Kenny Dalglish insists he is building for the long-term future at Liverpool and isolated results - good or bad - have no bearing on that plan. The Reds were rightly lauded for the way they played, particularly in the first half, in last weekend's 2-1 win at Chelsea. Another huge match awaits on Sunday when Premier League leaders Manchester City visit Anfield but Dalglish stressed the victory at Stamford Bridge has to be taken in the same context as the likes of disappointing draws at home to Norwich and Swansea. "We don't need to use one game to give us an incentive to bite on and look to the future," said the Scot. "We look a lot further ahead than that. We are not going to get carried away with one game whether we have won or lost. "We are looking to progress and build something here that is going to last for a long time and I think we are moving in the right direction. "Whether Sunday is a positive result or not we will have to see but it won't be a determining factor on the progress of the club." The win over Chelsea saw Liverpool win most of the tactical battles as almost all of Dalglish's decisions paid off positively. Maxi Rodriguez rewarded the manager for his first league start of the season with the opening goal, assisted by Craig Bellamy who was also given a rare start, while the introduction of Jordan Henderson to strengthen the midfield with an attacking impetus after the break helped wrest back some control from the hosts. The Reds boss, while not saying the team at Stamford Bridge had been a 'horses for courses' selection, said certain players were sometimes picked for certain situations. "I don't think anything just comes about. We know our players, how they can play and their attributes and we will play to them," he added. "We are more important than anyone we are playing against and if we do what we do right we will give anyone a difficult game. "We look at their assets and certainly Maxi is an asset but we won't go through what the assets of each and every player are. "But I think we know what our strengths are and what our individual strengths are and when we need to use them. "If we decide and make the right decision more often than we make the wrong ones, there will be an awful lot of smiley faces." Midfielder Charlie Adam had probably his best match for the club since joining in the summer. But Dalglish said the performance of the "discount" £6.75million signing from Blackpool was no surprise to him. "It only endorses what we thought when he came in first," he said. "Charlie certainly played well but there is nothing he has been doing which has been a surprise to us here. "He covered a fair bit of ground to get to John Obi Mikel and won the ball back for us but he won the ball back on many occasions during the game but that one was highlighted more because it got us the (opening) goal. "His pass for the second goal (by Glen Johnson) was sublime as well. "He was someone we wanted in January and we never got but we were patient and we got a discount on him this summer. "I don't think he has been a bad bit of business but I don't think he will sit on his laurels either; he wants to push on onwards and upwards and so do we." Dalglish has ruled captain Steven Gerrard, who has not played since October 22 because of an ankle infection, out of Sunday's visit of City. "Like we've already said, we are delighted with the progress he's making and we've said that we won't put a date on his return - and we won't put a date on it now," he said. "Everyone is available (for Sunday) apart from Steven and Jack Robinson." |

its good kenny isnt getting carried away on the back f the chelsea win. he tried a different team and it worked a treat.much more the lfc that we have known rather that what seems like a second string team.He needs to persist now and kick on...his mistakes in the market are well highlighted now imo...that can all be forgoten and forgiven if he leaves them out the team and from here on in plays the better players available.he can also learn in january that he has to be more astute if he is given funds to spend.for me astute will mean 2 top class midfielders arriving and the off loading of deadwood..allbeit new deadwood! |

they are never going to be the impact signings kenny must of hoped theyd be. crucialy from here on in you will rarely if ever see all four of them form the back bone of the team again.in fact if there is ever more than 2 of them in any starting line up in the LEAGUE it would be astounding.to that end kenny is doing what is right for the teams progress by leaving them out. |

God stop talking utter mince. Never seen so many special conditons in a single paragraph. "rarely if ever" "form the backbone" "more than two of them" "starting lineup in the LEAGUE" "crucialy from here on in you will rarely if ever see all four of them form the back bone of the team again" Let's frame that. No further questions. |

What are you talking about? The team has played better with the four you mention in it, than it has with them out of it. |

The Chelsea game is not the best we've played - not nearly. We took our chances and rode our luck. You say had the four played Chelsea would have won easily - to me that is like something an idiot child would come away with, and is total tripe. |

haha!..entitled to your opinion of course... i realy do believe you are out of touch tbh soccty, with lfc. you are aplauding crap performances like swansea norwich and looking for positives in them when the answers stare you in the face.it must of stared kenny in the face too and he done something to rectify it.now you say it was luck at chelsea that the team won.it wasnt.it was because kenny reverted to trusted methods and players that were actualy interested. for a long time you have accused me of being negative and or manc etc..well you are now seeing gerrard and kenny basicly saying fook you lot we dont make excuses at this club.if you are hsit you are out the team.full stop.couldnt give a fook how much they cost or how much extra training you do...if you are hsit you are not in the line up..tough luck and if you moan about it we will fook you right off!!.. thats the ethos of liverpool fc soccty.may be alien to you but not to me its not. not about not trusting kenny saying about signings..no its more about saying to kenny.. kenny wtf is going on with him hes no good.kenny being "one of us"..ie.true fan..(not the type youd refer to soccty as you deem others not of your ilk)..he'll turn around and say i know but just give it a bit and i'll fook them right off if they arent. thats exactly what hes doing now soccty.lets see who knows the man best afterall eh!! |

If I'm out of touch, then so is Kenny. He signed those players you are calling deadwood after a dozen games. He has played them consistently in the team, and will continue to do so. Norwich was a match we should have had wrapped up by half time - not a poor performance. Poor finishing cost us. Swansea was a poor performance, but still we should have won it had we taken our chances. So had Chelsea scored immediately after they equalised - when Reina pulled off a wonder save - and gone on to win despite our late onslaught, would you still be backing Kenny's judgement? Or would you be sitting saying Maxi and Bellamy were ineffective too? "We have Kenny and Gerrard basicly saying fook you lot we don't want excuses at this club" They never actually said anything of the sort did they? You've made every word of that up, apart from "Kenny" and "Gerrard". The rest of your post is almost unintelligible. |

well id expect you to deny the last bit..seens as you were one the word basicly tells you im summing up their real position and as you say you dont understand the real true fans stance on matters..that understandable given your own posts and stance on the team. gerrard did tell them to shape up.. coming after aggers headless chicken comments. kenny then left the 3 prime movers out. yes he bought them and for that im disapointed in him.however he knows they are detrimental to the team so imo from now on they wont be regulars apart from adam. |
