Klopp explains Van Dijk omission, discusses Ings transfer www.teamtalk.com Klopp explains Van Dijk omission, discusses Ings transfer Date published: Wednesday 31st January 2018 8:54 Jurgen Klopp described Liverpool’s display as “mature” after they won at Huddersfield as the boss provided updates and Virgil van Dijk and Danny Ings. Goals from Emre Can and Roberto Firmino, plus Mohamed Salah’s 26th goal of the season from the penalty spot, secured Klopp’s side a comfortable 3-0 win at Huddersfield. Liverpool had gone 18 games unbeaten before following up their recent league defeat at Swansea by losing to West Brom in the FA Cup, but a sixth win in eight games lifted them level on points with Chelsea. “That was the reaction we needed to show,” Klopp said. “Everybody saw it was not brilliant, it wasn’t our best game we played so far. “But it was very mature and very deserved. The best thing we did apart from scoring was our counter-pressing and we defended situations when Huddersfield won the ball.” Can crashed home a stunning 25-yard opener via a slight deflection off Philip Billing’s foot and Firmino struck just before the break, squeezing the ball home from an unlikely angle for his 19th of the season. “We had a few fantastic situations early in the game,” Klopp added. “Robbo (Andrew Robertson) in behind, Mo Salah pretty much alone, Sadio twice, so we had more moments than three goals.” Klopp also admitted that Virgil van Dijk missed Liverpool’s victory over Huddersfield because of a “physical thing”. During a post-match interview with reporters, Klopp insisted that a “physical thing” as well as Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren’s long-term relationship were the reasons for leaving Van Dijk on the bench. The Reds ran away with victory against the Terriers thanks to first-half goals from Emre Can and Roberto Firmino, before Mohamed Salah added the icing on the cake with a second-half penalty. “It was exactly what we needed,” said Klopp. “It was not a brilliant performance, but it was very mature and exactly what we needed at the right moment. “We could have done better, but we scored the first goal, we maybe gave one situation away, but it was difficult for Huddersfield to counter-attack. It was very mature and exactly what we needed. “You need to win all the time, we know that. Coming back on track is the most important thing and now we have a few days to prepare for another difficult game against Tottenham. There is an open bill and we need to pay that back. “Tonight we were better and the midfield did well with the counter press and that helped the back line. It was nearly perfect, not the performance, the result.” When quizzed about possible transfer dealings before the end of deadline day tomorrow, Klopp – after brushing off several questions – only said: “No chance (Danny) Ings is on the market, only if I am unconscious”. |

Going by those comments, recent run outs, and letting Sturridge go, it looks like Klopp sees a lot in Ings. I think we'll be seeing a bit of him over the next while. He deserves a crack and I hope it works out for him and us. |
