(Open to two others.)

His thoughts dwell back on his student. Sorin had spent such time learning the ways of the sword. But, he learned quickly. That alone was enough to give Kogane Kensei a sense of satisfaction. However, he also knew that, like one's body, one's skill must constantly be tested and trained. So, with aid from his Tengu guide, the Ronin had found this place. It seemed all the more foreign to him than the prior world. That one had some similarities to his home. But this place was so far removed from the fields of battle that he called home. And yet, this place was offered to be the greatest field of battle: A place where you could fight to your content, without any lasting consequence.

Stepping onto the floor, he hears the hollow echo of the area with each step, and bears witness to the great sheen that showed upon the area, the whole of it shimmering like the sun upon polished steel.

"Kensei, are you really sure about this?" Fluttering around him, the Tengu Shogi looks around. "It's so... barren." However, getting a curt nod from Kensei, she grows silent, insteand just standing on his shoulder.

March 5
11:30 p.m.
Wright Anything Agency

Phoenix Wright put down the file he had been reading and stretched in his office chair.

(*Yawn*... I really hate paperwork... I guess that's just what happens when you're the boss with actual people working under you.)

His co-workers, Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes, were probably at their own homes, happily snoring away, while he was left here to look over their latest case. They had been making good progress so far, and he was confident they could handle the trial well so far. Apollo's perception abilities and Athena's analytical psychology should come in handy for that particular witness... he put the case file down as he saw a familiar sight... crawling through the room.

"Trucy? You're still awake?"

His adopted daughter look up from her position on the floor.

"Yup! I've been practicing some of my magic tricks... have you seen those big rings I use?"

(If they were so big, how did you lose them easily? I hope I won't have to buy another set...)

But he kept this to himself, and stood up. He needed something to distract him from the boring files, anyways. "No, but I'll help you look for them. Now, let's just retrace your steps. Where was the last place you left them?"

Trucy stood, and put a hand to her chin. "Hm... Oh, I think I know!" She ran excitedly to the end of the room, and triumphantly picked up the set of large, connected rings, from where they had been sitting slightly hidden by Charley the Plant, next to the broom closet. "Thanks, Daddy! You really put those investigation skills of yours to work helping me find my rings!"

"Um... well, thanks..." (It wasn't really that difficult...)

"Hey, wanna see me take them apart?"

"Sure." But Phoenix stopped as he felt something odd. "...But do you feel a draft?" His daughter shook her head. Strangely, it seemed to be coming from the broom closet. Wright pressed his ear to the door, and thought he heard something strange from the other side. (What on earth...) He put his hand on the knob, turned, and opened. And what he saw was beyond surprising.

"T-T-TRUCY!"

Trucy jumped. "Wh-what is it, Daddy?!"

"WHAT IS THIS AND WHY IS IT IN OUR BROOM CLOSET?!"

Trucy scrunched in next to Phoenix in the doorway, and was just as surprised as he was. On the other side was some strange, metallic landscape, with neon lights on the floor, walls, or simply hanging in the air. Colorful stars were above them, almost like they were outside...

"Wow!" Trucy exclaimed. She then marched confidently through the door, grabbing Phoenix's hand and dragging him with her. "We've gotta check this out! It looks so beautiful!"

"More like dangerous! It looks like a totally... different... world..."

And then it hit him.

(Not again!)

After his encounter with Owens, Scott was in a bad mood. The idea that someone that was from the Realm of Reality like himself could go around and do things like he had done just pissed Scott off. Unfortunately he managed to escape and he left Cheryl and Riku, he needed to work off some steam. He heard a bit about this place and it sounded perfect. Heck even if he was lucky then maybe he could use the simulation thing to fight against Worms. If he could get more experience fighting them it would help.

As he stepped out Scott couldn't help but blink at the already odd assortment of people that were already there. There was a samurai with a little winged girl, an older man in a suit with a young girl magician. He did recognize the man in the suit though as Phoenix Wright though he didn't recognize the girl as he had only played the original three games so she seemed like a character that was introduced later.

"Well this is pretty strange party." Scott couldn't help but comment.

Turning around to the sounds of others arriving, Kensei pauses to take a look at them. A younger man, close to his age, but obviously from the West, with a strange taste in clothing (in comparison to his 16th Century preferences). The others were a young woman, still in her early years (perhaps no older than 16 years of life), with her own strange taste in garb; and standing along side her is another man with strange Western clothing, older than himself.

He did not expect to have company in this strange place made for battle. But, nevertheless, he bows to the three of them, showing that, for the moment, he holds no ill will towards them, but instead a sense of respect, especially towards the elder amongst them. "I did not expect to find others who would travel here. But as you are here now, I shall not turn you away out of spite. Instead, I, Kogane Kensei, welcome you to join me in my attempt to better myself."

"Are you sure, Kensei?" Shogi flies around the three people. "They really don't seem to be the fighting types..."

"Perhaps, Shogi. But, I leave it to their discretion if they wish to join me in my training."

Phoenix put out a protective arm, keeping his adopted daughter slightly behind him as they explored the strange place they had found themselves in. It wasn't too long before they ran into a young man (he looked a few of years older than Trucy) and, an even stranger sight, a man about the same age wearing what looked like samurai armor and carrying some very real and very sharp looking blades. Luckily, he seemed like a decent man by how he addressed them, even if the way he talked was strange.

(Then again, everything about this place is strange...)

Phoenix didn't quite understand what he meant by "bettering" himself, though the conversation with the strange... fairy, for lack of a better word (and he hadn't noticed her sooner because of her size), revealed what he meant.

"Ah... no, no thank you. I'm just a lawyer, not some sort of... samurai..." Then again, he knew there were lawyers that were also samurai...

(I wonder if he could exchange some tips with Prosecutor Blackquill.)

But then Trucy perked up at the sight of the three others, strange as they may be.

"Oh, I know what could help!"

She did a little twirl, her cape fluttering, and raised a wand into the air.

"It's Trucy Wright's impromptu magic show!"

Phoenix was a little less enthusiastic. "Trucy... are you sure now's a good time for this!"

She pouted that pout that no good father could ignore. The one with the big puppy dog eyes. "But Daddy, they've never seen some classic Gramarye magic! I'm just trying to enrich their lives with some mysticism and illusion!"

"Uh... right... I guess that's fine..."

She gave Phoenix a big hug. "Thanks Daddy! Okay, for my first trick..."

She did another twirl, and as her cape fluttered again, something folded out from behind her. It was a large wooden puppet, far too large to be reasonably hidden under her cape, and instead of a lower half it had a series of levers that went behind Trucy's back. It wore a cape similar in style to Trucy's, a black tuxedo top, a bow tie, and as it twirled, one of its arms stole Trucy's top hat and put it on its own head.

"It's the Amazing Mr. Hat!" Trucy exclaimed, putting a hand on her hip. Mr. Hat's mouth moved and it spoke.

"Hey hey hey! It's Mr. Hat! I'll be here all week!"

"I'm up for that. It's why I'm here in the first place. My name is Scott Carter by the way." Scott said as he waved to the group. He really wasn't expecting Phoenix Wright and the girl to join them. He was a bit surprised to hear her call herself Trucy Wright. He really needed to have played the rest of the games as Scott really wondered when Phoenix got a daughter. He wasn't going to really ask about it since it would be rude and would be a bit awkward so for now he would keep it to himself.

As Trucy did her little magic show he clapped a bit. It was a bit impressive as a trick compared to the actual magic he has seen since being affected by the Great Convergence. "That's pretty cool." Scott said trying to be polite.

Watching the young lady's impromptu act, Shogi claps enthusiastically. Even though she was a creature that held great magic of her own, it always amused her greatly to see ordinary people do their own version of magic. "Wow, that's amazing! How are you able to bring him out?" Fluttering around Trucy, she looks around. "There's not really any place you can put him..."

Kensei nods at Trucy's trick as well, lightly clapping. It was a good trick, made even more impressive with the size of her puppet. "A fine talent, kind lady."

Mr. Hat swatted lightly at Shogi as the little fairy flew around the magician girl and her puppet, though not with any attempt to harm. The puppet put its hands on its 'hips' angrily.

"Hey little lady, I like being looked up like any other guy, but...!"

Trucy finished the sentence for Mr. Hat.

"A magician never reveals her tricks!"

Mr. Hat tossed the top hat he wore up into the air as he spun, his cape wrapping around him, and folded back into Trucy's cape. Trucy caught the hat, and bowed with a flourish. Phoenix himself clapped and laughed for his daughter. He had to have seen the trick a hundred times at this point, but he still looked impressed, and full of pride.

"Great job as usual." He said, rubbing Trucy's hair affectionately before she put her hat back on.

"Thanks, Daddy! I'm just glad they enjoyed it."

Phoenix smiled, but put his hand to his chin, thinking. "Now that our magic show is over, I guess we should figure out where we are, or why we're here. Do any of you know?" He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. "We just sort of walked out here from our... broom closet." He pointed behind them, to where the door they had walked through was simply sitting upright on the floor, no frame or room behind it.

(At least I've calmed down now... though I'm not sure if it's good or bad that I'm used to this sort of thing now...)

"This place is called the Mirage Arena. It's a place where people like me and the samurai can safely go to train. It's like a virtual reality kind of thing. I guess I'm not entirely sure about how it works. Though how you got here from your world...well it is rather complicated." Scott said a bit awkwardly. It as going to be tough to explain this kind of thing to someone like Phoenix.

"I don't know why a portal I guess, appeared in your closet but there are barriers between various worlds and due to actions by this evil guy they have weakened to the point where people are taken from their world and sent to another. You actually got lucky as I got pulled out of nowhere." Scott said, explaining to the best of his abilities.

"Well, that would explain a few things." Shogi flutters a bit more before landing once more on Kensei's shoulder. "I mean, we got pulled through when... Well..." She stops, feeling Kensei tense up slightly. "That doesn't matter. We're here now, right? So, why don't we, you know, go look around, find something to do?"

Shrugging one of his shoulders, Kensei forces Shogi off her place. Moving ahead, he steps onto a lighted platform, and is whisked away towards the center of the arena, containing in it the console for setting up the battles, along with one very stalwart moogle.

"Virtual reality training?" Phoenix put a hand to his chin, thinking. "Hm..." Clearly, the lawyer was intrigued by the virtual system. He was far from a technology expert, but it sounded a lot like the MASON System and Widget, the little tool his colleague Athena Cykes used to help with her analytical psychology. He shrugged. "I guess it might be worth checking out. As long as it isn't very dangerous."

(I'm already getting flashbacks to Prosecutor Blackquill's trials looking at that samurai's swords. I hope he isn't as, uh, liberal with their use as he is.)

Trucy grabbed her father's hand, dragging him along into the strange elevator. "C'mon Daddy, it'll be fun!"

Despite himself, Phoenix smiled, and hurried along with her after Kensei and Shogi. "Okay, okay, it couldn't hurt to watch."

Scott smiled as he followed the three into the Mirage Arena itself. It was a pretty impressive looking place and it looked just like how he had remembered it. "I think we need to talk to that Moogle in order to set up some battles." Scott told Kensei. He would let the Samurai set up what kin of battle he wanted as he was the first one here.

"I'm pretty sure that you two can just watch from here. Now me and Kensei there can give you guys a bit of a show." Scott said to Phoenix and Trucy as he walked over to the Moogle and waited for Kensei.

Nodding, Kensei walks over to the small creature, what the young man called a 'moogle'. Looking down at the creature, then over towards the machinery, he asks. "What is needed?"

Fluttering there, the moogle heads over to the console and types onto the keyboard. "Not much, kupo. Just pick the scenario from the screen, kupo, and I'll load it into an arena for you to battle. Each scenario has a certain level of difficulty, kupo, so take care not to pick one too tough for you."

While most of the terms that the creature used were unfamiliar, Kensei looked down at the list of moving text on the object, before poking one. Hearing a strange chirp, he looks around. Seeing a light appear on another part of the area, he moves towards it.

Floating back around Phoenix and Trucy, Shogi watches as Kensei disappears in the light. "Good luck, Kensei..."

Phoenix could only watch as his strange new acquaintances talked to some weird fluffy creature with what looked like a pom-pom attached to its head. Sure, he'd been involved in some strange situations before, even other worlds, but this was all totally new. He had no idea what could happen out here. However, that didn't stop his curiosity about the virtual training ground. After the others walked into the strange light (apparently some sort of teleportation - again, he couldn't believe he was getting used to thinking things like that), he turned to the little thing.

"So... you run this whole place?"

"You bet, kupo! For just about eleven years, kupo, the Mirage Arena has served as a training grounds for all kinds of heroes! It's a very proud establishment, kupo."

"Right... so, what are you, anyways? Um, if you don't mind me asking."

"Ah, new here? That's alright, kupo. My kind are known as moogles. You'll find us pretty much everywhere, kupo. Salesmen, mail delivery, ice cream vendors, kupo, we do all kinds of jobs!"

Phoenix rubbed his spikes awkwardly, a bit of a nervous habit. "I guess that's... interesting... Say, can this place be used for things other than, uh, "combat" training? What other kind of scenarios can you make?"

"You know, kupo, no one's ever asked for anything else! I'll look into it. What kind of scenarios are you thinking of, kupo?"

"Well, I'm a lawyer, and I was wondering if it would be possible to recreate court cases..."

"Maybe, kupo! I'll work on it and let you know!"

Phoenix nodded. "Thank you very much."

Meanwhile, his daughter walked over to Shogi, her hands behind her back and bouncing energetically.

"I've never met a fairy before, you know? Even though I'm a magician. Isn't that a little weird? But I'm glad I got to meet one because you are so adorable! Hey, how come you're with that samurai guy anyways? I mean, not like it's a problem, but it's kind of weird to see a fairy hanging out with a samurai, you know?"

The questions from Trucy were, as usual, a mile a minute.

Scott grinned slightly as he followed Kensei into the arena. The arena itself looked just like it did during the game. Now that he was here, he had to get ready before the enemies appeared. It seemed like the Kabuto Zecter can get in anywhere. The portal appeared like usual and Scott easily caught it. He looked over to Kensei before holding it out and saying a word that he might recognize. "Henshin!"

With practiced ease Scott slid it into postion on his belt.

Henshin!

Scott smiled as the armor formed around his body with a mechanical sound. He always enjoyed the feeling when he transformed. With the Kabuto Kunai Gun in his right hand, Scott looked to Kensei again and said. "Ready whenever you are."

Nodding, Kensei reaches for his daisho set, removing both katana and tanto, holding one in each hand. Breathing deeply, he nods his head once more, watching as the arena fills with enemies. A number of them were those dark entities that he first encountered on the island. A few more were familiar Genma Swordsmen that he had encountered in times past... but the others were entirely alien to him. Perhaps his partner knew of them. "Do you know of these?"

----

"Sorry, but I'm not a fairy. I'm a Tengu. There's quite a difference." Shogi flutters around Trucy a bit more before landing on the young lady's shoulder. "And well, I kinda have a job to do, so I mostly have to stay around him."

"See, Kensei's a soldier who's fighting against real evil things, called the Genma. The Genma have only one purpose, to control humanity, and on occasion, eat them. I know it's gross, but that's what they do."

"Mostly, I'm there to help raise his spirits. He's had a tough time recently, and I think his mood's getting worse."

"You don't look like any Tengu I've heard of... at least not how my friend Jinxie describes them. Those Genma things sound really gross, though. The only man-eaters I know are some of the lawyers Daddy has to deal with... why's your friend in such a bad mood, anyways? I would think seeing all this other-world stuff would be really exciting! It's exciting to me, anyways! Though I think Daddy's kind of freaked out by it..."

Meanwhile, Phoenix was continuing his conversation with the friendly moogle.

"So you're saying you can just use my memories?"

"That's right, kupo! That's how this arena can create duplicates of monsters from other worlds to train against! Just put your hand on that penal there, kupo, and I can set it to search for relevant memories."

Phoenix had seen some strange things in his life. Magic books, flying men, biological weapons, even giant planet-eaters, and this was just another one on the pile. (How do I keep getting wrapped up in these things? I just wanted to be a lawyer!)

But he did what the moogle instructed, putting his hand on the glowing panel presented to him. A small holographic screen appeared in front of him and the moogle. As soon as a memory had been found, it was put up on the display. True to the moogle's words, it was indeed a courtroom. On one side was Phoenix himself, about eight years younger, and on the other was man with blond hair, who was wearing sunglasses.

"Achtung, baby!"

"Ah ha... let's try a different one...."

The beginning of the fight caught Phoenix's attention. He couldn't help but blanch at Scott's transformation. It was like he was being dragged to one of the Steel Samurai's live performances all over again. And he would know, a certain friend of his had made sure that he watched every episode and every performance known to man.

Heartless what looked to be zombie samurai and Worms. Scott found the mix rather interesting as the zombies had to be from Kensei's world. It was good to know that the arena could come up with a large variety of different enemies to fight. This would do some good training.

"They are called Worms specifically Salis Worms. Not too dangerous on their own but if any of them changes they become stronger, and much much faster. If that happens leave it to me. This armor was designed to take them out." Scott explained as he opened fire on the group of enemies. The fire from the Kunai gun already took down one of the Worms and a couple Shadows. He was ready in case anything else showed up.

"Understood." With that, Kensei makes his moves towards the first of the Zombie Warriors. Blocking a slice with his tanto, he responds with a slash with his katana, cutting upwards, striking torso, face and hat with one strike, sending the creature back. Turning, he ducks underneath a leaping Shadow, raising up his tanto to allow its blade to slice against the belly of the Heartless. Another Zombie Warrior runs at him, and he blocks once more, using both katana and tanto. Whilst holding the block, Kensei responds with a kicks, which forces the demon to fall to the ground, which he punctuates with a stab to the chest, seeing it dissipate in a red mist. Putting away both tanto and katana, Kensei pulls out his bow and, pulling out an arrow, takes aim and fires at another Zombie Warrior, striking death center in the forehead, finishing that one as well.

---

"You have to understand that Kensei can be a bit of a sore loser. It's worse considering he's a samurai. To him, honor means everything, and each time he's lost, he felt it was a huge blow to him." Shogi floats there, watching the battle. "He honestly believed that he would have had more honor dying on the field of battle than to live with the shame of being defeated. I've tried to help him, but whenever I get him to a point where he feels better about himself, something bad happens, and he gets all grumpy again." She sighs. The floating screen disappeared once Phoenix had gotten a better idea of it. He would have offered the Moogle a handshake, but it'd probably be awkward considering the size difference. Instead, he just put his hands in his pockets to keep himself from doing anything weird with them.

"Thank you for your help. I'm not very good with technology, but this might be helpful."

"You're welcome, kupo! To be honest with you, I never even considered using this place for anything other than combat simulations. At least this should make things less boring, kupo!"

"...Sure." (I guess being stuck in this place for a decade would have that effect.)

With that bit of business done, the lawyer went back to stand next to Trucy. She waved, making sure to use the arm Shogi wasn't perched on.

"Hi, Daddy! Did you finish your business with that nice moogle?"

"Sure did. I see you're just as good at making friends as ever." She giggled.

"You bet! Shogi was just telling me a little about Kensei."

"I overheard. That description... sounds a lot like a friend of mine. He used to think that winning was everything, even if he was fighting for the wrong cause. And when he lost, he disappeared because he couldn't handle the shame. But he came back for the better, and when we worked together, I think we both learned that it's alright to lose... when you're fighting for the wrong side."

Trucy put a hand to her chin, thinking, but then snapped her fingers. "Oh! I bet you're talking about Uncle Edgey, right Daddy?"

Phoenix chuckled. "That's right." He looked at Shogi. "I don't know a lot about what you're friends been through, Miss, uh, Shogi. But I think he could use some new direction. You're his friend, and you probably know him the best, so maybe you can help him with that."

Unlike Kensei, Scott wasn't ready to jump into the fray just yet. He walked forward firing his gun at whatever was in front of him. Once there was some that were close Scott changed how he held the Kunai Gun and now used it as an ax. Some of the Zombies managed to slash Scott but the extra armor he had made it so the strike were only making him stumble slightly. He lashed out the ax cutting through one of the Zombies before using his free hand to punch away another.

He looked over and saw that he was surrounded but that was fine. "Cast off." Scott said as he swung the Zecter's horn around like a switch

Cast Off!

At once the extra armor flew off, smashing into whatever was around him and the beetle horn rose up in position on his helmet.

Change Beetle!

"Kamen Rider Kabuto...Ready!" Scott called out as he made his two fingered slashing motion in front of him.

"I've been trying, Mr. Wright." Shogi continues to look at the battle, even going so far as to flutter up to the screen showing the battle and, for a moment, reaches out towards it. "But being a samurai's all he's ever known. He can't think of anything else outside of fighting battles. He doesn't think of how his ways could affect others. I've tried to show him other things, but he's so stubborn..." Pausing, she kicks the screen. "Gah, it's so frustrating!"

---

Twisting out of the way of one last slash from a Zombie Warrior, Kensei's tanto plunges into the creature's head, making it disappear in a crimson cloud like it's fellow soldiers. However, with the last of the Zombie Warriors gone, another type of creature appears on the field of battle. Green-colored, gelatinous in shape, and exuding a foul stench, Kensei growls. "Zolworms." Seeing it lurch at a slow pace, he runs towards it, only to be swatted back by one of the creature's tendrils.

"I understand." Phoenix said, also watching Kensei and Scott fight. "Just keep encouraging him. I'm no expert on these situations, but you're in the presence of advanced technology and other planets. There's plenty you can show him that he doesn't need to fight all the time. Like... hm... amusement parks! Or, or books! And, erm, new kinds of food."

"Like cake!" Trucy chimed in.

"Yes, like cake."

Phoenix realized they'd gotten a bit off track. "...A-Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that you just need to... distract him. There's so much to learn out here. If you can just find something else for Kensei to be interested in, maybe he'd be willing to put down his sword. Uh, so to speak."

Scott looked at the new creature and couldn't help but think about fighting another kind of creature that was a 'worm'. Still it looked to be rather slow which made it the perfect kind of foe for Scott to take on. "Clock up." Scott said as he slapped the button on the side of his belt.

Clock Up

To Scott everything seemed to slow down but to all the others Scott was moving faster. That newfound speed let him attack the Zolworm faster than it could counter. His kunai struck into the creature and no matter how many of its tendrils it swung at Scott, the Kamen Rider was able to dodge. Scott smirked from behind his mask. Even if it was from a totally different world, Kabuto was still made to take down worms.

"I hope you're right, Mr. Wright." Shogi floats back onto Trucy's shoulder. "And I hope that there's something out there for him."

---

Dodging out of the way of a few remaining Shadows, Kensei runs towards the last of the Salis Worms standing there. However, as he does, he sees the Worm get covered in a haze. The haze dissipates... revealing himself. "What sorcery is this?" A swing of his katana is blocked by the Salis duplicate of him. The Tanto stab is dodged. This thing was wiser than most Genma that he had the misfortune to come across, and now not only did it look like him, he thought that the creature could think like him. It could know his thoughts and actions. All the more dangerous.

Immediately, the Salis Worm replica of Kensei reaches for its back, removing a duplicate of the Blade of Bishimonten. Seeing it grip the sword tightly, the real Kensei once more dashes at it leaping into the air to try and cleave the creature's head with his katana.

Yet, the Salis duplicate was one step ahead. Swirling the blade around him, an aura of yellow energy covers the barbs of the blade. Slamming the blade onto the ground, pillars of stone shoot up around the duplicate, sending Kensei flying once more.

"Oh, no." All Shogi can do is watch in sadness.
