Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp to hijack Aubameyang's China move metro.co.uk Aubameyang’s potential move to China has caught the attention of Liverpool and Madrid (Getty) Latest from Metro.co.uk Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has emerged as a shock January target for Liverpool as they look to reinvest the funds received from Philippe Coutinho’s departure, according to reports. The Brazilian completed a £142 million switch from Anfield to Barcelona over the weekend, becoming the third most expensive player ever – and record Premier League sale – in the process. Jurgen Klopp has been linked with moves for Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez to replace Coutinho, though French outlet Le10Sport have now added Aubameyang to the mix. Coutinho was unveiled by Barcelona on Monday, with Liverpool netting £142m (Picture: Getty) The Borussia Dortmund striker looks increasingly likely to leave Germany, while it has even been reported in China that he has agreed a £63.5m transfer to the Far East. However, that deal is not yet closed – with Guenghzou Evergrande and Beijing Guoan the two sides interested – and Aubameyang is yet to give the green light to a move. More: Football He rejected the chance to move to China in the summer despite an incredibly lucrative contract offer worth £26m a year after tax, and Le10Sport believe his reluctance to leave Europe could entice both Liverpool and Real Madrid. The Merseysiders have been linked with Aubameyang before, with Klopp having worked with the Gabon international at Dortmund, and the German seems open to a reunion in January. Aubameyang has 13 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season for BVB (Picture: Getty) Liverpool are somewhat light in the striker department, with Roberto Firmino more of a false No.9, Daniel Sturridge frequently injured and Danny Ings available for loan. Aubameyang’s potential arrival could see Firmino drop deeper, flanked by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana providing further cover and competition. |

If he's even contemplating going to China, then I reckon he's only thinking of the money- not a good sign... |

63 million for a 28 year old who is already considering retirement from serious football? Hmmmm.

From the little that I have read, Aubameyang is unhappy with his club, as his club, and a number of other players is unhappy with him. I think there is a good chance he just wants out. I suspect that the Chinese clubs are just putting in opportunistic bids to take advantage of the mutual antagonism at his club. Personally, I would guess that he could turn out to be a useful acquisition for our club, but not at the price the Chinese are reportedly bidding. I would tend to see him as a replacement for Sturridge, to be honest, rather than Coutinho. But as others have mentioned, he scores goals, and his style suits Klopp's. |

I don't doubt he'd be a great option for us to have, but I do wonder why its only the Chinese clubs in for him so far, and why he's even entertaining the option? It leaves a question mark at the very least |

Looooool it's true! If there were any underlying issues, the surely Dortmund wouldnt place a high transfer fee on him? Given his record, it does not seem that there is an underlying issue. |

Maybe in the same way that Suarez was a troublemaker with his biting habit. When you want out, all manner of disagreements can break out with your coach, club, and colleagues. |

I would hazard a guess that the Chinese bid is so far above that which European clubs would pay for him, that they don't even consider putting in a bid. That might be our stance, too. |

If he doesn't want to go there. All the money in the world won't change that....Tevez didn't stay long despite being on £600k a week. |

China is a footballers graveyard full of players who couldn't be arsed anymore and seeking an easy life for lots of money. The fact he is considering it leaves question marks for me. |

If no other club is interested in him and he doesn’t have many chances to win silverware...then a lucrative retirement contract is an appealing option. I don’t think he is choosing the money ahead of a competitive challenge in Europe. |

So then the question would be - why is no club outside of China interested in him? |
