Reds Linked To Schurrle

Die-hard Reds
Liverpool are interested in Bayer Leverkusen striker Andrea Schurrle.

The young Germany international has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea since the end of last season.

However, Caughtoffside.com reports Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is also keen on Schurrle, but will have to find at least £12 million to land him.

SOURCE: Yahoo Sports

Brendan Rodgers has a threadbare attack at present with Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy the club’s only recognised senior forwards and the former Swansea City may well believe this area of his squad is in need of the most urgent investment, hence his interest in the young German forward.

The adaptable attacker is currently at the Euro 2012 finals where he helped Germany to progress to the semi-final stage but may well return from Ukraine and Poland to talk of a possible move to Anfield. The 21 year old had a fairly average first season at the BayArena following his move to the Bayer Leverkusen from Mainz last summer but has impressed greatly whilst on national team duty.

Schurrle has racked up a very impressive tally of seven goals from 14 appearances for Joachim Low’s side and started Germany’s 4-2 win over Greece. The youngster can play in either an orthodox striking role or out wide on the flank and it’s this adaptability that is said to have brought the forward to the attention of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool will hope that negotiations to sign Schurrle would be helped by the fact that the player’s boss at Leverkusen is none other than former Reds defender Sami Hyypia, who is still highly thought of by the club’s supporters.

Chelsea are also interested in the attacker but perhaps the young German will feel that he is more likely to garner regular first team football at Anfield.

we've focussed on 'adaptability' too much. sounds like another functional player.

We already have Andy Carroll and even when Bellamy and Suarez leave he will surely guarantee us a top 4 place all on his own, no?

This starts smelling like the jan transfer window...we ll sign this and that and in the end we signed ###### all. Preseason starts in 2 weeks time if im not mistaken...Kd used the last window to showcase our dead wood, no much success there. Lets hope BR is given some money and he spends it wise .

ive not seen much of him but of the little i have seen he could be a top top player. He can play uptop or on the wings. for the right place i would have him in a heart beat, good pace, good technical abilitylikes to play pass and move, for his versatility we defo need someone of that ilk who can play on the wings but could be a 3rd/4th choice striker if needed.

He has lots of ability. Messi and Ronaldo are both adaptable players so it's not necessarily a bad attribute.
