ALsonso's last season with us was probably his very best, and it changed his personal valuation from 10 million to 30 million overnight. Personally think we'd have taken half of that to get shut of him at the time. As it was, Rafa likely bit their hands off on that one. Best bit of business we ever did before the 50 Million joke thing. Alonos had some pretty ordinary seasons at Liverpool too. Was not gifted with pace but was a sweet footballer, no question. In teams like Madrid and Spain, he's in his comfort zone were he can spray it about. Fits him like a glove. Put him at the heart of a Liverpool team, and he's quite often overrun for pace and teams simply playing higher up the park, as oppose to what has become the customary "#68 Bus to Tuebrook" playing for Spain & Madrid. Not knocking Alonso personally. I always liked him as a player, but he was not without his critics for large parts of his time here at Anfield. Not a great tackler, and lacked great pace. Both of which matter little when you suit up for Spain. Matter a lot to reds fans that want us to be in the Champions League or bust. To have a post like this criticising Rafa (perhaps correctly in how Alonso was shaded out of the side during the Barry cart Horse fiasco), is pointless. Hindsight is 20/20 when you see Alonso winning World Cups with Spain and easily forget some of the sub par matches he nevertheless had for Liverpool. Pressure makes even the best players look average and panic. |

i disagree HW. alonso played well in almost all of his games. he had 2 serious injuries which made him come in and out of the team but he played well in almost all his games. he fell out of favour with 'some' supporters when he fell out of favour with rafa following the inter milan episode. losing alonso was a huge impact on the team. |

122 in your pocket mycroft that is. Spain will ride this no problem and people there realy are not too bothered about it...its far worse in england than it is there. Now is an ideal time to buy in spain if you like the country and understand it. The reason spain will be ok is because they invested the euro money they got in roads, motorways, sanitation, airports, railways ...revitalised the country....whereas greece done nothing with the money. Spain is fine ...dont believe all the hype n propoganda the english government love to dish out.....deflects from their own disaterous policies to do so. one euro fifty for a pint of beer if your a drinker.. 38 cents for a can of pepsi.. still far cheaper than ripoff britain. part of the reason prices went up in spain is because people got fed up of tourists going there wanting cheap freebies and decided it was time they made a bit of money themselves..... and the coffee...superb....those cesspits costa coffee ,etc here are shamefully bad. |

1.24 euro in a bureau de change in london mate. I have good friends who live in Magaluf & Majorca & they they just simply cannot afford to go out anymore as it's far too expensive & most people just shop from the supermarkets nowadays, resulting in why so many restaurants & bars are closing down at an alarming rate. With unemployment at 25% nationally & rising, tourism is very much on the wane. Infact a very high percentage of spanish people have left Spain to seek out work in the UK, with many heading for London. The typical cost of eating & drinking out: Three-course restaurant meal (Menu Del Dia) 20 to 30 Fast-food meal 8 to 12 Coffee in cafι 2.80 Beer in bar 4 to 6 Box of 20 Malboro Lights cigarettes 8 Bar/Club Entry Free to 20 Cinema Ticket 8 to 10 It's alright for a weeks holiday, but it would destroy your pocket now to live there. Croatia & Bulgaria knocks spots off Spain now in comparison, that's a fact, the weather is just as good, the prices are twenty times cheaper, a holiday shouldn't be a time for rubbing the pennies together!! In 2012, depending upon location, it is possible to buy the following Spanish property types at the following prices: Brand new, 3-bedroom apartments (pisos) in a provincial town for around 120,000 Euros A town house (adosado) for around 160,000 to 220,000 Euros A 3-bedroom villa (chalets) with a pool for around 260,000 Euros. Bloody expensive!!

 ok i get the drift you dont like spain mycroft lol Its true these rip off english bars like linikers and london pubs charge extortionate prices...so avoid them and go were the spanish go to eat..if its full of spanish folk its a sure sign its a good place to eat...only bad meal you get in spain is from these dirty greasy english bars out there!! yes but 124 minus commission Bulgaria is a dangerous place tbh..full of those shifty sharks you dont like. bulgarian property is mostly very badly constructed wheras most spanish new apartments are realy nice. Its about finding ones own niche i guess....danny lives in greece n loves it he says so despite the economy there it works for him..cool!..and if bulgaria is your spot ..cool too...take up skiing n i sell you apatment..good price for you today!! |

yeah JB, after re-reading my post it might come across I was not an alonso fan, whihc is deffo not the case. I liked him, but was trying to point out that he still had many detractors while playing at Anfield. I think most were surprised Madird came in with 30 Million for him, when a year or two earlier, half that would have been suitable. I am still correct about his overall lack of pace and ferocity in tackles, but nothing unusual in that for a playmaker. He's proven many wrong with several good years at Madrid and acnhoring the worlds best national team, and now, those that abused him while with us would likely have him back in a heart beat. I still feel his style better suited to Madrid and Spain, then slogging it in games against Stoke an West Ham, who may care less for sitting back in the middle of the park. |

Just back from a month in Florida. 3 Bedroom condos in gated community with pool and execise rooms going for $100K US. Probably around 65K sterling. You can't beat that. You can buy a decent 3-4 bedroom house with a pool for 150K. Worth checking if you're inclined. |

RM, Linekers is in Tenerife, not a real advertisement for the REAL Spain mate.... However, despite what you say Spain is in a bad, bad way... Read this: Bondholders fear losses in Spain bailout By Mary Watkins June 25, 2012 4:57 pm http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/89d629d8-beab-11...l#axzz1z2WPH8dy Then Read this: Debt crisis: Spain requests bailout to save banks Spain is asking for an international bailout to rescue its debt-laden banking sector, its finance minister announced tonight, as sources suggested the package could total £81bn. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financi...save-banks.html By the way, Bulgaria is NOT full of 'sharks' & it's not just about winter resorts, many of it's Summer resorts are far better, unspoilt, beautiful places to visit & experience, & it's not just about cheap drink & meals at Restaurants either. The properties are just as well built if not better than Spanish ones, i should know i own several of them, & have seen them built from scratch!! Also, Spain financial crisis: Sun setting on expats' Costa dreams As the financial crisis in Spain deepens, British expats are finding that life is becoming increasingly hard. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...sta-dreams.html <_< |

The methods used to build a place i got there were rubbish mycroft...prices plummeted in bulgaria...you cant give them away...try selling n see! Spain on the other hand...welll... has it all and spain is not on its knees at all...christ! whats the unemployment figures here ffs...time they adressed that isnt it instead of blasting spains. Im refering to the costa del sol with linikers and the like ...london in the sun as its known sometimes. The ex pats in spain who are moaning and returning are the same ones that lambasted britain when they left and said they were glad to see the back of the place....strange then they return!.... I agree its no place to start a buisness.Interesting stories mycroft but just as easy to see same here too.Best to live or visit a country for the love of it imo than to ever go there to fleece it or with wrong motives. Personaly i find spanish people extremely friendly and once their ways are understood you see how clever they realy are (try that with rafa, mycroft lol haha!) ...whereas bulgarians would rob you at the slightest chance. holly...does the danger of hurricanes in florida deter many to buy there...seems so but i hear its great there, never been myself. Anyone ntice how spain ..and alonso..often played out of danger in defence last night ...was thinking if it was carragher hed of just whacked it upfield. |

I've been with my wife for a decade & she's Bulgarian & has NOT robbed me once, fooking thank you very much!! You've been experiencing the wrong side of Bulgaria from what i can read, probably Romany Gypsies, they're the ones who like to descend upon the tourists in places like Bansko, Pamporovo & Borovets, Winter Skiing Apartments, which are very much different from the Black Sea Summer resorts. Like i said before i've got friends in Spain, both Spanish & English & they BOTH say the country's been ruined by the euro & all the Spanish that have left mainland Spain for the UK & London also say that the euro is the root cause for it's spiralling out of control unemployment, as do all the financial experts & Spanish economists newspapers, think your talking very naively about Spain mate. Got nothing against Spain at all, shame what's happened to the country, used to love going on holiday to places like Puerto Pollensa & Cadaques, but not anymore, far too expensive, as it is even for the locals. <_< |

welll i was refering to the bulgarian men not the ladies mycroft  noo its not naive realy its logic. Spain has benefited greatly from the euro and has alot to show for it...pre euro was very dated with infastructure. People prepared to ride out the risk now will again flourish in 8 to 10 years time. To hell with the british attitude of "we are british ,we are superior" wich alot of brits there have. Viva Espana! |

I've many Bulgarian friends, & i can con firm that the Women are alot more pretty than e men are!! It's got fook-all to do with 'ex-pat brits abroad', i'm talking about how the SPANISH PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THE DESTRUCTIVE EURO, but nevertheless, you can't just casually dismiss what is happening in Spain economically by spiralling out of control high unemployment, LOCAL SPANISH hatred of the euro, Restaurants, Bars, Supermarkets all closing down because nobody has any money anymore!! <_< The euro has literally been the root cause of thousands of deaths throughout the EU because of the cost of living rose to such a great extent that old folk could not afford to buy even the most simplest of basic groceries as Milk, Bread, Butter, Cheese, Vegetables etc, it's shocking what has happened to the likes of Greece, Portugal, Spain, really bad indeed. Believe me, the local Spanish people couldn't give a flying fook about the EU highway schemes which is bleeding 'em dry, & are really angry about Brussels intervention, & resent having to pay massive tax hikes in order to pay for new roads ffs!! |

a little pain now for a better tomorrow!!.. those brits moaning were feasting on 1.80 at first with the euro. spanish folk DO like the euro and only the much older folk...75 plus.. would prefer to return to the days of Franco. imo the route behind alot of the euro problem is Germany... still inherent in them to want to control the world and they have tried to do so in modern times by virtue of the ecconomy as oposed to the brute force of hitler. That said its good uk stayed out of the euro...particulary from a numismatic point of view too!! |

Well, the deal is this. Most hurricanes can be seen 3-4 days in advance, and they can usually predict landfall aareas. Most places our built to Hurricane standard, but they would still evacuate to perhaps 100-200 miles from landfall. Regardless, you still get pelted with buckets of rain in Hurrican seaseon. Usually between June and August. If there is no storm, then its bloody 90 degrees hot. Still 80 when there is a storm, The one thing you know you are getting in the US - particularly in a spot like Florida, is clean water, clean food, plus top service from any tourist operator (e/g/ bar, restaurant, even shop owner). Plus no language bother. If you have a bit of coin to toss at a plae, then well worth considering, though a little bird has informed me that the US banks (in this election year), are sitting on a bunch of new foreclosures, in an attempt to keep current sales levels higher, an maintain a little feel good for Obama. Otherwise, the forecast might be another dip in house prices when the banks release their current inventory to the open market. Bit of a sisk for the next 12 months, but you literally cannot build some of these places for what they have been selling for. Deals all over the shop. Need to take a holiday and suss it out for yourself. |
