Nothing at all to do with justifying his actions. I think he screwed the pooch on Alonso a bit. However, xabi left on his own free will to go to the biggest club in world football so he is hardly a victim

Find me one person lame enough to use the term "geranium" (other than you) and I'll be very surprised.

Find me one person who said Alonso was shite for two seasons, and I'll be even more surprised.

Alonso is a great player, and did very well for us and very well from us. He's also very clever. He managed to desert us without incurring the same wrath as Torres did. Make no mistake, all this talk of bust ups, and him feeling unwanted and being mismanaged are a fantastic distraction from the fact that he left of his own free will, despite being wanted by the fans, the club and the manager. He left and secured a massive pay rise under a more favourable tax regime, and the chance to play for another one of the biggest teams in the world in his home country.

I still really like him as a player, and as a person, but I do laugh at how gullible a lot of fans are.

Yeah, YOU!!

So it's more gullible to believe that the player moved for a massive increase in his salary, with far more favourable net take home pay due to tax rates in Spain, and a situation where he wouldn't lose out the way he was with the terrible exchange rate, and that he moved because of the draw of one of the biggest clubs in the world offering him a return home for him and his family?

Or is it more gullible to believe the player moved because the manager was willing to let him go the season before, and despite the fans, players and manager of the club now wanting him to stay - at a club he claims to still have great affection for?

He's certainly got you taking it all ways mycroft...

Benitez held a grudge over Alonso's refusal to listen to him, his missus was going into labour, Alonso refused Benitez's instruction to put a game before the birth of his child....& rightly so i may add, it's as simple as that!!

Any other nonsense that other fantasists would like to imagine 'happened' can counter with their usual rafapology cccrap, but this one will not wash, Benitez was out of bloody order, a cold hearted reaction from an egotist who openly flirted with the idea of replacing the brilliant Xabi Alonso with the shiteness of Gareth Barry!!

Alonso was not wanted by Benitez and so who can blame him for leaving? This had far more to do with somebody who doesn't like being told that some things are far bigger than one odd game ffs!! ;)

XABI ALONSO claims he did not feel wanted by Rafa Benitez during his time at Liverpool.
The Spanish midfielder left the Reds in the summer to join big-spending Real Madrid in a £30million switch.

He revealed he was unhappy at Kop boss Benitez's decision to openly pursue England ace Gareth Barry last year.

Alonso was almost sold to Juventus during that time, only for Aston Villa to block Barry's move to Merseyside.

The former Real Sociedad star ended up staying at Anfield last term and shone fantastically well in his midfield partnership with Javier Mascherano.

But the Spaniard says he did not get enough support from Benitez and that eventually forced him to leave the club.

Alonso told Champions Magazine: "Every now and again a player would appreciate a bit more closeness, a pat on the back, but Rafa is not that kind of guy at all."

Alonso married earlier in the summer with many liverpool colleagues present at the wedding in Spain, but Benitez was not invited to his wedding, sparking rumours of a rift between the pair.

He added: "I invited friends, players, coaches, I guess it's fair to say good people."

SOURCE: Champions Magazine

Xabi Alonso invited many ex-liverpool players, coaches, & people connected with the club including Pepe Reina, Arbeloa, Pako Ayesteran etc to his wedding, but Benitez was not even invited, totally justified for the way he was treated. :))

That's not a bad thing. In fact Torres said it was a bonus.Rafa was looking for constant improvement from all his players.

For crying out loud mycroft, move the f.uck on. Its so tedious having the same discussions over and over again.

Those who didn't like Rafa will not change their mind nor will those who did, so why attempt to turn the forum into Groundhog Day?

This is another quote from Xabi in the same interview. Doesn't fit your hysterical shrieking though.

Alonso was wanted by Rafa - hence the reason he played every match when fit. As stated there were no instructions from Rafa at the Inter game - he merely said that we couldn't wait on Xabi. It's true he wasn't happy, but that's as far is it went.
