Home News Local Liverpool owner 'hints at stadium decision' Liverpool owner 'hints at stadium decision' News Home More from Local Wednesday, June 27th 2012 11:29 John Henry tweeted a link to an architect's website Liverpool owner, John Henry, has increased speculation the club will stay at Anfield, rather than build a new stadium on Stanley Park. Henry has tweeted a link to a blog by architect, Peter McGurk, which contains plans for a redevelopment of the Reds' current home. Here is the blog... http://petermcgurk.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Anfield ***CLICK PLAY TO HEAR FROM STEVE ROTHERAM*** Walton MP, Steve Rotheram, said: "It appears they are preparing the ground for an announcement that will say the plans for a brand new stadium on Stanley Park have been shelved, and instead they will redevelop on a much increased footprint on the present site. "I think part of the problem is people will always second guess and read between the lines as to what has been said, and what's not included. "I think if a development goes ahead, then it can act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the area. "As soon as something concrete comes out, I think there'll be a sigh of relief for those people who are having to live in the conditions around the stadium." |

taken from sky Continuing discussions between Liverpool and the city council over the club's stadium plans are encouraging, according to mayor Joe Anderson. Liverpool have still to make a decision on whether to press ahead with the £300million-plus proposal to build a new ground in Stanley Park or redevelop Anfield. Choosing the former option is dependent on a multi-million pound naming rights deal being in place, while the latter plan requires a number of planning obstacles to be overcome. A July deadline for a decision has been allowed to slip as talks continue but Liverpool mayor Anderson is optimistic a decision acceptable to all parties can be reached. "We are in regular meetings with Liverpool FC and we are working with the club," he told the Liverpool Echo. "It's frustrating for the local residents and they are my main concern. "We are pushing for a speedy resolution to the issue of whether the club stays at Anfield or goes to Stanley Park but we are encouraged by the discussions." |

So the local residents are their main concern. LFC are not in any discussions with the residents as far as I am aware and the houses in Lothair Road are the responsibility of the council, so I am told. Also informed that the empty houses have been left to fall into disrepair and there are plagues of pigeons and rats in the empty houses which impinge on those with residents, a few who have young kids. Horrible conditions to allow properties to fall into. The same tactic appeared to be used on Anny road where the big houses were grade 2 listed buildings. They too were allowed to fall into disrepair and were targetted by vandals until they were deemed unsafe and had to be demolished. What I cannot understand is that it has been obvious for the better part of nearly a decade IMO that Anfield was going to be Expanded and yet nobody has had the foresight or ability to bring the project together in a reasoned manner . It has been mismanaged by successive owners including Moores. Surely the new owners could intervene along with the council and come to some agreement with those people left in decent houses surrounded by derelicts , surely a reasoned approach and decent offer of a sort acceptable to those left there can be thrashed out to the benefit of all. Whatever happened to good solid diplomacy? I would personally love to see the redevelopment of Anfield come to fruition , but that also means the community of Anfield too because they live there 24/7 whereas we fans only go there as we please. |

DickWhite, I seem to remember reading that the city Council had already announced a few weeks ago that the homes in Lothair Road were all scheduled for demolition. And maybe some on Alroy Rd. on the stadium side. It was all chalked up to urban renewal. I don't see too many restrictions on Anfield Rd. expansion. The original demolition job was carried out there by a certain Herr Hitler on what were, at the time, nice homes, inhabited by rectors, doctors, and other professional people, most of them with orchards. The bombed out home opposite Lothair/Alroy on Anfield Rd. was my first playground. We kids swung on chandeliers and ran up the wooden frames of the bombed out staircase, dodging big rusty nails, and throwing objects at the pigeons. We also dared each other to poke metal bars into the electrical service box, straightening our hair in the process. Yep, the power was still connected, at least for a while after the war. I'm not sure how we all survived, but what doesn't kill you makes you strong. |
