Add-ons revealed in Liverpool's £142m Coutinho deal www.teamtalk.com Add-ons revealed in Liverpool’s £142m Coutinho deal Date published: Wednesday 10th January 2018 11:53 The breakdown of Philippe Coutinho’s £142million transfer fee has been revealed, with £36million in attainable add-ons. The Brazilian sealed his move from Liverpool to Barcelona over the weekend on a five-and-a-half-year, £12.1million a season deal with a €400million (£355m) buyout clause. Barca’s sporting director Jordi Mestre claimed they had got a good deal with reports Liverpool had dropped their asking price from a reported €200million to enable the deal to go through. Still, the £142million transfer is the second highest deal in history, behind Neymar’s €222million summer move from Barcelona to PSG. Barca failed with three bids in the summer for Coutinho, with the third bid believed to be in the region of £114million. However, there were suggestions that Barca had included some pretty ridiculous add-ons as part of the deal, such as Coutinho winning the Ballon d’Or. Liverpool were not keen, but Barca returned this month with £106million for the initial transfer – and that may not be paid in one lump sum – along with several more feasible additions. The Guardian report that half of the £36million add-on fees will come from appearance milestones, with the other half based on Barcelona’s European exploits. £18million for Coutinho’s first 100 matches for Barca – they will pay £4.5m at each 25-match interval to total £18m £4.5m due if Barca qualify for 2018/19 Champions League Another £4.5m if they qualify for the 19/20 Champions League A further £4.5m for winning the Champions League in 18/19 And £4.5m again if they win the Champions League again in 19/20 |

Most of it seems straight forward to achieve. Maybe barca wanted to spread the fee out more so used the add ons as the medium to do it? |

Coutinho gives key reason why he pushed to leave Liverpool for Barcelona www.teamtalk.com Coutinho gives key reason why he pushed to leave Liverpool for Barcelona Date published: Wednesday 7th February 2018 3:31 Philippe Coutinho claims he ultimately wanted to leave Liverpool and join Barcelona for the chance to win “the big titles” in football. The Brazilian completed a transfer from Anfield to the Nou Camp in the early part of the January transfer window with the deal ultimately set to cost the La Liga giants £142million. Liverpool fought desperately hard to keep Coutinho, but ultimately, it was his desire to win trophies that swayed him towards Catalonia after five years without winning anything at Anfield. “Everyone knows that I wanted to come to Barcelona,” he told 8tv’s ‘Fora de Joc’ programme. “It wasn’t possible in the summer, but we worked so that it could be done in winter. “I really want to win big titles, it was one of the reasons that made me sign for the club.” When asked what trophies he has set his heart on, Coutinho concluded: “I want to win as many as I can, I don’t have preferences.” |

Pretty much certain £ 27 mil of those extra £ 36 mil incentives will come Liverpool way in payments. If they win a CL along the way the better it is but who cares at the end. It’s still a shitload of money to FSG. Only thing that matters is if they spend some or all of it on good productive players to buy. |
