be injured. Though part of her was about to go and try to help, she saw someone else already taking that opportunity. And that someone turned out to be Sorin Luca, the first person she met since escaping from Silent Hill.

She froze up, almost turned to run and hide back in the Secret Place. She remembered when he tried to help her, how she ran off without a word the minute she found that Ignazio was out in the worlds possibly searching for her. For that, she felt that he would be angry with her, or wouldn't try to help like he did before.

But, she remembered Haru telling her that he was worried about her, wanted to make sure she was safe. That part of her told her that if she stepped closer, let him know that she was alright, that she had something to defend herself with and was trained, even killing a dragon with it, he would be relieved. Hiding away wouldn't do any good, especially if they would think an enemy was stalking them. She had to get over this fear, this uncertainty of being rejected if she needed to move forward.

It seemed killing that Storm Rider really did make her braver than she had ever been.

With this, Audrey moved closer to the two, ringing her fingers together nervously. "U-um...hey there," she greeted, still as unsure as always. "I-is there something wrong?"

Wincing, Kensei reaches for the ties that bound the chest plate to him. Pulling at them, the armor falls off of him, allowing him to breathe a little easier. Yet, he finds one particular wound, nestled underneath his left armpit, that was of concern. It was gashed open, with blood beginning to tint his tunic.

Looking down on the sand next to the young man, he takes note of the items. Bandages of some kind, meant to bind up the wound... but what of the glass container filled with liquid? Was it some kind of Western medicine that would help the healing process?

However, before his thoughts go any farther, Kensei hears another voice. Looking past the young man, he sees a young woman. A bit timid, but he could guess at the deeper levels of power that lay within her. Slapping the young man's leg a few times, he points towards the young woman.

Sorin frowned slightly at the sight of the man's wounds. They looked rather bad from what Sorin could tell and he wasn't really good at judging these kinds of things. Still it was a good thing he was here to help out as a Potion was going to be able to do more than just bandages. Sorin was about to crouch down and start when he heard a voice and the man slapped his leg.

Sorin's eyes widened when he saw Audrey. She was the last person he had expected to see. There was something different about Audrey. It was nothing physical but even though she seemed shy and timid it felt like it was less than what she was like in Radiant Garden. "Audrey..." Sorin said before realizing he had more important things to deal with.

"He's injured. He also speaks what sounds like Japanese so we can't understand each other. I have some bandages and Potions so help me out taking care of him."

Audrey looked down when Sorin looked to her, still embarrassed to face him again. She ran off without a word, and from what Haru said before, it was likely he knew exactly why now. As it was, there was nothing to hide from him anymore, nothing to really say to him.

However, instead of focusing on her personal problems, she nodded when Sorin explained the situation, walking over to help out. Even though this man spoke a different language from them, she'd still try her best. If there was one thing she learned from Silent Hill, it was learning how to properly use first-aid kits, as opposed to just selecting it to heal the character.

As she stepped over to the wounded man, she first removed her bowsword from her being, placing it down on the sand, along with her quiver of arrows. She then held up her hands to show that she was unarmed. "I-I'm not an enemy," she said slowly, even if the man wouldn't understand her. "I-I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to help as much as I can."

With that, the girl picked up a Potion, figuring they would use this before patching him up. She opened it up, about to pour it onto one of the man's wounds. "Th-this might sting a little..." As gently as she could, she slowly poured the contents of the Potion onto the wound.

Kensei hisses as the liquid is poured over his wound. It stung even more than it originally did... but soon that stinging sensation dulls away, bringing forth a feeling of warmth from the wound. He looks down and gazes in awe as the wound begins to heal itself, a pale green light shining within the gash, flesh mending together, until nothing of it remains. And his other wounds, his bruises, likewise are covered in that same warming sensation.

Part of him wonders if this was nothing more than a hallucination. However, as he gets to his feet, he realizes that this was no such thing. It was magic. Touching the place where the gash was, he feels no wound, no sign that he was ever harmed. Turning to the two young people, his hands come together in front of his face as he bows to them. Then, in halting English, he responds. "Thank you." It was one of the few phrases he learned to say in such a foreign tongue.

Kneeling back down, he grabs at his chestplate, and with a breath, hefts it back onto him. He couldn't tie it closed, however. He let Shogi do that.

And with a start, he realized what was wrong. He could somewhat understand the two young people, but if she were around, he would have understood them completely, as they would understand him. "Shogi? Shogi!?" Gazing around the small island, his fist clenches. "Where have you gone, Shogi? What has happened?"

Even though he spoke in his native tongue, the name came through clearly to the two youths.

Sorin was pleasantly surprised to see that one Potion was all that it took to heal the samurai. He had the bandages out just in case there was something left that needed them but looks like one Potion was all it took. Sorin got to his feet and bowed slightly to the samurai as he thanked him. "You're welcome." Sorin said with a small smile. Even if it was only a small phrase it was nice to know that he had a small idea about how to speak English.

Sorin was going to turn to Audrey to talk to her, ask her how she had been since Radiant Garden. That is until the samurai started shouting something and Sorin could clearly hear a name in it. "Looks like he's missing someone." Sorin commented mostly to himself.

"We can help you look for your friend." Sorin told the samurai hoping he could understand what he was offering.

Audrey gave a bow of her own when the samurai said his thanks. Really, she was glad that it just took one Potion to help; even though she knew how to use bandages after her experience, it would have been awkward to try and apply them on a total stranger.

That said, she listened when he started calling out from something. Even though she couldn't understand him, she could make out one word being spoken, and also figured it was a name. An ally of his, by any chance? Though she was pessimistic that they might be here, she didn't want to be the bringer of bad news. Plus, it would help distract her from her personal issues. Instead, she gave her own offer to help.

"Y-yeah...we can help you search for them," she said, making a gesture to signify "searching," hoping that was enough to get through.

Gazing at the two youths, Kensei somewhat understands them. They wanted to aid him in finding Shogi. Once again, he bows to them and repeats, in his halting English, his thanks. Pausing, he tries to find the words to explain just who and what Shogi is. "Shogi is... Tengu. Ally. Friend. Guide." Pressing his fingertips to his forehead, hidden just beneath his helmet, he continues. "She is..." He taps his forehead a few times, trying to find the right word. "Important."

Feeling a warmth from his right hand, he gazes at it. His Oni Gauntlet, his magic power from the Oni, was awake, the small jeweled sphere in the gauntlet's socket rotates, as the jewel's cover moves, taking on the look of a blinking eye. There was only one reason why his Oni Gauntlet would awaken. "Danger."

Sorin had some knowledge about what a Tengu is from the shows he watched back home but he wasn't sure if it applied to whatever world the samurai was from. Still since he considered this Shogi a friend then Sorin was going to do what he could to help find her. That is, if she was even on this world or was even taken off her world in the first place. Sorin was hoping that wasn't the case as the samurai really seemed to care about her.

However once the samurai's gauntlet was moving and he declared that there was danger around Sorin quickly drew Magigiri, ignoring whatever effect it was going to have on Audrey or the samurai. It was an unfortunate side effect but this was the only way Sorin could fight. "What do you think, Heartless Nobodies or something else?" Sorin asked mostly to Audrey.

Audrey also had an idea what a Tengu was, but not from any shows she's watched. Rather, it was from random research she had done at one point, factoring into her love for ravens and crows. That said, she also didn't know if this Shogi was the same as what she'd read about, but if she was important to this samurai, she'd keep as much of a lookout as she could.

However, the minute he declared danger, Audrey tensed up, not just because of Sorin drawing Magigiri, but at the natural reaction to a possible attack. Even with the jump in confidence, there was still that little bit of uncertainty, the horrifying memories of her previous monster encounters. However, unlike before, she didn't cower or look for a place to hide. Instead, she picked up the Dreamweaver and her quiver, changing her bowsword to its bow form for the time being. As she pulled back an arrow at the ready, she replied back to Sorin, "I don't know, but I'm hoping it's just normal enemies..."

Moving towards his dropped katana, Kensei grabs it and moves back towards the two youths. Seeing the shadows move, he sees the emergence of an unknown kind of creature, black as ink, small in stature, with unnaturally large yellow eyes. What sort of creature was it? Some new kind of Genma? No, this thing had to be different. It didn't even look to be dangerous. But yet, his Oni Gauntlet's eye continues to gaze at the creature.

As soon as one appears, so comes another, and another, and yet another, until a half-dozen stand there upon the sands shores. Tensly gripping his blade, Kensei watches them. Overhead, he hears a screech... a familiar screech. Looking up, his grip upon his sword tightens even more. Overhead, a flock of small leathery winged creatures fly in, a mixture of lizard and bird. "Barthahs."

Shadows were kind of expected from Sorin at this point. They were the most common type of Heartless after all and usually weak compared to whatever other Heartless appeared yet they apparently were the only kind that was showing up. To make up for it was the strange demon birds.

Sorin grit his teeth at these Barthahs their samurai ally called them. He didn't recognize them or their name but they seemed to be from his world. "I'll keep the Heartless off of you two. You take care of the Barthahs. "

Sorin had no real effective way to fight the demon birds. Audrey's bow would be effective and since the samurai recognized them he probably had a way to fight them as well. So Sorin would take care of the things he could do which was dealing with the Shadows.

Sorin charged right in and sliced through one Shadow. Even after he finished that first swing, he already was moving to cut through a second Shadow. If Kensei was watching Sorin he probably could tell despite how well Sorin was doing he was still an amateur. Sorin wasn't going to let that hold him back though. He jumped back to avoid the jump of a Shadow but his blade went through its head once it landed.

Even if he couldn't take on the Barthahs, he could still do this.

The minute Audrey saw the Barthahs come into view, she was immediately reminded of Air Screamers. Strangely enough, despite the reminder, she wasn't as afraid as she thought she would be. It could be her newfound confidence talking, but she felt that she could take them on.

Nodding to Sorin when he said he would handle the Heartless, Audrey trained an arrow on one of the demon birds, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. That moment came when, at once, the flock dived down at them, ready to impale them with their sharp beaks. Keeping her focus on the one in the front, she fired the arrow...

...only for it to completely miss, just barely grazing past the demon. They were still coming down on them, at a fast pace. Just as quickly as Audrey's confidence had dropped, in fact.

Panic beginning to rise once more, Audrey hurriedly pulled out another arrow, shakily pulling it back. Unfortunately, the arrow wasn't fired properly this way, only flinging a ways before her. As she was beginning to freak out, a Barthahs had neared her, about to take her out. With a small shriek, she fell to her last resort and just swiped the bow right at it, the bladed edges cutting through and doing some damage. Though it was enough to keep it away, it wasn't enough to kill it.

Just as quickly as she felt sure of herself, she was beginning to slip back to her old ways.

As it was, Kensei stood beside Audrey. Seeing her trouble with the creatures, he sheathes his katana and reaches for his lower back. Pulling, he unstraps a bow of his own, and quickly reaching into a quiver nestled onto his back, he extracts an arrow and notches it on the bowstring, pulling it back. A sense of calmness flows over him, as he recalls the teachings that he learned growing up. The bow was more than a weapon, it was a tool of art. And with any art, inspiration can strike suddenly.

Without concern, he lets loose the arrow, seeing it fly straight and true. It pierces the head of one of the Barthahs, causing the demonic flier to screech and fall, its body dissipating in a wet crimson cloud, leaving behind small red and blue orbs floating in mid-air. Tensing his right hand, the Oni Gauntlet upon Kensei's arm generates a small vortex. The orbs are pulled into the vortex, and enter into the eye of the Gauntlet.

Seeing that the things were coming in close, he replaces bow with blade, once more drawing his katana. Grabbing Audrey by the arm, he pulls her to the side, allowing the creatures to dive-bomb into the sandy beach. They strike the ground, and Kensei dashes to them, his blade cutting into their leathery flesh. A few are able to fly back into the air, but an equal amount are brutally cut, causing them to likewise dissipate into that crimson cloud, leaving more red and blue orbs. The vortex re-activates, as the orbs are once more drawn in.

"Audrey!" Sorin called out as he saw Audrey go from firing confidently to going back like she was when they were fighting in Radiant Garden. This distraction caused a couple of the remaining Shadows strike him from behind. Sorin growled as he swung his blade and cut through one of them right through the head. The only turned into a actual shadow so Sorin turned his attention to the other one. He charged in again and a quick combo of slashes destroyed it just in time for the last one to reappear. All alone it wasn't a threat and dispatched quickly.

That left the demon birds. Sorin had saw how the samurai protected Audrey and destroyed many of them. Sorin watched as they circled around again, seemingly ignoring how the samurai destroyed several of them so easily. Soon they dive bombed the trio again, Sorin stood his ground and waited until they got close before moving away. It wasn't the perfect dodge as he stumbled a little as he got back up but he charged in and managed to cut through one of them.

Audrey heard Sorin call for her, watched as the Shadows struck him in his distractions. This was bad; not only was she doing horrible again, but she was getting her friend hurt for it. She thought she could do this, thought she could help take them down--

Just as she was about to relapse into self-loathing, she watched Kensei unstrap a bow, drawing back an arrow calmly. When the arrow was fired, she took note of his focus on the demons, how he fired without concern. It was clear that he was more experienced with a bow than she was. She said nothing as the samurai pulled her to the side, just looking down at the Dreamweaver while the two went about dispatching their enemies.

She thought she did the same thing. She thought she focused in on her target, thought she would take it down. She took down an Illuminator and a Storm Rider with her bow; how come she was having trouble...

She trailed the thought there. Of course, she didn't take down two boss Heartless with normal arrows. During that fight, she had conjured up arrows of her imagination, let them hit their targets as she saw fit. It was because that's how she wanted it to be, not because of any skill she had. She was only trained in her arm strength for a proper bow, not in how to use one.

For that, she knew she had to find a way to train as a proper archer. As of now, though, she couldn't let her inexperience get in the way. Even if she wasn't as skilled as she thought it was, she can't start thinking she was useless again.

With that, as the last of the Bathahs came dive bombing again, Audrey decided to do something different. Pressing the groove on the handle of her bow, she switched the Dreamweaver into a rapier, stepping out of the way before the demon birds could impale their beaks into her. With them on the ground, she slashed the thin blade at one and made to stab at another. Although she fumbled slightly, she managed to impale the demon bird on the spot, killing it easily.

Watching the last of the Barthahs fall, Kensei continues to trigger his Oni Gauntlet, watching as more of the orbs are pulled in, many of them red, and a few that are blue. Seeing no more of the orbs, the vortex from the Gauntlet's eye disappears. Yet, the eye continued to move. There were more enemies? The shadowy beings were destroyed, and all the Barthahs were slain... What else was there?

Seeing a small black portal open up over the sands, another monstrous figure appears, a large lizard-like beast, clad in armor and wielding a gigantic mace. However, what was in it's weaponless hand is what mostly caught Kensei's attention: A glowing light, amber in color, and the sound of vain attempts of trying to break free. "Shogi!"

If one cared to listen, you could tell a distinct difference in the voice. This wasn't a voice that was hampered by a foreign tongue. It sounded... natural, albeit concerned.

Sorin let out a small sigh of relief now that the enemies had been taken care of. He was glad that Audrey was fine though the fact that her bow turned into a rapier was pretty interesting. However things were never really that easy for them as soon another monster showed up, much bigger than the others. He heard the samurai call out and from the sounds of it, his friend was caught by the monster. Of course his friend had to be on the small side but that didn't matter right now.

Sorin tensed up as he watched the creature. It's size and the mace would be a huge problem for Sorin. This was the kind of thing he dreaded fighting as Magigiri's power would be useless against it. They did have to take it out though, so Sorin went in, trying to keep out of the monsters sight and went low, targeting its unarmored legs.

Audrey let out a sigh of her own as the enemies fell, not out of relief, but rather in disappointment in herself. This battle was an eye-opener for her to find a way to improve herself as an archer. That samurai could probably help her, if it weren't for the issues with his language. Speaking of the samurai, she saw that he didn't look relaxed even after they defeated the Heartless and Barthahs. What was...

She got her answer when she saw the portal opening up, immediately took to a stance. When she saw the large reptilian beast, she did her best not to panic like she would normally, didn't freeze up to any returning memories. The appearance didn't frighten her, nor did the size or even the mace. It was her realization to her inexperience that made her worried, uncertain that she could do anything to help take it down.

But then she took notice of two things. The first was Kensei calling out for Shogi, whom seemed to be captured by this beast. Indeed, she took notice of the difference in his tone, heard the shout as "Shogi" rather than "Sho-gi." The other she noticed was Sorin tensing up at this creature. After seeing him so calm and collected, seeing him dreading this fight was something she had not expected from him at all.

However, seeing him charge in reminded her that she had to help as much as she could. So, taking a deep breath, she changed the Dreamweaver back into a bow, pulling the bowstring with nothing in it.

"Don't worry, I-I'll save your friend," she said to the samurai first, looking to him briefly. "I know I'm not as experienced as you, but I can do this."

She put her focus back on the monster, focusing as hard as she could into her weapon. The pink mist of her magic appeared, taking form in her grip on the string. It formed an arrow made of the mist, and she took aim for the enemy's weaponless hand, the one holding this Shogi prisoner. Then, with another breath, hoping for this shot to hit true, she fired.

Kensei rears back. This was a Gorr Genma, one of the more dangerous types. One of the few that made him pause and take consideration at the attacks to be taken. The demonic entity proves this quite readily with an overhead smash of its mace onto the sand in front of it, intending to crush the young man who was cutting at the thing's tough hide. However, it roars in pain as the lady's mystical arrow flies true, striking it's open hand, releasing the tiny Tengu, who drops into the sand.

Reaching once more to his back, Kensei pulls out the last of his weapons... The Blade of Bishimonten. His fallen lord's blade. The eye of his Gauntlet shines as the blade glows a vibrant blue, as sparks begin to bridge between each of the barbs that jutted out from the weapon's edges. Tightly gripping the weapon, he dashes towards the Gorr, before unleashing slash after slash of magical lightning-empowered sword swipes, each one causing a small cascade of lightning to cascade around the creature's hide. One upward swipe brings the blade up over Kensei's head, which he soon finishes with a massive downward slash, bringing with it a cloud and a small bolt of lightning dropping onto the Genma's head. The creatures bellows one last time, before falling onto its back, and disappearing into a crimson cloud.
