Well, i got tired of my sons XBOX360 always red ringing so i got ahold of two gen 2 CPU heatsinks and moved his optical drive to the outside of the case and ran both those heatsinks in his system. one on the CPU and one on the GPU (duh, i overly state the obvious) it runs 30° F cooler on the gpu and hasn't red ringed since i did it like three months ago.

You're the coolest Dad ever! (next to mine anyways, but he's more "the handyman" than "the tech-guy").

However, I hate how people have to resort to this type of thing.
If a company is going to make a system that will likely fail without intensive surgery, I may just decide that it's not worth the risk/stress/effort/headache (and I did).

RROD's are one of the major reasons I don't have a 360 (I hear they fixed the issue in newer units, but I don't have $$ for that nowadays).
I live in fear that my PS3 will YLOD one day. I'm not about to try opening it up though. I just have it where there's plenty of ventilation and cover it when not in use.
Installing my games on HDD helps, I hope, at least saving the laser a lot of abuse.

Finally, I wish consoles would at least make it easy to replace components. Everything is so "propriety"; I would much rather be able to buy a part and throw it in there than send it away to fix what's beyond my skill level (probably at twice the cost for half the quality of a fix).
In fact, I think my next next-gen system is going to be a computer upgrade. I'll enjoy Skyrim just fine on that.
