All was quiet on the beach of Destiny Islands; the sun was halfway over the horizon, cast a golden glow over the pristine oasis. Aught was amiss, and the children who frequented the small island had already departed for dinner. Alone on the shore was a young man with sandy-colored hair who wore alien clothes; on his back -- a bright red sword that didn't look quite like any sword a normal person would see in their lifetime. With nobody around, it took a while for the boy's eyes to groggily open and subsequently wince from the sun's glare. With a groan, the Homs known as Shulk sat up and squinted at his surroundings. The boy looked utterly confused, he wasn't sure exactly how he ended up here; he might have remembered passing out on a beach.

A familiar weight on Shulk's back caught his attention, and it came as a great shock when he pulled a red sword free from a sheathe. It had a strange, almost alien look about it, but looking at it brought Shulk a great deal of relief for some reason. With the sword to steady himself, Shulk rose to his feet and set the weapon over his back once more. "Where...am I?" It was all Shulk could think to say, as if he expected someone to come out and answer. From the looks of things, he wasn't going to get that lucky.

(Takes place after Mourning Arcane for Riku)

Riku stood in the same place he always stood since he was a kid. On the same rock where he would sometimes spar with Sora, sitting on top of one of the bent palm trees. Jumping off from his perch, he turned around and walked back to the shore when he noticed a blonde haired man looking around, confused. The Keyblade Master also noticed an odd, red sword on his back. At least he thought it looked like a sword, despite the odd circular like guard for the hilt.

Riku walked over to where the stranger was and stood in view to get his attention. "Hey. You look lost." He called out, not bothering to summon Way to the Dawn. The Keyblade Master figured he was dealing with a new Converger, given how disoriented he was, his odd clothing and the fact that he may had just appeared.

"Hey. You look lost."

Shulk turned towards the direction the voice came from, and he was met with a boy who looked to be around his age, although he was quite a bit taller. "Er...yeah, I am." Shulk admitted, giving the island another wide glance, as if he expected the location to "click" somehow. "I don't remember ever visiting this place," Shulk pondered aloud, before he realized something troubling, "I...I don't remember much at all, actually." Amnesia, he was sure of it.

It was a curious; no matter how hard Shulk tried to recall the past, but it was all blank and... nothing, like a high-pitched humming in your ears that wouldn't go away. "My name is Shulk," the Homs said, more to himself than the other boy. At least he could remember his name. Although his forgotten past appeared to be troubling the boy greatly, he didn't appear to be too distraught over the situation, probably because he couldn't feel anything for memories he didn't have in the first place. "Do you live here?" Shulk asked the silver-haired boy.

"I live on these islands." Riku replied, letting the stranger know this wasn't the only one. "This island is where I always went to play growing up. My home is on another island nearby." He added, looking over the amnesiac man named Shulk. "Had I met you before, I would've introduced you to a friend. She's an expert on memories. Oh and it's Riku." The Keyblade Master mentioned his name at the end.

Looking at the red blade on the man's back, he looked back at him. "What do you remember besides your name?"

Shulk pondered Riku's question with an upwards glance and a contemplative stance: one arm crossed over his chest and the other propped on top, his hand rested over his chin. Yet just like before, his effort to recall any sort of detail about his past was for nothing. His thoughts were like an impenetrable fog: impossible to traverse, yet the Homs could feel some traces of his identity somewhere. "Not much I'm afraid," Shulk admitted, he was clearly disappointed because of his failure. When the boy looked at Riku, he noticed that he was looking at the sword on his back. Out of nowhere, a single word came to mind: Monado.

"Monado. This sword, it's called 'the Monado'." Shulk added, he emphasized 'Monado' slowly, as if he was testing how natural it was to sound out. "I'm not sure how I know that," the Homs said, pulling the Monado off his back, he held it up for Riku to examine. The sword was lighter than it looked, Shulk found, and the blue lines running across the blade glowed faintly. The longer Shulk stared at the sword, the stronger his sense of security became; the Monado must have been important to him in the past. That was the only logical reason why he had any emotional response to this inanimate object.

"Wait," Shulk shook his head a little, "you said one of your friends is an expert on memories? Can I meet her?" Shulk asked; he couldn't help it, he sounded desperate. So desperate that he'd already taken a step or two towards Riku in his excitement.

Riku stepped back unconsciously when he saw the amnesiac take a step towards him. He simply sighed and shook his head. "Sorry, it's not that simple. She's... gone." The Keyblade Master looked away. "Still... you remember something about your weapon. That's a start." He had seen a lot of unique blades, especially considering he himself wields a Keyblade after all. But this Monado was not something he had ever seen before. There was still that one possibility he hadn't mentioned to Shulk at first.

"You must be from a different world. Let me explain." Riku said, to make sure the blonde man wouldn't interrupt him. "An event called the Great Convergence recently happened. What it did was shatter the walls of reality, bringing people from different worlds and even a different realm here. The realm we exist in is called the Realm of Waking. There are those that come from a realm called the Realm of Reality where this realm is fiction to them. From the looks of you, you're from this realm but a world that isn't of this verse. People like us are called Convergers." He included himself in the term as well, considering he could also travel to those other verses but hadn't bothered yet The Keyblade Master figured he should remedy that soon.

Riku might as well have slapped Shulk in the face, it would have stunned him to a lesser degree than hearing Riku's explanation. The Monado wielder took a step back, eyes wide and mouth agape. "A-Another world?" He repeated, and he waited for Riku to grin and joke about his gullibility. The other boy didn't even crack a smile; either he was a good liar, or he was somehow telling the truth. Shulk didn't want to believe the latter, and his mind raced to formulate some kind of counterpoint...

"That...that can't be true, do you have any..." Shulk started, only to trail off as his thoughts reached a humbling conclusion: Riku didn't have much a reason to lie to him. That, and Shulk didn't have any reason to doubt him. After all, for all he knew he really was on a different world. Besides, there wasn't any obvious way Riku benefited from his explanation. "I...I suppose I have to believe you for now, it's a lot to take in, that's all." Shulk said, chuckling humorlessly.

He was a fictional person? Insane, the idea was utterly insane. Until he could prove otherwise, however, his status as a Converger was now the reality he needed to accept. "Do Convergers get amnesia?" Shulk asked upon regaining his composure.

"I don't know. The ones I have met appear to keep their memories." Riku replied, feeling a bit guilty over saying something that the amnesiac wasn't ready for. He did feel it was necessary to know as soon as possible but hadn't bothered to elaborate. That was something he was going to fix now."As for when I mentioned us being fictional, that's because people in the Realm of Reality see into this realm through their dreams and imagination. It doesn't mean we're not real. So whatever life you have or had is not fake."

"Still, you need a Gummi ship to get around. Otherwise, you'd be stuck in this world." The Keyblade Master added. "It's a ship that let's you travel the multiverse, made out of special blocks. You also need to know of the Heartless. Beings born from the darkness of a person's heart. When a person looses their heart to the darkness, they become a Heartless. Black creatures, some with yellow eyes while there are others that have an emblem on them."

Everything Riku said raised numerous questions in Shulk's mind; he was utterly confused by his explanation of the "Realm of Reality." He was a dream, yet he was real? By all rights, it didn't make any sense. Shulk eventually resolved to stop thinking about it and focus on what could be practical to his situation. Gummi ships, that was a good place to start. "I don't suppose you have a gummi ship?" Shulk asked, before considering the last of Riku's explanations: the Heartless.

They sounded like an obvious danger, and the kind Shulk hoped he never encountered. "Where can they appear?" The Homs questioned, to get a sense of how careful he'd need to be on his upcoming journey.

"Almost anywhere. There are exceptions." Riku replied. "For example, worlds protected by light and also complete public areas. There's also another thing you should now. Some people who lose their hearts have strong bodies and souls, the leftover shells obtaining a life of their own. They're called Nobodies and usually appear as white creations with a symbol, different from the ones Heartless possess. They can actually think, unlike the Heartless and there's another form to them. Some Nobodies manage to retain their original appearance as people. But they can't feel anything because they have no hearts. Until they can finally grow their own hearts or they're reunited with their original heart if their Heartless was killed by a Keyblade."

Shulk hung on Riku's every word; his explanation was as fascinating as it was disturbing. The young boy began to pace back and forth while seemingly lost in his own thoughts. "It seems like you know a lot about them," he observed, "can you tell me what a keyblade is?" The name sounded silly, and the idea of a key functioning as some sort of blade was a little too unrealistic for Shulk. Then again, being on a different world, maybe things were just different here than wherever he was from -- at least disbelief proved he had another small connection to his past life.

"...I can show you one." Riku stretched his right arm forward, hand opened. He materialized Way to the Dawn right in front of Shulk."This is a Keyblade. A fweapon of light, although mine also wields the power of darkness. I had some experiences in my past but that can be for another time. It's capable of unlocking locks and Heartless slain with this release trapped hearts as a result. Don't bother picking it up, it'll simply return to me." With that, the Keyblade Master dismissed his keyblade.

The sight of the "keyblade" shocked the Monado user, it had literally appeared out of nowhere. "Amazing... how can that work? What sort of technology is this?" Shulk pondered aloud, though Riku didn't appear too interested in explaining. Just as quickly as it appeared, the keyblade vanished, it seemed Riku wanted to keep that under wraps, too bad for Shulk's curiosity. "You mentioned something about gummi ships?" Shulk glanced around, unsure of what to look out for. "Can I see one?"

Riku simply raised an eyebrow at the mention of technology. From whatever world Shulk had come from, it appeared it was an advanced one. At the mention of gummi ships, he nodded. "I'll show you one. You need to follow me." He lead the amnesiac into the cabin that was nearby and pointed a glowing circle on the floor in the corner. "This circle can teleport us into my ship." The Keyblade Master demonstrated by standing on the circle then warping to his ship.

He waited in the ship for the blonde man to join him. Once he would come inside, Riku would lead him to the cockpit.

After standing in the glowing green circle, Shulk felt nothing as he was whisked away and brought into what could be classified as a cockpit. Straight up, through a thick glass window, was the endless expanse of space. "Woah," the boy muttered, amazed at the sheer scale of it all. The cockpit itself was much more modest; it was sparsely decorated, a few tables and chairs of varying colors of the rainbow were spaced out in the area. Pinned on the wall beside a large deck of electronic instruments, however, were a collage of small photographs. Upon closer examination, Shulk could see that the pictures mostly consisted of a happy looking pair of kids: one who looked liked Riku, and another with even spikier brown hair. Some pictures had a brown-haired girl join in, and the three seemed to age up with every photograph Shulk glanced at.

"Friends of yours?" Shulk asked, glancing at Riku, "you all look pretty close, there're a lot of pictures here."

"We are." Riku replied."The one with the spiky hair is Sora. The girl is Kairi. We've been together since we were kids. They also use Keyblades like me." He sat down on the pilot seat and worked on the console. "I'll take you to a world called Radiant Garden. You can get a ship of your own there and it's possible we may find someone who knows something about you." The Keyblade Master set the coordinates then piloted the ship away from his home world.
