Arbeloa, a left back, but who played like a left winger last night with skill and purpose.
Alonso, still a midfield master (Rafa lost his marbles in wanting to sell him for Barry - MADNESS)
Torres, left with a lot of baggage but still a class act, once he is back to full fitness.

And lastly, our SOLE AMIGO, Pepe Reina - still a great keeper.

To think we had these players at Liverpool (Pepe aside) and now what are we looking at, signing the likes of Victor Moses and the Steve Davies' of the world.

No disrespect to them but look at it this way. Carroll cost £35m and now Barca have signed Jorde Alba for £14m from Valencia and even worse, we signed Henderson for £20m.

Who would you buy ?

It makes you cry and that we have spent so much money on a pile of sh### !

I'm sorry to say but we are now a mid table mediocre team and unless we have a "sugar daddy" come along to spend millions on us I can't see us lifting the title again, not in my lifetime anyway.

I'm not being pessimistic but being a realist.

During the latter part of rafas rein imo redjock.A great sadness hung over large parts of the club...hicks n gillette,uncertainty...rafa was unhappy, players were unhappy...at that point it was bad and we had men making decisions that whilst fighting for lfc they werent realy interested and when rafa left we all had the right to expect better than hodgson at lfc...then kenny made terrible..realy bad...decisions on his player purchases which realy has made things worse.
So here we are with brendan now and owners reluctant to buy ready made quality.
The decline continues and brendan would do a great job imo if he had the kind of money kenny was given...but it is unfair at this point to expect too much of him.Unfortunatly though for brendan lfc demand he delivers.Time will tell but its 60/40 against him if not more imo.

If rafa was soon unhappy why did he sign 20m contract extension with hicksler?

Benitez wanted control over the transfer budget, player contract negotiations & all transfer fee bargaining. He also wanted control over the club's academy.

Parry at the time opposed such moves but Benitez felt that he was in a strong position and with Hicks clearly the more hands-on of the two owners, he backed the Spaniard who was seemingly getting his own way.

Parry left & Benitez, by stupidly siding with Hicksler in a pact of convenience, was living on borrowed time at LFC, & the rest as say is history....

It is widely acknowledged that parry got keane for 20m when rafa didnt want him hence him not playing him.
Misty makes a good point about moores selling to the americans as being the turning point but lfc had success after that and even at the point of selling up hicks n gillette had bankrolled alot of players so rafa did have money to spend but also rafa sold a few too.
Surely hodgson was a real turning point as rafa left a still good team with a few addittions needed...then kenny has compounded the matter.... all we can do now is see if brendan makes it better or worse still.

Not quite true RM, Rafa wanted BOTH Keane and Barry, and would have preferred Barry over Keane. As it was he got Keane and not Barry.

well if im wrong i will hold my hands up ...but my understanding is that rafa wasnt interested in keane at all but parry went over his head to sign keane as in parry's opinion lfc needed a striker like keane and he thought getting him was good...which rafa was not interested in at all...this is why parry left as he had basicly wasted 20m and gone beyond his remit.
