Fao: Sonnyjim; Aquilani waits on Rodgers

Legendary Reds
Alberto Aquilani's agent says the Liverpool midfielder is waiting to discover if he will be in the plans of new manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Italy international moved to Anfield in 2009 from Roma and he made 28 appearances in all competitions during his debut season at the club.

However, he spent the 2010/11 campaign on loan at Juventus before returning to Serie A with AC Milan last term for another season-long spell.

He is now due back at Liverpool after Milan did not take up their initial option to sign Aquilani permanently and the 27-year-old is awaiting a decision from Rodgers.
Intentions

"The new Liverpool coach will decide Alberto's fate," Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia said to Italian radio station Radio Mana Mana.

"We will have to wait and see what he thinks about the player and whether Alberto will be of any use to the Reds.

"Alberto has a contract at Liverpool for another two years and they will let us know about their intentions soon.

"He would be happy to stay at Liverpool if he was given the right opportunities."

Reports in Italy claimed Milan were keen to acquire Aquilani on a permanent transfer provided the player would terminate his contract with Liverpool, however, his agent has denied those rumours.

Zavaglia said: "If Milan had wanted to sign him then they should have made their move sooner."

I'd love Aqua to come back into the fold if his head is right. Highly skilled footballer who would be well suited to the pass and move way Rodgers wants us to play.

I don't believe Aquilani will stay. I'll repeat it for the hard of hearing it was Aquilani who asked Hodgson to go on loan as he was homesick.

My source who gave me that info in April 2011 said AA wouldn't stay for last season.

I will ask the source what the situation is now. We are crying out for a playmaker in centre midfield. Adam is too slow and thought and deed. Henderson ain't ready.

We shall see what happens?

JB, That has been public knowledge for two years for true Reds, but I would not expect you  or the resident arch-fantasist  to keep up with events...

Don't think Henderson will ever be a playmaker. Takes a very specific type of player for that role.

No, Purslow got stick for loaning Aquilani out. I haven't heard that he was homesick before until SJ just posted it then.

He has about 80,000 reasons not to be homesick though...

Soctty, I thought it was well known that Bertie hadn't settled in England. Purslow was only too willing to get rid due to his purge to get rid of foreigners but I heard it was AA who asked to leave.

AA must be furious with AC Milan - he was playing well for them up until a slight injury in the New Year. He had played and scored a winner against Spain at the end of 2011.

Milan's reluctance to play him, their prevarication over the appearances clause cost him his transfer, his international spot and arguably from what their supporters were saying the league title.

It's time for some definitive action by BR on this saga.

or aquilani is not as good as we are led to believe.....and not even good enough for an international call up?

to be honest, I'm surprised he didn't go to the Euros. Played 9 times last year for Italy.

I will try as best as I can to spell it out for John Boy

Milan were reluctant to play him at the end of last season seeing as they were going to have to stump up £7million euros. He played 24.5 times I believe just below the 25 match triggering point.

Milan have signed Riccardo Montolivio on a free transfer from Fiorentina and are trying to get AA for less money.

AA is not a poor player but he wasn't playing matches as explained above - Micah Richards (yeah him who you always wants us to sign) and Adam Johnson also failed to make the England squad for exactly the same reason they were not playing in City's matches at the end of the season.

Is that clear now

If we are too progress we need quality players, so if his head is right I would rather see Aquilani in our centre midfield than the likes of Charlie Adam. The gulf in ability between them is huge.

woaw woaw hold the phone.....24.5 appearances? lmao! that was cutting it fine lol

so for an alleged italian superstar who was valued at £30mil when fit....cannot be sold to any italian team for £5mil? come on.....£5mil.....think about it.....forget about milan......any....i mean any.....italian team.....?

if he was that good....surely he would be in the squad like lucas was in the last world cup?

not sure why micah and johnson were not selected. micah must have had some disagreements with representing U21. johnson is a good player but hasnt done anything of note....like aquilani. then again downing hasnt done anything either. downing is a bit part player for england it seems, with milner, young, walcott and the ox preferred options - and imo - rightly so.

do you feel the time has come to accept aquilani was a mistake and not as good as the hype that surrounded him? he has done nothing in his entire career...and has been injury prone. the main thing is....he has done nothing for us.....and doesnt even want to play for us.

£5mil.....no one wants him for £5mil.....

Italy are better than England, and have far more good players. Also, Gerrard is better than Aquilani.

Sorry if this is difficult for your tiny mind to grasp.

*cringe*

Who alleged he was a superstar? The only one building him up here to that standard is you - just so you can knock him down again. And all because of who signed him. Sad.

if he was that good....surely he would be in the squad like lucas was in the last world cup?

Lucas wasn't at the centre of an attempt to get him for free by a team he was on loan to, by not playing him so that the automatic fee was triggered. Is any of this getting through?

not sure why micah and johnson were not selected. micah must have had some disagreements with representing U21. johnson is a good player but hasnt done anything of note....like aquilani. then again downing hasnt done anything either. downing is a bit part player for england it seems, with milner, young, walcott and the ox preferred options - and imo - rightly so.

"Micah must have had some disagreements with representing U21" - well that explains it, now that you've blurted out some speculative nonsense that makes zero sense.

do you feel the time has come to accept aquilani was a mistake and not as good as the hype that surrounded him? he has done nothing in his entire career...and has been injury prone. the main thing is....he has done nothing for us.....and doesnt even want to play for us.

Everyone has already accepted Aquilani was a mistake, for several reasons. His injury when he arrived kept him out longer than we envisaged, putting more pressure on him when he did play. Purslow slung him out on loan, with speculation that Aquilani was homesick. Comolli then did likewise next season, so the player hasn't had much of a chance to play and prove himself here.

"Has done nothing in his entire career" - he's done more than Erkisen, Shaqiri and Defoe. ;)

£5mil.....no one wants him for £5mil.....

Aquilani's signing has been a disaster. He's still our player though so there is still time for him to redeem himself to a small extent. I'm guessing you'll give him full credit if he does come back and play well, and won't continue to mock him as you've done for the past three years?

What do you mean by statistics?

Assists? You right them off
Pass Completion? You right that off
Chances Creation? You right that off

Basically it means that if JB decides he's played well, he's played well. And if he decides otherwise, then he hasn't.

It's a foolproof way of looking at things...
