I'm not convinced that "Greedy Gylfi" could've reproduced the high level of performance that we need, on a continuous basis at LFC, but I am convinced that Buck KNEW very well what his worth was & was NOT prepared to fold on his beliefs-WELL DONE BUCK for not being held to ransom. It's all too apparent tha too often now, LFCl have been made to look like eedjiots in the transfer window by paying over-inflated fees, offering silly wages, & It had to stop. This young fella, Greedy Gylfi hasn't even played at the top level & already he's agent was making way over the top unrealistic wage demands. I don't speak on behalf of everyone but personally, i'm delighted that the club, Buck & FSG have told Greedy Gylfi & his parasite of an agent where to stick it!! Yep, well Done LFC - We're finally being sensible with these arsehole agents!! Don't forget, he did NOTHING at Reading and was surplus to requirements at Hoffenheim, who were still desperate to unload a 'world class' player!? He was punching above his weight at Swansea because he was playing for a contract & IF Buck had wanted Gylfi then he would've caved into his agent's wage demands, but Buck would NOT bow to such foot stamping terms, no, Buck is old school & will not have some greedy kunnt waving his financial wage demands at him 'as if' Gylfi was some kind of 'top draw' player, which he most definetly is NOT!!

Imo it is fsg that blocked a contract...brendan has no funds to buy..unless he sells...simple as that and even then fsg wont be paying the contracts other clubs will so that rules out any good players coming. This will imo be a recurring theme. When fsg talk about unearthing gems with good sell on potential what they realy mean is that brendan will have to trawl the likes of crewe, halifax, ipswich etc to find them. Big blow for brendans plans imo not getting sigurrdson. tbh mycroft what you say about sigurdson at reading is the same for brendan..sacked there and flopped at watford...are we allowed to say this or pretend it didnt happen  |

Think it may have been the London factor in this decision. Both clubs will be in the Europa League, and both clubs could offer similar wages. |

RM, 'IF' Greedy Gylfi was any fooking good do you think he'd be sent out on loan from little Hoffenheim? Remember this is not Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund that we are talking about here mate!! No, it's little Bolton'esque Hoffenheim, who didn't want him!! Greedy Gylfi a player who once he realised he was of interest to other EPL clubs got enchanted with the idea that 'he was better' than what he actually is & colluded with his agent to try & screw silly fat wages out of somebody stupid enough to give it!! No, these kind of deals are a sad indictment of the modern game. Spurs are welcome to Greedy Gylfi, glad to see FSG & Buck are sticking to there guns on this issue, he is NOT proven enough to be making such silly demands. |

Its a well-known fact that many players are attracted to the bright lights and living in the capital Crofty. That's what could have made it the deciding factor, and not everything is to do with money, as I'm sure that either Club would make him a very rich man. He chose to play for a London Team instead of us; good luck to him. |

London's got NOTHING to do with it!! Greedy Gylfi had been shipped out to Wales because he was not wanted at err, what was the name of that club again? Err, oh yeah, Hoffenheim? He scores a few goals at Swansea & then all of a sudden a couple of top PL clubs are wanting you. Yes, i admit, its an agents dream right? F**K OFF GYLFI & HIS AGENT!! Good on FSG for not to being cajoled & stampeded into paying silly money for unproven at the top level goods. We have been bitten, mauled, savaged by the Henderson & Downing fiasco's of only last season & we're sure as hell NOT going down that path again!! There are lots more good young players out there as Buck WILL prove in signing. |

Sigurdsson believes the club will be serious challengers for a 'top-four place' next term. "I enjoyed playing under Brendan and I am grateful for everything he has done for me, but after carefu£ con$ideration, I liked Spurs best," Sigurdsson told Icelandic website mbl.is. =$£$£$£$ |

Maybe he thought that Tottenham were the better outfit with a better manager and with better prospects for the future An objective outsider might be forgiven for these sins. |

think it just shows how far we have fallen to be honest while i dont like players being greedy its just a fact of football right now if you pay better you get better ,lfc are not going to win the prem until we get massive investment or a miracle worker in the transfer market its that simple . |

So which club, LFC or Spurs, has demonstrated the better judgement in the management of the 'Gylfi' issue? LFC have refused to go beyond their honest evaluation of the player's worth. Alternatively, they have shot themselves in the foot by not offering Gylfi the wages his skills demand. Spurs have unearthed their next superstar in the Modric class, and have backed their convictions with money to ensure his signature. Alternatively, they have paid over the odds for a player who won't be able to fill Modric's shoes. (Surely the Croation will leave, no?) Which club made the smart move? |

we have enough midtable players as it is. we need genuine class players. if we cant sign class players, then lets save up until we can 'persuade' them. may as well use what we have. promote sterling/shelvey fulltime (atleast they want to play and have the enthusiasm) and bring j.cole and aquilani back. i doubt our season can be any worse than 8th or can it? |

http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2012/07/its-h...an-rodgers.html Rodgers states why LFC did not sign for LFC and Crofty is right, we were only offering what Swansea was offering at the time, but obviously spurs came in and offered more wages. |

Good news I say. GS is not a good enough player to warrant throwing money at him. Don't get me wrong, he is a very decent player and I wouldn't have been upset to see him sign, but I'm personally happy that we aren't letting ourselves get held up to ransom. Obviously there will be those who will see the negative side and attempt to paint this as a doom and gloom scenario, but they are the type of people who would see the downside in winning the lottery!

The way I read the interview- Rodgers is talking about the market value of the player and not personal demands. He said that he knew the market value of the player and was not going to pay over the odds- shame that he wasnt in charge the last 2 seasons- I doubt we would have seen CHAD at Liverpool. |

BR: Sigurdsson upped wage demand Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson's increased wage demands scuppered his move to Anfield. A deal had been struck with the Iceland international for him to return to Swansea - where he had spent the latter half of last season on loan - but when Rodgers moved to Anfield that move hit the rocks. The Reds then appeared to be in pole position because of the player's relationship with the manager but when discussions began over finances Rodgers discovered the 22-year-old was asking for more money than he had agreed at Swansea. Rodgers did not feel that was justified and, as a result, Sigurdsson signed for Tottenham - because of the club's ambition and quality squad according to the player. "He wasn't playing at Hoffenheim, I brought him to Swansea and he did very well for me there, scoring seven goals in 19 games and was very good," said the Reds boss, who succeeded Kenny Dalglish just over a month ago. "He and I both sat and spoke and believed that playing football was going to be the most important aspect for him. "But obviously it was important financially so we agreed a deal for him to go to Swansea and that was wrapped up. "I then became the Liverpool manager and that then wasn't something that was going to happen at Swansea so he then had a choice of where he wanted to go. "I knew what the market was and I wasn't prepared to pay anything over what I had known was agreed before. "Liverpool would have provided Gylfi with a wonderful opportunity to perform with a manager that he knows and at a club which is a real footballing institution. "But he's decided to go to Tottenham, for whatever reason. "I wish him the best, he's a good kid and there's no ill feeling. We've got other targets and we'll move on." Rodgers is now looking at other targets to bring in this summer but wants players who will fit in with his way of working and the club itself and dovetail with the current squad. "I've got a bunch of wonderful players here," he told liverpoolfc.com. "I'm going to take time to have a look at that. I believe there's one or two areas that I'll need to improve on for sure but overall the core of the group is strong. "But like any manager, you want to add the other pieces that can complete your jigsaw and that's something that we're doing over a period of time. "This window for the summer, you either had to get your business in early or it was going to run over towards the end of the window, just purely because of all the games and holidays and championships and everything that was going on. "We're doing a lot of work off the field in terms of potential players to come in, but it will only be a certain type of player that will fit the model here at Liverpool." Many of his squad have yet to return to pre-season training because of their involvement in summer internationals but those who were back at Melwood this week have already had an introduction to what Rodgers wants to achieve and how he wants to do so. "The last couple of days were really about painting the vision so that people understand what direction we're moving in," said the 39-year-old. "We had a really good meeting with the staff on Tuesday. I just felt it was important from the very first day with the staff they understand how I work, my values and morals on and off the field. "Then obviously for the players it's about what I can do to help them achieve what it is they want to achieve, and let them understand the principles of how I'm going to work and look at the direction which the club is moving in. "They understand where I'm coming from, from day one, which is important. "There's no mystery behind it, they understand the vision and the culture that we're trying to create here. "We can now move forward in confidence and look to work hard and work well." |

What do you mean he's wrong? I for one am looking forward to seeing the changes that Klopp brings in. Obviously our star striker Aguero will be central to any plans of his.
