every now and again players need dropping and managers like to call it resting players but in private have words with players who need a kick up the arse who are not doing there share and downing is certainly one of those players along with carroll ,was carroll rested yesterday ???????? was he fuck he hasnt deserved to be in the team and his 5 minutes on the pitch yesterday was enough to keep him on the bench falling over losing the ball the guy just isnt good enough but the blinkered just dont see it .
Rotation.
so kenny can never drop a player   bullshit
Of course he can. Chill.
so why are you saying rotation ? downing has been poor in his last few games maxi comes in and scores so whether he has been dropped or rested he shouldnt play in place of maxi who deserves to keep his place.only kenny knows the truth and thats the way it should be.
Downing hasn't been poor. Maxi came in and done well, so he has staked a claim for a start in the next match. It is good for us to have this competition.
it is good to have this competition for places but how you can say downing hasn't been poor just emphasizes your blinkered opinion of our players.

No, it just emphasises that I'm not thick. I watch the game and take notice of what happens throughout, not just the goals.

Perhaps poor is a little strong but he's not set the world alight either.

well i think most posters have said downing has struggled of late bar the england game were he played well and whether kenny dropped or rested him it should be hard for him to get his place back seeing how well maxi did thats for certain.

I don't care what most posters have said. Opinions seem to be led by whatever the papers or media say. I see things for myself, as do a lot of other LFC fans.
Downing, Maxi and Bellamy could all play. Kuyt could be benched again. The movement as well as the passing was really good in places yesterday - Downing is more than capable of fitting into that kind of set up.

i dont buy rags and haven't done so for nearly a decade but when many posters say a player is playing bad its usually the case that they aren't playing to there best ability and need a kick up the arse or a word in the ear either way i hope downing reacts to not starting yesterday for the good of the team.

No need to bring the opinion of other posters into it - your opinion should be all that matters to you.
Downing will be fine, the team will be fine, and whichever lineup Kenny picks for City, I'm sure we'll give it a real go.

well my opinion was that he wasnt playing well and i was glad he wasnt in the line up as he needs to play more consistant to keep his place and he has a fight on his hands now with maxi doing well it might just make him up his game .

The thing about Maxi and Bellamy is that they are very versatile, being able to play anywhere behind the striker, or even up front. Any combination of Bellamy, Downing, Kuyt, Maxi along with Suarez and Gerrard is doable in different formations and systems. Very encouraging.

when many posters say a player is playing bad its usually the case (quote) Wrong again. Most posters do not equate to most supporters. There is a high proportion of complainers on this forum (maybe most forums), and it certainly is not a good cross representation of the fans. And when Maxi had played as many games as Downing, you were ready to condemn him and move him along. Maxi took a year to adapt, but you don't allow the same to Downing. Fortunately Kenny knows better than you do, which is why he is the manager and you are not.

in my opinion 442 is one of the problems we have had this season and a reason why we are not getting the best out of some of our players . most teams are playing 5 in midfield so at some point in the game we will run out of steam and ideas.
some players are suited to different formations . personally i dont think we get the best out of lucas or adam in a 442. downing and hendo suffer because the supply out wide is not often enough and when they do receive the ball they are often isolated.when crosses are coming into the box theres not enough players in the box because lucas and adam are not getting up in support. lucas and adam are getting out numbered in there also .
under rafa maxi looked very poor because of the formation .maxi hasnt just become a better player because hes been here a year longer ,last season kk played a formation that suited the players especially maxi and rm to a tee. at times last season we had 5 players in the middle allowing players to run from deep into the box without fear of leaving wide open spaces behind them.players were allowed freedom and allowed to express themselves ,some of the players who looked poor under rafa and hodgson suddenly looked very good players.
lets face it kk hasnt gone out and bought crap players ,paid well over the top for some ,i think most would agree. in my opinion we are not getting the best out of them because they are played in the wrong system. its no coincidence that adam played his best game so far in a red shirt because he had more support in midfield and he was allowed to get forward knowing he was well covered behind him.

There is nothing wrong with Kenny's tactics in playing Downing, Carroll, etc. in an attacking formation, when it's appropriate. We have had many chances to win games this way, but we have failed to take them. The failure was in the finishing, not the tactics. But you can't win against teams like Spurs and Chelsea doing that. Kenny changed his tactics last Sunday, and it worked well. Kenny didn't do that against Spurs, and our midfield was overrun. I don't hink Kenny will repeat the player selection and tactics in the return match against Spurs.

Yeah, that was certainly a game changer.
