' Intent' as a prerequisite of a foul was removed from the Laws several years ago (now applies only for handball). This has subsequently produced the diving and simulation that we see today, as referees no longer have to consider whether any trip, kick or push is deliberate, just whether or not it happened...
That plus the changes in the offside law have made football a mockery and left everything open to abuse or interpretation which is too loose with so much at stake.

I would have thought commonsense would prevail.

How come so much pulling and pushing is allowed in the penalty area without punishment and obviously the game should be finally designated as non contact.

If a player clears the ball and then collides with another then it should result in a free kick regardless if this is the case nowadays, or a pen if in the area .

If a Gk bashes into a player whilst coming out to punch or catch a ball then that also should be a penalty.

The laws are now mostly the PROBLEM within the game.
Dickie, I don't think that the offside law is a bad one. What is missing is a consistent interpretation by officials. The interpretation for the lacking offside call for the first penalty flies in the face of the rule interpretations since the last rule change. It was a bad call, not a bad rule.
The second penalty call was a bad dive from a desperate prolific diver with a reputation for doing exactly that. This linesman should be demoted for a clear bias in both decisions. Klopp's anger was quite rightly directed against the man with the flag.

This inconsistency is due to the complications with the rule.

Offside should be offside regardless of interference, phases of play etc etc. If the attacker is beyond the last defender before the ball is player he's offside. Simple rule simple interpretation simple upholding of rule....

Karius 7
Taa 7
Lovern 7
Van dyke 7
Robinson 7
Hendo 7
Can 5
Milner 6
Salah 8. ( what a player,, who thought we paid to much ?)
Firmino 4 ( unlike bobby)
Mane 5 ( looks out of form)

Subs .... meh!

Spurs deserved the point, they were the better team for large parts of the game.
We struggled to get out of our half at times,
We struggled to get out of our own end because we defended deep in the second half for the most part. The midfielders were covering the defence, which is why the defenders looked so much better than they have during their worst performances this season. The down side was that it was difficult to move the ball upfield through the well organised Spurs midfield. We resorted to long balls. It almost succeeded, with Salah's great individual goal. Spurs first goal was superb, however, but the second was a disgrace.
It must have been Firmino's worst game for the club, but he will bounce back.
I'd say that was bobbys worst performance of the season, he could not hold the ball up, kept losing possesion, passes going astray , it's not like bobby at all, every player will have an off day.

Pochetino told his players, keep playing the spaces will come, no team can keep up the pressing for a full 90 minutes .
We needed to keep possession for longer, during the second half, just to take the pressure off the defence.

Take your points,Richie, but bodily contact in itself is not regarded as foul play: It has to be specific:kicking, pushing, tripping, pulling, holding an opponent. General body contact in the hurly-burly of a game will be penalized only if it appears to be violent or dangerous. Going honestly for the ball, in the ref's opinion, is OK, unless it falls into one of the categories mentioned. Inadvertent contact of the type you describe SHOULD be unpunished, but of course it occasionally is.
All the pushing and pulling in the box usually occurs whilst the ball is'dead', before a corner or freekick is actually taken and therefore can't be punished by a freekick or penalty, but once the ball is in play, then it's the officials' responsibility to apply the Laws as they stand. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't...

So Karius has a good game and it has been leaked we have a GK consultant in to help. Must be a coincidence though :)

Goalkeeper consultant ! You'd think they'd be able to sort it out themselves, Klopp and his coaches should join Kop This , there's plenty on here who could offer advice

That was Karius first non shit game in goal. Made two fine point blank stops , saved a PK , probably didn’t trip Kane on their first PK and should of maybe cleared the ball better before the Wanyama belter.

I’m cheering for him to get better. At least to become more reliable than Mignolet ever was which isn’t saying much.

Well, Courtois is considered one of Europe's best. Yesterday he gave away a penalty, without saving it. And let in four goals. He pointed the finger at the 'diving' forward, but I don't know his excuse about the other three goals.

Marginal pen Cam. Thought the refereeing equally shit in this match.

Sending off was horrendous for a professional sport. Not that we haven''t seen it before, but the offended player basically had his toe stepped on in a late challenge, and you might be forgiven for thinking Ali had just clocked him in the 10th.

Reminded me of this nasty football hit....... care of Ozzie Man - at 29 seconds in - not the AFL real hit.

Some references to the fist pump by the linesman after Spurs awarded a 2nd pen. Considering linesmen won't even stop a ball going out of play for playyers etc, then pretty fucking odd for a linesman to show any sort of emotion after a decision. And for what, a decision he overturned that was suspect at best? Or a bet he was in line to cash in on? Fist pump his ass, I say.

You think that was bad? How about the match official at the end of our Cup Final defeat to Arsenal in 71. That is just bloody weird.
