PSN's been out for a day or so, and I notice people are going crazy blaming it on that Anonymous whatever. People are freaking out, and really no one even knows whats going on. I swear people on the internet are crazy as hell.

No doubt about that. Looks like I picked a good time to not have a Playstation 3!

Huh?

Well, that "Anonymous" group claims to have nothing to do with it this time, so I wonder what (or who) is really behind it.

Doesn't really affect me though. I won't be on PSN again until I get another PS3 (not likely as things stand now) or Sony somehow decides to allow older OFW and/or CFW users to graciously give them money again (equally not likely).

--EDIT--
Guess I should put a source to the "Anonomous" not being involved:
http://ps3.dashhacks.com/2011/04/21/worldwide-psn-outage

--info is under one of the "update"s.
Though, I haven't checked out the actual "Anon" site on the matter.

I dunno but all this sure brings out the fanboys, and trolls. They all like to point the finger at someone. I'm pretty sure if it's anyone's fault it's more than likely Sony's. I sincerely doubt it was actually hacked. My guess is some equipment failure or something to that effect happened.

I have to agree, if only because anyone who's operating a massive infrastructure like Sony is should seriously have failsafes for their failsafes, particularly when you have some games that won't even play if a connection to PSN isn't established.

I realize that it's a relatively minor thing in the grand scheme of things, but I would be surprised if nobody gets fired because of this.

Huh. I just go to work and get left out of the loop for sometimes days on end. Who knew this was going on.

I think someone inside stole the information. Just my two cents. I don't buy this outside source stuff. In any case this was the LAST thing Sony needed on their hands. I think we can kiss any positive gains the PS3 had in 08 and 09 goodbye.

Okay, I take it back, this DOES affect me.

I made one lousy purchase in recent history (actually a great purchase, as it was a Mega Man game) on my card and now I find out that my info was compromised.

Oy! That's not good. I really don't want to get another card right now.
Of course, there's not much in my account right now anyways. But the hassle of changing everything is going to be annoying once I start using my bank account again.

Sheesh Sony! Did you learn nothing from the Anon attacks (and that's only the most recent non-harmful occurrence). They probably should have shut it down right then, until they could figure it out.
As far as security goes it's been failure after failure with Sony. And while I disagree with limiting your personal PS3 access, I'm all for them protecting their actual NETWORK.

I just think they have been really cocky about things and this is the first time Sony is finally taking things seriously. Why it had to take a major fiasco, I'll never know.

I knew deleting my CC info on the 15th, never changing my address after I moved, and keeping that fake name on my account was a good idea. Well not really i was just too lazy to change the fake name/address stuff, and I just deleted my CC info since I don't use my card on PSN anymore, but hell I guess being lazy was a good idea this time.

I just posted about this on the site. The bottom line is that I'm annoyed, but not that surprised that Sony dropped the ball. Let's get this on the table right now... the Playstation 3 was a mess from the start. The Xbox 360 has systems that self-destruct after a couple years, but the Playstation 3 has everything else you don't want in a console, from a kludgy, needlessly process-oriented online store to constant, lengthy firmware updates to exclusives nobody really wants. And the system costs more than its competitors! And its motion control peripheral is a weaksauce Wiimote rip-off! And it's the first system that punishes late adopters by taking away key features! And...

...okay, you get the idea. I don't like the Playstation 3, but only because Sony gives me so many good reasons!

Honestly, I think the removal of Linux (as mentioned in the article) was Sony's typical ham-fisted way of trying to outwit the hackers (apparently the "Other OS" was a key to some kind of exploit, and instead of fixing the lock, they just covered the door in drywall and hoped that nobody would complain).

What strikes me as funny (not funny "haha", funny "what the hell is wrong with you*?") about all this is that apparently the customer information was stored as plain text--given that this is a company that is paranoid about protecting its own intellectual property, it's kind of strange that they would play fast and loose with the information of others--or rather, it would be if it weren't for what I remember about the rootkit fiasco (that it essentially opened up security holes and could mess up your CD drive if you tried to remove it).

*"you" in this case refers to Sony.

Man, I was THhhiiiiiissssss close to getting another PS3 for PSN access. The deal fell through though.
and then I came to my senses and bought a bunch of other crap instead.

I really like my CFW PS3 though. I just don't want to give it up.

Might have to take up the free PSP games though, assuming they let me on through my PC once the store is back online.

i got an email from Sony saying i can pick 2 free downloadable games for my PS3 you can choose from: InFAMOUS, Super Stardust HD, WipEout HD Bundle, LittleBigPlanet or Dead Nation. I was thinking of getting Super Stardust and LittleBigPlanet, what do you guys think of those games?

Haven't played any of them. Seriously, I hear Little Big Planet is getting nothing but rave reviews. If Sony is giving it away and I didn't have it, I would definately pick that up.
