Klopp: I don’t think nine points from Arsenal is enough Date published: Sunday 11th February 2018 7:01 Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists Arsenal are still in the fight for a top four position in the Premier League despite his side building a nine-point gap on their rivals. Goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah fired the Reds back up to third place in the Premier League table above Tottenham and two points behind second-placed Manchester United. Salah set up the Brazilian for the opener just seven minutes in and the Egyptian winger grabbed his 22nd league goal of the season shortly before half-time thanks to a clever assist from Firmino. Southampton, who were up against their former defender Virgil van Dijk on his return to St Mary’s, end the weekend in the relegation zone as their quest for a first home league win since November continues. And Klopp was just pleased to get the game out of the way with another three points on the board. “It was not a brilliant performance, not everything worked quite well, the wind was quite strange,” Klopp told BBC Sport. “It was difficult circumstances and we did the job. That is very important. “We scored early, got the second goal in the right moment and then controlled the game. “We don’t have normal weekends anymore. We want to finish the season top four and we need the points. I don’t think nine points from Arsenal is enough to have rest but it is nine points. There is a lot to go for and we will try to carry on like today.” |
