Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that Sigurdsson was a manure fan? That could also explain why he chose Spurs over us. |

Rodgers – It’s Gylfi’s loss July 5, 2012 (TIA) · Add Comment · In LFC News Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he is “relaxed” about losing out on signing midfielder Glyfi Sigurdsson, and that “Liverpool would have provided Gylfi with a wonderful opportunity to perform with a manager that he knew at a club that is a footballing institution”. Sigurdsson, 22, opted to sign for Tottenham this week after speaking with Rodgers and a move to Liverpool appearing to be a formality at one point. “The Sigurdsson deal collapsed because he was not prepared to bow to the midfielder’s wage demands, understood to be in excess of £40,000 per week”, write The Guardian newspaper. Rodgers explained the situation; “I know what the market was and I was not prepared to pay anything over what I knew had already been agreed before. Liverpool would have provided Gylfi with a wonderful opportunity to perform with a manager that he knew at a club that is a footballing institution. But he has decided to go to Tottenham for whatever reason. I wish him all the best and he is a good kid. There is no ill feeling. We have got other targets and we will move on.” On Sigurddson the player he said; “I am quite relaxed. He did fantastic for me at Swansea last season. I brought him in when he was not playing at Hoffenheim. He was very good for me and scored seven goals in 19 games. We sat down and spoke and we said that playing football was the most important thing but obviously the financial side was important, too. We agreed a deal for Swansea but then I left to become Liverpool manager.” Rodgers has shown great leadership by essentially saying it is the player’s loss at missing a chance to join a “footballing institution” like Liverpool FC.

I doubt it. Siggy would have been a decent signing but there are plenty of players out there who could add just as much and actually want to play for LFC |

We can wait for it but I dont want to say we can wait 20 years. If we sit here in four years I think well have won one title Im pretty sure. No pressure Jurgen! | |

just need to trust buck on this one as he knows the player better than most and didnt want to pay ott money so he obviously doesn't think siggy is worth what spurs were willing to pay . |

What truly went on Baz is all speculation - so let's speculate some more Rodgers is hardly likely to say " I wanted Siggy real bad but FSG just wouldn't provide the money" I hope that wasn't the case but until I see FSH really invest I'll remain sceptical - hey mate we've been here before haven't we????i

Ivan mate - I hope I'm wrong I really do!!! Incidentally in a way I'm going to blame Baz for this - he convinced me last time concerning Hicks and Gillette - now I want to get the drop on him if I can [though I think it might be too late] - by getting out the blocks early!!!!! |

“I know what the market was and I was not prepared to pay anything over what I knew had already been agreed before...." If I read that correctly, it seems to me that the manager was expecting the lad to sign for the same money he'd agreed to sign for at Swansea. If that's the case, how unrealistic is that? I don't see any circumstance under which the lad and his agent would agree to a £50K/week deal at Swansea, then switch to LFC and ask for he same salary. Rodgers' intimate knowledge of his previous deal with Swansea might have hurt our chances of getting the lad. If he knew nothing about Siggy's deal with Swansea he might have been a lil more open to the lad's wage demands, which in today's world were not overly excessive. |
