Liverpool Make £17m Bid for Highly Rated Serie A Attacker

Rodgers Liverpool

Anfield side look to improve attacking options.

Italian source Corriere dello Sport claim that Liverpool are to mount a €22m (£17m) bid for Fiorentina attacker Steven Jovetic as Brendan Rodgers looks to improve the Merseyside club’s threadbare attacking options.

Liverpool only managed 47 goals in Premier League action last term and had to rely heavily on Uruguayan international Luis Suarez both as the creator and goal-scorer whilst £35m man Andy Carroll struggled to make an impact. Rodgers failed in his attempt to land Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson, who instead opted to sign for Tottenham, but the Northen Irish boss now has his eyes set on Montenegrin Jovetic.

22 year old Jovetic has improved year on year over the course of his four seasons in Florence and last term, in a more advanced second striker role, the former Partizan Belgrade man notched up an impressive 14 goals from 27 appearances for Serie A side Fiorentina.

Dubbed early on his career as the ‘Next Roberto Baggio’ at times Jovetic has struggled to make an impact but has matured over the past year into a more effective attacking weapon that has led to interest from a number of sides, both in Italy, but also in the Premier League.

As well as Liverpool, Chelsea are also said to be interested in Jovetic and Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella may struggle to retain the services of the young attacker, especially if bids of this size are forthcoming.
