Headmaster
The Professor and the young first years walk in the side entrance of the Great Hall as the rest of the hall watchs them. They all are awaiting the famous ceremony that takes place at the beginning of every academic year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Everyone in the hall was silent, awaiting the ceremony, except for a few of the first years that were muttering to themselves nervously. It was a common sight, as some of them were muggleborn (or even half-blood sometimes) and still did not know how they were to be sorted. The group had arrived to the front of the hall, next to a small wooden stool, and the Professor stopped them there. She produced a raggity-looking hat, looking as if it had been around for years. It did, indeed, had been around for many, many years. She placed it down upon the stool and looked up at the Headmaster.

The Headmaster stood up at this point and addressed the school, "Welcome everyone, to another great year at Hogwarts. I hope you all enjoy yourselves this year and create many wondrous memories. The Sorting Ceremony shall now commence so we are able to make some new friends in each house." He looked down at the Professor and nodded his head. She looked back at the school, and then at the first years and said, "When I call your name, you shall sit on the stool and put the hat upon your head. Once it has chosen a House for you, you shall go sit with the rest of them. Your house will be like a family to you throughout your years here at Hogwarts. Let us begin." She took out a scroll and now waited, looking at the hat.

The first years were taken aback, as they had been focusing on the Professor, when a seam on the hat burst open and it started singing loudly throughout the grande hall.

Don't Judge on What You See
The Sorting Hat was placed onto the stool and waited for a second, for dramatic effect. After what it thought was long enough, a seam broke open near the bottom of the hat and a loud voice boomed out of the hat into the hall,

"Welcome back, one and all
For it’s been far too long
And here are some first years
Wondering where they belong
Let me introduce myself
To those who do not know
For I’m the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I put on quite a show
All I need is for you to put me on
And listen to what I say
I’ve never been wrong (or so I hear)
So give me the light of day
Be not afraid little ones
And cease your little chat
Listen to me, and I shall sort you
For I’m a Sorting Hat

You might belong to Gryffindor
Where there’s bravery at its best
Their courage (some call audacity)
Shall never take a rest
Or you might dwell in Hufflepuff
Where all the hard workers stay
They mostly are impartial
Keeping unfair judgment at bay
Or maybe in witty Ravenclaw
Where those who love to learn
Hold their stay in this House
And work to receive their earn
Lastly there is old Slytherin
Where your real friends are made
Sticking to their beliefs,
They are difficult to dissuade

So try me on, don’t be afraid!
And I will do my best
No need to worry (for those who do)
From now on you’re with the rest!
"
